Brazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-86702010000200003
Abstract: vaccinia virus is responsible for a zoonosis that usually affects cattle and human beings in brazil. the initial clinical signs of the infection are focal red skin areas, fever, and general symptoms similar to those of a cold. then, pustules and ulcerated lesions surrounded by edema and erythema follow, as well as local lymphadenopathy that can last for weeks. cure and healing of the lesions occur over several weeks, leaving a typical scar in the skin of people and animals affected. the infection definitive diagnosis is made through morphological characterization of the virus by use of electron microscopy, followed by pcr for specific viral genes. since 1963, circulating orthopoxviruses in infectious outbreaks in several regions of brazil have been reported. later, the etiological agent of those infections was characterized as samples of vaccinia virus. in addition, the widespread use of those viruses in research laboratories and mass vaccination of militaries have contributed to increase the cases of those infections worldwide. thus, several epidemiological and clinical studies are required, as well as studies of viral immunology, public health, and economic impact, because little is known about those vaccinia virus outbreaks in brazil.

Perten a/Desafei o religiosa: recuperando antigo conceito para entender o catolicismo hoje (Religious belonging /disaffection: recover the old concept in order to understand Catholicism today) - DOI: 10.5752/P.2175-5841.2012v10n28p1230

Palavras-chave: Perten a religiosa. Desafei o religiosa. Censo IBGE 2010. Belo Horizonte. Sociologia religiosa Abstract The article revisits the religious conceptual pair belonging / disaffection, used by the "sociology of religion" in the 1950s and 1960s, to analyze the factors of loss of faithful by Catholic Church, as shown in the 2010 census. The text is based on data from a survey conducted in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte in 2012. Based on this research, the article shows that the decrease of the faithful is not due to conversion but due to the mere transit of Catholicism to another religion. The root of religious disaffection is the loss of faith in the necessity of sacramental mediation of the Church for eternal salvation and in the sacrificial character of the mass. It can be counterbalanced by the family religious belonging, but data signs that they also are weakening. The article concludes that, in the case of Catholicism, the religious affiliation supposes emotional ties, faith and personal commitment of the faithful to the church. When these three factors become weak, the religious disaffection becomes stronger. Keywords: Religious belonging. Religious disaffection. 2010 census. Belo Horizonte. religious sociology
