Abstract: American cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL) is a focal disease whose surveillance and control require complex actions. The present study aimed to apply integrated tools related to entomological surveillance, environmental management, and health education practices in an ACL-endemic area in Rio de Janeiro city, RJ, Brazil. The distribution of the disease, the particular characteristics of the localities, and entomological data were used as additional information about ACL determinants. Environmental management actions were evaluated after health education practices. The frequency of ACL vectors Lutzomyia (N.) intermedia and L. migonei inside and outside houses varied according to environment characteristics, probably influenced by the way of life of the popular groups. In this kind of situation environmental management and community mobilization become essential, as they help both specialists and residents create strategies that can interfere in the dynamics of vector’s population and the contact between man and vectors. 1. Introduction American cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL) is among the six most important infectious diseases and the 15 most neglected diseases of the world [1]. It presents a diversity of transmission cycles that involve different species of parasites, vectors, and hosts in restricted ecological niches [2]. Thus, the indication of control measures must consider the entomological and epidemiological characteristics of each locality. According to Sabroza et al. [3], for each disease and particular situation there are environmental and behavioral factors related to the production of endemic or epidemic processes. To explain these factors, Sabroza et al. [3, page 216] used the concept of conditions receptivity, defined as the “set of environmental, social and behavioral characteristics that allow the reproduction of the parasites and its maintenance in the communities.” The city of Rio de Janeiro presents many areas where these conditions are met, mainly because of human occupation of hillsides, which modifies the landscape and favors the installation of ACL transmission cycles. The number of cases in the city has been increasing since the 1980s, with the west zone presenting the highest indices, more specifically the region of Jacarepaguá [4]. Most of the cases in the study area (Campus FIOCRUZ da Mata Atlantica - CFMA, Rio de Janeiro) are related to the occupation of hillsides in Maci?o da Pedra Branca, an Atlantic Forest area. The present study aimed to discuss an experience on ACL surveillance based on integrated tools related to entomological

Abstract: this paper aims to analyze the relevance of business games as a subject on the curriculum of under-graduate business schools in brazil. the literature review demonstrates that the application of business games has potential to train managers, however, this research identifies some misunderstandings in the application of such games on courses. the teaching plans of business games courses (with some name variations) from 25 brazilian higher education institutions were analyzed by documentary research. the concep of business games subjects uses two approaches: the first deals with games as a teach-learning tool; the second deals with the integration of the diverse content of the specific subject of management. the analysis shows a distortion in the institutional interpretation of games as a tool for management training. there is a mistake in the concept of a subject that has no identity, and about the absence of game application in the development of the subject. this article demonstrates the need for greater institutional support in the acquisition/development of didactic resources and the preparedness of teachers to apply business games.

Abstract: this paper aims to analyze the perception students have about the meaning of business games in the management learning process. business games are as useful in the academic environment as they are in the commercial environment, as they offer simulated experience of business situations and associated decision-making. research that proves the validity of such games as an educational practice able to add knowledge to management training and contribute a meaningful learning experience is still incipient. thus, this research was undertaken with 72 students from undergraduate and specialization courses in management and related areas who have taken part in business games. the collected data was analyzed, qualitatively and quantitatively, using the collective subject speech (css) method, developed by lefevre and lefevre (2003, 2005). what emerged is that the meaning of the business games for the students is related to its contributions to the management learning process. some factors were identified as the main contributions: (a) the aid in developing decision-making skills, an integral characteristic of management roles; (b) the simulated experience of business activities; (c) the development of interpersonal abilities for teamwork; and (d) the application of knowledge acquired during management courses.

Abstract: RACIONAL: Os tumores neuroendócrinos (TNEs) s o raros e compreendem apenas 0,49% de todas as neoplasias malignas. A maioria acomete o trato gastrointestinal. ----- Business Games as Curriculum Component: analysis of their use in teaching ----- ABSTRACT ----- This paper aims to analyze the relevance of Business Games as a subject on the curriculum of under-graduate business schools in Brazil. Arquivos de Gastroenterologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-28032009000300014
Abstract: context: treatment of hepatorenal syndrome type 1 (hrs-1) with splancnic vasoconstrictors and high-dose albumin has been associated with reversal of renal failure in approximately 60% to 80% of the cases in pilot or uncontrolled studies. objective: to evaluate the results of treatment of hrs-1 with terlipressin and high-dose albumin. methods: all patients with hrs-1 that underwent treatment with terlipressin and high-dose albumin at our unit were retrospectively reviewed. outcomes including reversal of renal failure and death were recorded and compared to baseline clinical and laboratory parameters. results: seven subjects (median age 64 [47-69] years, 5 males) with median child-pugh and meld scores of 12 [10-15] and 22 [17-38], respectively, hospitalized with decompensated chronic liver disease secondary to tense ascitis and infections, who exhibited criteria for hrs-1, were submitted to therapy with terlipressin and high-dose albumin according to a predefined standard protocol. baseline creatinine levels were 2.9 [2.3-4.0] mg/ml. none of the patients achieved reversal of hrs-1 and five subjects died on-treatment due to sudden-death (n = 1), multiple organ dysfunction associated with end-stage liver failure (n = 2) and sepsis (n = 2). conclusions: treatment of hrs-1 with terlipressin and high-dose albumin was not associated with reversal of renal failure, but most of the treated subjects had severe end-stage liver disease with high meld scores as well as high baseline creatinine values, parameters previously associated with bad outcomes.
Political economy of preferential trade agreement: the case of bilateral asymmetric negotiation
Motta, Daniel Augusto;
Revista de Economia Política , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31572007000200003
Abstract: the purpose of this paper is to analyse the political economy of preferential trade agreements based on a sequential non-cooperative stackelberg political game between a large economy and a small one, in which the political dispute of rival lobby groups defines the unilateral stance of both governments in the first stage; and the stackelberg "coalition-proof" equilibrium defines the free trade agreement format in the second stage. finally, a few modifications in the initial game structure are discussed in order to enhance the small economy's negotiation power. the political economy model is applied to ftaa case.
