Under vs. over Primary Control Discrepancies and Their Relationships to Well-Being in a Primary Control Culture  [PDF]
Orrie Dan
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2011.25068
Abstract: This study investigates the relationship between “under” and “over” cultural self discrepancy, and the individual’s well-being. “Under cultural self discrepancy” occurs when the individual expects that s/he would fail to behave in specific situations in accordance with the culture norms. In “over cultural self discrepancy” the individual expects to over react and exaggerate the expected behavior. The hypothesis of this paper is that in a culture that emphasizes primary control, “under cultural discrepancy” would be negatively correlated with well being, while “over cultural discrepancy” would not be. To that end, four equstionnaires were adiminstered to130 first-year, Israeli Psychology undergraduates: The Primary and Secondary Control Dilemmas Questionnaire; Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale; Depressive Experiences Questionnaire; and Trait Anxiety Inventory. The results clearly demonstrate that “under primary control self discrepancy” correlates negatively with well being, while “over primary control self discrepancy” does not. Since Israeli culture emphasizes primary control, these results support the hypothesis that “under cultural self discrepancy” is negatively correlated with well being, while “over cultural self discrepancy” is not in such cultures.

Journal of Software Engineering and Applications (JSEA) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jsea.2011.412081
Abstract: At first, the core ideology, advantage and principle of Software Testing Automation Framework (STAF) are presented in this paper. Several automated testing frameworks are summarized and analyzed. In addition, date driven automation test framework is given more attention. Test script is the important composing part of software test automation. Then this paper introduces several technologies of script along with their characteristics. Every technology applies to different places. Moreover, an automated test system with an automated test script language XML which is implemented to solve the problems in current automatic testing solutions. The design and implantation of the test script automation framework based on apache ant is put forward. The proposed key technology details of framework are also introduced. We take the automation test methodology of database connectivity operations by ODBC data source as example for validation, using auto test script as the key technology. Finally, the results demonstrate that it can best increase software test effectiveness and reduce workloads as well as save more efforts.

Creative Education (CE) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2012.34079
Abstract: This paper examines Chinese residents’ experience in learning English in the 3-D virtual world of Second Life (SL). With an introduction to the current English as a Second Language (ESL) education in China, ESL students’ demand for practice, I analyzed an online BBS created and maintained by Chinese SL residents and conducted interviews in SL to argue that there is an urgent need among Chinese ESL learners to practice their English with native English speakers and SL can function as a platform to allow Chinese ESL learners practice with residents from all over the world with help and support provided by their online learning communities such as BBS or SL friends groups.
The origin of biological information and programmed protein synthesis  [PDF]
Dan Liu
American Journal of Molecular Biology (AJMB) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajmb.2013.34027
Abstract: Biological information is one of the most important characteristics of life, and it enables life to evolve to higher complexity and adapt to the environment by mutation and natural selection. However, the origin of this information recording and retrieval system remains a mystery. To understand the origin of biological information will lead us to one step closer to understand the origin of life on earth. Biological information is encoded in DNA and translated into protein by the ribosome in all free living organisms. The information has to be translated into proteins to carry out its biological functions, so the evolution of the ribosome must be integrated with the development of biological information. In this article, I propose that the small ribosomal subunit evolved from a ribozyme that acted as an RNA helicase in the ancient RNA world, and the involvement of tRNAs and the large ribosomal subunit evolved to enhance the helicase activity and to overcome the higher energy require-ment for high GC content RNA helices. This process could have developed as a primitive recording mechanism: since Watson-Crick base paring is a natural property of RNA, each time the proto-small ribosomal subunit came to a particular GC-rich helix, tRNA-like molecules and the proto-large ribosomal subunit would have to be engaged to generate the helicase activity, and consequently the same polypeptide would be synthesized as a by-product. Simple recorded messages then evolved into useful biological information through continuous mutation and natu-ral selection. This hypothesis provides logical and incremental steps for the development of programmed protein synthesis. I also argue that the helicase activity is preserved in the modern ribosome and that from our knowledge of the ribosome, and we can deduce the possible mechanisms of the helicase activity.
Analytic Solutions to Optimal Control Problems with Constraints  [PDF]
Dan Wu
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/am.2015.614205
Abstract: In this paper, the analytic solutions to constrained optimal control problems are considered. A novel approach based on canonical duality theory is developed to derive the analytic solution of this problem by reformulating a constrained optimal control problem into a global optimization problem. A differential flow is presented to deduce some optimality conditions for solving global optimizations, which can be considered as an extension and a supplement of the previous results in canonical duality theory. Some examples are given to illustrate the applicability of our results.
Establishment of Quick Testing Efficiency Evaluation Model and Analysis of Related Factors  [PDF]
Dan Li
Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2016.713113
Abstract: Objective: “Rapid screening, targeted sampling, objective test” is an efficient test model. The factors affecting the efficiency include false screening rate, missing rate and rapid screening time. However, only missing rate and accuracy have been used as technical requirements to evaluate rapid screening method. In this study, efficiency was regarded as evaluation index of quick testing method. Method: The evaluation model of quick testing efficiency was established by comparing time of routine testing and quick testing. By simulation calculation, the effect factors such as rapid screening time, false screening rate, missing rate and defective rate were analyzed. Results: The calculation formula of efficiency was derived. Simulation results showed that the lower defective rate, the higher efficiency; the smaller missing rate, false screening rate, or screening time, the higher efficiency and the degree of improving efficiency is related to defective rate; sometimes, the screening time is the most important factor affecting the efficiency. In certain cases, if the false screening rate or missing rate is 50%, the efficiency can be increased by more than 10 times. Conclusions: Taken together, this study highlighted a role of efficiency which functioned as an index to evaluate rapid screening. Quick testing efficiency evaluation model can be used for the calculation efficiency, and can be used to analysis the relationship between efficiency and the influence factors, and can provide the theoretical foundation for rapid screening method development and evaluation.

Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2017.51006
Abstract: University is one of the most important innovation subjects in innovation clusters and also the headstream of innovation. Theoretical research and practice indicate that the functions of universities in an innovation cluster cannot be ignored. With a series of policies to improve innovation ability of the universities in China approved, how to stimulate universities to play their role in innovation clusters becomes a research hotspot both in academic circles and policy community. However, its primary premise is to make clear the real role that universities play in an innovation cluster. Therefore, we put forward the functions of universities in an innovation cluster including knowledge production, knowledge propagation and innovation culture advocate, then study the realization mechanism of the functions in order to guide universities to play the role in an innovation cluster better.
A Replenishment Model of Dual Sales Channels with Lateral Transshipment Problem Considering Consumer Behavior  [PDF]
Dan Huang
iBusiness (IB) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ib.2017.94008
Abstract: We study a replenishment model that the retailer shares his leftovers on his direct online sales channel and traditional retail channel. When one of the sales channels is out of stock and another has leftovers, the latter shares its leftovers with the former. Commonly, there is competition between two channels. Therefore, we take the consumers’ behavior including retailer inconvenience cost of traditional retail channel, and risks and delivery lead time of direct online sales channel into consideration. Then, we use the function of consumer utility to measure the Demand distribution function. Furthermore, the optimal replenishment models in independent decision-making and in lateral transshipment are established separately. Then the results of two models are compared by order quantity and retailer’s profit. What’s more, it is found that lateral transshipment between dual sales channel inventory can reduce the order quantity and increase the retailer’s profit when the prices and demand distribution satisfy certain conditions. Finally, the numerical analysis of the model is carried out. The validity of the research results is proved by examples.
Decay Rates of the Compressible Hall-MHD Equations for Quantum Plasmas  [PDF]
Dan Jin
Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics (JAMP) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jamp.2018.611203
Abstract: In this paper, we consider the global existence and decay rates of strong solutions to the three-dimensional compressible quantum Hall-magneto-hydrodynamics equations. By combing the Lp-Lq estimates for the linearized equations and a standard energy method, the global existence and its convergence rates are obtained in various norms for the solution to the equilibrium state in the whole space when the initial perturbation of the stationary solution is small in some Sobolev norms. More precisely, the decay rates in time of the solution and its first order derivatives in L2-norm are obtained when the L1-norm of the perturbation is bounded.
