The influence of seasonal factor on chemical dissolving of limestone variability in Svrlji ka valley
Manojlovi? Predrag,Damnjanovi?-RakiMilica
Glasnik Srpskog Geografskog Dru?tva , 2006, DOI: 10.2298/gsgd0602029m
Abstract: How big is the influence of climatic factor on the intensity of rocks dissolving (limestone) in Serbia? Previous investigations of rivers water chemistry changes have shown it insignificance. This investigation shows significant collective influence of climatic elements contained in "seasonal factor".
Waveguide e-plane all-metal inserted diplexer
RakiMilica,Jokanovi? Branka,Budimir ?.
Serbian Journal of Electrical Engineering , 2004, DOI: 10.2298/sjee0403079r
Abstract: This paper presents the procedure for designing a wave guide E-plane diplexer for Ku band with inserted metal septa. The diplexer is designed with filters of the fifth order and with T-junction in E-plane for the purpose of easier integration with microwave transceiver. The aim of this work is to master the design of a diplexer that should obtain 60 dB insulation between receiver and transmitter of a radio link and that will not need to be adjusted in serial production.

The positioning of Serbia
Raki? Beba,Raki? Mira
Zbornik Matice Srpske za Drustvene Nauke , 2007, DOI: 10.2298/zmsdn0723123r
Abstract: The need to attract tourists, companies (foreign direct investment) and talented people and to find markets for their exports requires that countries adopt strategic marketing management tools and conscious positioning. Serbia’s successful economic development requires radical reforms on multiple fronts simultaneously. The whole basis of Serbia’s national competitiveness must be transformed. This requires changing organizations’ marketing strategies as well as new requirements for the Serbia’s business environment. Improving marketing activities of our enterprises require: the demise of marketing intuition and the rise of marketing science, the rise of holistic marketing the rise of partner relationship marketing and customer relationship marketing, discovering new points of differentiation and positioning on the base of consumption chain analysis, customer-centered brand management creating and sustaining a market-driven organization through a successful change program.

Abstract: Achieving an effective treatment of cancer is difficult, particularly when resistance to conventional chemotherapy is developed. P-glycoprotein (P-gp) activity governs multi-drug resistance (MDR) development in different cancer cell types. Identification of anti-cancer agents with the potential to kill cancer cells and at the same time inhibit MDR is important to intensify the search for novel therapeutic approaches. We examined the effects of sulfinosine (SF), a quite unexplored purine nucleoside analog, in MDR (P-gp over-expressing) non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and glioblastoma cell lines (NCI-H460/R and U87-TxR, respectively). SF showed the same efficacy against MDR cancer cell lines and their sensitive counterparts. However, it was non-toxic for normal human keratinocytes (HaCaT). SF induced caspase-dependent apoptotic cell death and autophagy in MDR cancer cells. After SF application, reactive oxygen species (ROS) were generated and glutathione (GSH) concentration was decreased. The expression of key enzyme for GSH synthesis, gamma Glutamyl-cysteine-synthetase (γGCS) was decreased as well as the expression of gst-π mRNA. Consequently, SF significantly decreased the expression of hif-1α, mdr1 and vegf mRNAs even in hypoxic conditions. SF caused the inhibition of P-gp (coded by mdr1) expression and activity. The accumulation of standard chemotherapeutic agent – doxorubicin (DOX) was induced by SF in concentration- and time-dependent manner. The best effect of SF was obtained after 72 h when it attained the effect of known P-gp inhibitors (Dex-verapamil and tariquidar). Accordingly, SF sensitized the resistant cancer cells to DOX in subsequent treatment. Furthermore, SF decreased the experssion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on mRNA and protein level and modulated its secretion. In conclusion, the effects on P-gp (implicated in pharmacokinetics and MDR), GSH (implicated in detoxification) and VEGF (implicated in tumor-angiogenesis and progression) qualify SF as multi-potent anti-cancer agent, which use must be considered, in particular for resistant malignancies.
On metaphorical designation of humans, animals, plants and things in Serbian and English language

Ju?noslovenski Filolog , 2004, DOI: 10.2298/jfi0460147r
Abstract: In this paper I examine compound names of plants, animals, human beings and other things in which at least one nominal component designates a part of the body or clothes, or some basic elements of houshold in Serbian and English. The object of my analysis are complex derivatives of the type (adjective noun) + suffix in Serbian and componds of the type noun's + noun, noun + noun and adjective + noun in English. I try to show that there is a difference in metaphorical designation of human beings and other living creatures and things by such compound nouns. My thesis is that the metathorical designation of human beings by such compounds is based on the symbolic meaning of some words and expressions while the designation of other things and beings relies on noticed similarity. In Serbian language such designation is provided by comples derivatives praznoglavac 'empty-headed person', tupoglavac 'dullard' debolokoiac 'callos person', golobradac 'young, inexperienced person' utokljunac 'tledling' (fig), in English chicken liver, beetle brain birdbrain, bonehead, butterfingers, bigwig, blackleg, blue blood bluestocking, eat's paw, deadhead,fat-guts,fathead, goldbrick (kol) hardhat, hardhead, greenhorn, redcoat (ist), redneck (sl), thickhead, etc. Polisemous compounds like eat's paw lend support for this thesis because their designation of human beings is based on symbolic meaning of some words or expressions. I hypothesize that the direction and extend of the possible metaphorization of names may be accounted for by the following hierarchy (11) people - animals - plants - meterial things. Such hierarchy is well supported by the observations of Lakoff (1987) and Taylor (1995) about the role of human body in early experience and perception ofthe reality. Different restrictions which may be imposed in the hierarchy (11) should be the matter of further study, some of which have been noted on this paper. The compounds of this type denoting people have metaphorically meaning conected with some pejorative uses. These compounds refer to some psychological or characteral features, and show that for the classification of people such features are much more important than physical properties. While the animals and plants are classified according to some charecteristics of their body parts, people are usually classified according to psychollogical characteristics or their social functions. I have also noted a difference in structure between compounds designation animals and those designating plants and other things. The designation of animals relies more on metonymy, and th

From biology to ethics: The future of evolution as humanity's path to justice
Raki? Vojin
Theoria, Beograd , 2009, DOI: 10.2298/theo0903037r
Abstract: The future evolution of the human might not be marked so much by his physical change, as by his moral development. I will offer three arguments in favor of the thesis that humanity is gradually moving in the direction of superior moral relations, i.e. the configuration of individuals and societies with an expanded inclination toward justice. The first argument is Kant's, the second Doyle's (which is in fact an indirect argument), while the third one is my own contribution to the discussion. All three arguments I will not only present, but also explain how they relate to each other. I will conclude that the thesis about the gradual development of humanity in the direction of social relations with a stronger foundation in justice can be cogently substantiated.
Is armageddon the alternative to moral enhancement?
Raki? Vojin
Theoria, Beograd , 2012, DOI: 10.2298/theo1203073r
Abstract: Eudaimonic agents have to become dominant in humanity if it is to seriously diminish the probability of its self-annihilation. In order for this to happen, humanity ought to be morally enhanced. It will be argued that moral and cognitive enhancement have to be combined in such a way that all cognitive bio-enhancement leads to moral enhancement.
