Abstract: This essay is a bibliographical-theoretical research that focuses on understanding the reasons and the conditions necessary for the development of the reading ability since infancy and its relation to the child’s development. Thus, it aims at comprehending the process of literacy learning in teaching and in learning the ability to read since infancy. The objectives and methodology meant to understand the relationship between written language, reading and the development of early readers in their relation to the book. For achieving that, we considered the concept of what a child is, of a child’s development, of the reading ability, and the formation of the early reader as the basis for the discussion, under Historical-Cultural Theory. The results show that when a child is treated as an individual who is beyond classification and categorization—which establishes a child’s development as a linear process defined by nature—to view her as an individual that constructs thoughts, language, imagination, and affect, thus constructing the self, in its life history and in the rela-tions with the other.

The study aimed to evaluate animal performance and quality of milk from Holstein cows during the final third period of lactation fed stargrass silages supplied with inoculant or urea in relation to corn silage. Stargrass silages with enzymatic-bacterial inoculant (80 g of additive/ton of silage), urea supply (7 kg t-1) and corn silage were evaluated. Six Holstein cows with an average body weight of 480 kg were allocated in a double Latin square design (3 x 3). Corn silagepresented the highest values of DM, CP and NDF digestibility when compared to stargrass silages. Supplying Holstein cows with stargrass silages with additive and urea did not promote any effect on production and milk quality. Thus, it can be an alternative in animalproduction systems based on conserved roughage, depending on economical analysis for the replacement of corn silage.

Abstract: this work was carried out to evaluate carcass characteristics, physicochemical and fatty acids compositions of longissimus muscle from feedlot heifers fed cottonseed hulls (csh) and soybean hulls (sbh) as forage, and different energy sources: ground corn (cor), corn germ meal (cgm) or whole rice meal (wrm). twenty-four crossbred heifers (initial body weight of 350 ± 35 kg) were allocated in a completely randomized design into three treatments (diets) and eight replications (animals). heifers were slaughtered after a 24-hour fasting period. carcasses were identified, weighed and stored in a cold chamber at 2oc until following morning in order to perform carcass evaluations. the animals fed the experimental diets did not differ as carcass characteristics, the average values for hot carcass dressing were 51.4%, the loin eye area, 50.8 cm2, and fat thickness, 3.3 mm. the diets also did not influenced the physicochemical composition of longissimus muscle, which showed 73.4% of moisture, 23.0% cp, 48.2 mg/100 g of cholesterol and 4.84 kgf/cm3 of shear force. animals fed with cgm diet showed higher concentrations of cla (0.48%), trans-vaccenic acid (7.69%) and worse omega 6/omega 3 ratio in the longissimus muscle, due to the higher supply of linoleic acid provided by this diet as compared to the others. animals fed wrm diet presented higher concentration of stearic acid in the longissimus muscle, probably as a result of the higher content of oleic acid in this diet.

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the possible allelopathic effects of young and mature leaf extract from of two eucalyptus genetic materials on the physiological performance of millet seeds. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a 5 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement [five concentrations of the extract (0, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) × two genetic materials (1 - Eucalyptus grandis × Eucalyptus urophylla and 2 - Eucalyptus grandis × Eucalyptus camaldulensis) × two maturation stages of leaves (young and mature leaves)] with four replicates, each one with 25 seeds. Seeding was performed on the germitest paper substrate distributed in Petri dishes, moistened with the extract according to the treatments, being allocated in biochemical oxygen demand (B.O.D) adjusted at 25°C and 12 h photoperiod. Percentage, speed index, mean germination time, aerial part and primary root length, and dry matter weight of aerial part and root system of seedlings were evaluated. The leaf extracts of the two eucalyptus clones had all the analyzed variables changed with effect more evident on young leaf extract of the genetic material 1. It can be concluded that the tested genetic materials have a detrimental effect on the physiological performance of millet seeds.

Abstract: this work describes the evaluation of the effect of saponification process in the carotenoid's content of three species of passion fruit. the results indicated the saponification of the extract was necessary to obtain cis-violaxanthin, trans-violaxanthin and β-cryptoxanthin hydrolyzed. these compounds were found in fruits of commercial p. edulis and yellow wild p. edulis. however, the extract saponification did not permitted to obtain free carotenes in fruits of wild purple p. edulis and p. setacea, and to trans-violaxanthin of p. cincinnata, therefore saponification was not indicated in the carotenoid analysis of these three accessions of passion fruit.

Neotropical Ichthyology , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-62252011005000002
Abstract: karyotypic data are presented for four species of fish belonging to the pimelodidae family. these species show a conserved diploid number, 2n = 56 chromosomes, with different karyotypic formulae. the analyzed species showed little amount of heterochromatin located preferentially in the centromeric and telomeric regions of some chromosomes. the nucleolus organizer regions activity (ag-nors) and the chromosomal location of ribosomal genes by fluorescent in situ hybridization (fish), with 18s and 5s probes, showing only one chromosome pair marked bearer of ribosomal genes, the only exception was pimelodus britskii that presented multiple nors and syntenic location of the 18s and 5s probes. non-robertsonian events, as pericentric inversion and nors duplication are requested to explain the karyotype diversification in pseudoplatystoma from the rio paraguay (ms), pimelodus from the rio igua?u (pr), sorubim from the rio paraguay (ms) and steindachneridion from the rio paraíba do sul (sp). the obtained data for the karyotype macrostructure of these species corroborates a conserved pattern observed in pimelodidae. on the other hand, interspecific variations detected by molecular cytogenetics markers made possible cytotaxonomic inferences and differentiation of the species here analyzed.

Ciência e Agrotecnologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-70542009000600030
Abstract: the aim of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of the intrauterine insemination (iui) in swine, considering the conception rate, farrowing rate, litter size (alive born pigs). for the iui, the females had been insemination at 24 and 48 hours after the estrus detection, and the inseminating doses of 500 million, 1 billion, 1.5 billion and 2 billion spermatozoa in 20 ml extender had been used. the procedure of catheter insertion through the cervical canal was successfully performed in 97.9% of the females. the conception rate was 6.3% in the iui. the farrowing rate in iui was 87.2% but the farrowing rate was 100% for the sperm concentration of 500 million. regarding the number of born pigs and alive born pigs observed in females inseminated with iui, no significant difference was observed (p > 0.05). the concentration of 500 x 106 spermatozoa in 20 ml extender in the intrauterine insemination resulted in an optimal reproductive performance.
