Abstract: In this paper we were focused on the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in Hypericum perforatum L and Echinacea purpurea L., Moench plantlets, obtained from seeds irradiated with gamma rays before germination.Total activity as well as specific activity of SOD in Hypericum perforatum L. plantlets shows an inhibition, which becames higher at higher irradiation doses. For Echinacea purpurea L. species, gamma radiation shows a slowly stimulative effect of total activity of SOD for some of the higher doses, but the specific enzyme activity is inhibated for all irradiation doses applyed on non-germinated irradiated seeds.

Abstract: The treatment with gamma radiations has determined the decrease of the mitotic index and the increase of the frequency of division aberration proportionally to the increase of the irradiation dose.

Abstract: The gamma radiations determined to the species of Echinacea purpurea (L) Moench on increase of the quantity of DNA, comparatively to control and to the species of Hypericum perforatum (L.), the decrease of the quantity of DNA (excepting the30 Gy dose witch hand a stimulative effect).

BOOK REVIEW Manfred M. Fischer, Spatial Analysis and Geocomputation, Springer Verlag, 2006
Daniela-Luminita Constantin
Romanian Journal of Regional Science , 2009,
Abstract: The book Spatial Analysis and Geocomputation highlights a new computational-intensive paradigm, that of geocomputation, which is able to contribute to a radical change of the current research practice in spatial analysis. It is based on the latest developments in estimation theory, model selection and testing: from the very beginning is underlined the aim of providing new insights into neural networks, as advanced tools for non-parametrical modelling and spatial interaction modelling. Accordingly, the book is structured into four parts, which address the proposed topic gradually, from the spatial analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to computational intelligence in spatial data analysis, geocomputation in remote sensing environments and, finally, to new frontiers in neural spatial interaction modelling.
Book review Roberta Capello, Regional Economics
Daniela-Luminita Constantin
Romanian Journal of Regional Science , 2007,
Abstract: Regional Economics, published by Routledge, 2006 is authored by Roberta Capello,Professor of Regional and Urban Economics at Politecnico di Milano, one of the mostdistinguished representatives of the world’s new generation of regional scientists. Shehas got her PhD from the Free University of Amsterdam (1993), with Professor PeterNijkamp as scientific supervisor. Professor Roberto Camagni from Politecnico di Milano, another great regional scientist, has also played an important role in her careerdevelopment. She has published a large number of books, articles and has been involvedin many research projects in Italy and abroad. Roberta Capello is an outstanding memberof the regional science international community, with key positions in the councils ofItalian Regional Science Association, European Regional Science Association andRegional Science Association International. At present she is the first ever woman –president of Regional Science Association International.
SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES, REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND NETWORKING: THE EMERGING FRAMEWORK IN ROMANIA
Daniela Luminita Constantin
Romanian Journal of European Affairs (RJEA) , 2002,
Abstract: Networking is a key word in the recent debates on SMEs and regional policies, pointing out the need and advantages of integrating these businesses in a coherent framework, which creates links, relations, exchanges between them and other actors within the region (banks, universities, research institutes, training centres, consulting firms, chambers of commerce, associations of producers, local public administration). This paper aims to explore the main features and significance of the SME sector development for addressing the regional question in Romania during the transition period and to identify the emerging evidence and perspectives of SME territorial networking phenomenon in the specific context induced by the European integration processes. Up to present the idea of creating and supporting regional networks has not been offered the adequate importance in Romania – being only partially, indirectly envisaged, so that this paper proposes some reflections that could be considered by the Romanian regional policy in the forthcoming years, as resulted from the analysis of the international experience and literature devoted to this subject.
RECENT ADVANCES IN TERRITORIAL COMPETITION AND COMPETITIVENESS ANALYSIS
Daniela-Luminita Constantin
Romanian Journal of European Affairs (RJEA) , 2006,
Abstract: This paper addresses the question of territorial competitiveness – at national and regional level – from the perspective of the most important research undertaken in the international arena in order to build-up competitiveness indicators able to reveal the complexity and dynamics of this phenomenon in the contemporary society. A special emphasis is put on studies developed by prestigious organisations and research centres such as World Economic Forum, International Institute for Management Development, Cambridge Econometrics, ECORYS-NEI and so on.
