Abstract: background: oculocardiac reflex is a very well-known phenomenon in the ophthalmologic surgery and since its discovery oculists and anesthesiologists consider it as a significant intraoperative problem, they describe dysrhythmia that caused morbidity and death. objective: to carry out a revision on anesthetic considerations in the face of oculocardiac reflex. method: a bibliographical revision on the topic, in which is approached anatomy, physiology, anesthetic particularities and treatment once it is presented. conclusions: the exhaustive knowledge of the occurrence of oculocardiac reflex caused benefit to patients underwent to the ophthalmologic surgery.

Abstract: introduction: an appropriate anesthetic behavior in ophthalmic surgery may to contribute to a successful procedure, thus, it is necessary that anesthesiologists related to this field bear in mind the danger of the oculocardiac reflex appearance and its consequences. objective: to identify the appearance of the above mentioned reflex in ophthalmic surgery of the squint and to avoid the occurrence of cardiorespiratory arrest. material and methods: an analytical, longitudinal and prospective study was conducted between may, 2008 and april, 2009 to study 45 patients operated on due to squint in the ophthalmology center of "manuel ascunce domenech" of camagüey. results: it was possible to demonstrate that this type of reflex may to appear indiscriminately of anesthetic method used (general, endotracheal or peribulbar). in study patients there was not this type of reflex when a combination of ketamine-halothane as anesthetic agents and ketamine-isoflorane in general endotracheal anesthesia. oculo-cardiac reflex stimulation isn't more frequent with the management of a specific muscle, but that the strength and the type of stimulus appear to influence in its incidence. stopping of muscular stimulus and administration of intravenous atropine was the more effectiveness treatment when the reflex was present. conclusions: it is essential that anesthesiologists know the distinctive features that may to trigger the oculocardiac reflex avoiding a fatal outcome.

Abstract: the macular degeneration related to age is one of the blindness causes in patients older than 60 years. it is characterized for a number of symptoms as the decrease of vision, metamorphopsias, macropsias, micropsias, central scotoma. it is a disease that should be diagnosed on time because can conduct to blindness. it is classified in atrophic or dry and exudative or humid, the humid or exudative is of worst prognosis. with the advance of technology in ophthalmology has managed to stop with new methods of treatment as the photodynamic therapy and the antiangiogenic: macugen, lucentis, avastin, + steroids). this disease still represents a problem of greater health and produces substantial blindness. for all the previous things was decided to perform the present bibliographical review.

Abstract: The study aims at examining the meaning of Social Studies, nature and its role towards advancement of tradomedical education in South-South region of Nigeria. This study sought to address the importance of tradomedical education and some of the strategies used in achieving effective teaching of Social Studies to the citizen for advancement of tradomedical education in South-South region of Nigeria and it also examined the various methods used and services rendered through traditional health care system. It was also realized that the effective teaching of social studies will expose the citizens to the environment and its benefits (herbal cure) to the citizens.

Abstract: from september 2007 to may 2008, an educational intervention was carried out to modify the concepts about sexuality and improve quality of life of elderly patients from doctor′s office # 9 of camagüey′s tula aguilera polyclinic. the universe comprised 70 patients; out of them, a sample of 50 was selected and surveyed to know about their levels of knowledge about sexuality. results showed a predominance of age group 60-69, males, and elementary school level; as well as, an inadequate knowledge about sexuality. an educational strategy was designed and later evaluated as effective because the patients’ knowledge about the topic had been modified.

Abstract: En el período septiembre 2007 a mayo 2008, se realizó una intervención educativa con el objetivo de modificar las concepciones sobre la sexualidad y contribuir a lograr calidad de vida en adultos mayores pertenecientes al consultorio 9 de la Policlínica Tula Aguilera del municipio Camagüey. El universo de estudio estuvo conformado por 70 adultos mayores, de ellos se seleccionó una muestra de 50 a quienes se les aplicó una encuesta sobre el nivel de conocimiento de la sexualidad. Los resultados mostraron predominio de las edades entre 60-69 a os, el sexo masculino y el nivel primario de escolaridad. Se comprobó que los adultos mayores no tenían un adecuado conocimiento sobre la sexualidad. Se dise ó una estrategia educativa, que posteriormente se evaluó de eficaz al ser modificados los conocimientos de los adultos mayores sobre la temática. Abstract: the university considered as a generating-knowledge center in the teaching process at undergraduate and postgraduate studies carries out extramural research. this paper assesses the evolution of the academic thinking about housing, based on theoretical and methodological approaches used at havana school of architecture during the last thirty years. the theoretical and empirical research results show that the university has always been involved in the solution of the housing problem; allow to assess the evolution of thinking in relation to the international trends, confirm the leading role of the university at all times, and demonstrate the slowness in the application of the new knowledge to the social practice.

Abstract: some functions of the abstract of a scientific research article were presented in this paper, together with the most frequent problems found. likewise, some historical data on the origin, concept, and types of abstract were provided as well as 15 practical recommendations for its writing. on the basis of these recommendations, a working outline divided into four moments is suggested, with a view to attaining step by step a good abstract, that is to say, a well-written abstract with a content that matches the article. an abstract having these conditions can help to create favourable primary opinions in directors, arbiters, editors and readers about the article, otherwise would cause an unfavorable opinion. it may be stated that the future of a research article depends largely on the quality of its abstract.
MEDIO SIGLO DE VIVIENDA SOCIAL EN CUBA

Abstract: 2010 will he the 100th birthday of the first working-class neighborhood planned and built in cuba. since 1959, cuban housing is known for its general and uniform standards influenced by early xxth century european mass social housing. in contrast to the rest of developing countries, housing is still a responsibility of the state. the present article offers an outlook of the evolution and trends of cuban social housing throughout the second part of the xxth century. lts beginning, in the 60s, was characterized by the search for appropriate technologies and new ways of expression for the mass social housing of a developing and revolutionary country. also, the government tried to "eradicate" the precarious housing condition and the differences between urban and rural areas. from the 70s, in order to meet massive demands, cuban housing centred its efforts on the high-tech prefabricated system. in the 80s, conservation of traditional urban centers was promoted and the crisis of the 90s forced cuba to definitely quit heavy industrialization and search for "alternative" solutions. the current debate on the topic closes the article.
Social Studies Education in the 21st Century, a Tool for Fighting Corruption in Nigeria

Abstract: This paper attempts to examine the bases of social studies in the 21st century focusing on the concepts of objectives of social studies education, goals of social studies education. It also emphasize the social relevance of social studies education in which case it addresses the social needs, social realities and social aspiration of Nigerians. The thrust of the paper is that corruption and indiscipline exemplified in social and political vices constitute obstacles for integrated national development, and that social studies as a subject has a role to play in charting the way forward for a disciplined and better society. Specifically, it deals on the social studies as a tool for fighting corruption in Nigeria which is as a result of identified as value conflict, destabilized and failing nation because of numerous political and social vices prevalent in the system. Conclusively, an individual exposed to social studies content is giving a positive orientation which will ultimately prepare him or her to function effectively in the society. Social studies would checkmate the rising spate of corruption in our society. Social studies is an indispensable veritable tools for fighting corruption in Nigeria.
