Alimentary handling in the larviculture of mandi-pintado (“Pimelodus britskii”) Manejo alimentar na larvicultura do mandi-pintado ("Pimelodus britskii")

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the growth rate and survival of mandi-pintado (Pimelodus britskii) larvae submitted to different feeding management. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replicates in a tank with 30 liters of water, each containing 30 larvae (0.032 ± 0.0048g and 8.22 ± 0.40mm). The treatments consisted of larvae fed with artemia; diet; artemia + diet; and artemia for two weeks + diet. Fish fed with artemia + diet showed greater weight and length, when compared to other feeding managements. The fish fed only with diet showed the worst performance. For the mandi-pintado larval rearing, the use of artemia combined with diet provides the best results for survival and growth. O presente trabalho foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar a taxa de crescimento e sobrevivência de larvas de mandi-pintado (Pimelodus britskii) submetidas a diferentes manejos alimentares. O experimento foi realizado em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro tratamentos e cinco repeti es, em aquários com 30 litros de água, cada um com 30 larvas (0,032 ± 0,0048g e 8,22 ± 0,40mm). Os tratamentos consistiram em larvas alimentadas com artemia; ra o; artemia + ra o e artemia por duas semanas + ra o. Os peixes alimentados com artemia + ra o apresentaram maior peso e comprimento final, quando comparados aos demais manejos alimentares. Os peixes alimentados apenas por ra o apresentaram o pior desempenho. Para a larvicultura do mandi-pintado, a utiliza o de artemia combinada com ra o proporciona os melhores resultados de sobrevivência e crescimento.
Eugenol as anesthetic for silver catfish (Rhamdia voulezi) with different weight Eugenol como anestésico para jundiá (Rhamdia voulezi) em diferentes pesos

Abstract: The study aimed to find the better concentration of eugenol for anesthesia of silver catfish (Rhamdia voulezi) with different weights. Were used 240 catfish distributed in randomized blocks in factorial scheme (5x4) total 20 treatments, in others words, five different weights: 32,5; 75; 150; 300 e 450g and four eugenol concentrations: 50, 75, 100 e 125 mg.l-1. For each treatment were used 12 fish randomly chosen and exposed individually for each concentration. After of anesthesia the fish were transferred for net-cage with 0,7m3, being fed and observed by 96 hours for monitoring of mortality. The eugenol was efficient for anesthesia in silver catfish all concentrations and weights and after of 96 hours no mortality have been verified. At these experimental conditions the best concentration of eugenol for anesthetic inducing and recuperation of silver catfish with weight varying from 32,5 and 450 g is 50 mg.l-1. O presente estudo teve como objetivo encontrar a melhor dose de eugenol para a anestesia do jundiá (Rhamdia voulezi) em diferentes classes de peso. Foram utilizados 240 jundiás distribuídos em delineamento experimental em blocos em esquema fatorial (5 x 4) totalizando 20 tratamentos, ou seja, cinco diferentes classes de peso: 32,5; 75; 150; 300 e 450g e quatro concentra es de eugenol (50, 75, 100 e 125 mg.l-1). Para cada tratamento foram utilizados 12 peixes escolhidos aleatoriamente (n = 12) e expostos individualmente para cada concentra o. Após o procedimento de anestesia os peixes foram transferidos para tanques-rede com 0,7m3, onde receberam alimenta o e ficaram em observa o durante 96 horas para o monitoramento da mortalidade. O eugenol foi eficiente para a anestesia em jundiás nas diferentes concentra es analisadas e nos distintos pesos, e após 96 horas de acompanhamento à recupera o anestésica, n o foram verificadas mortalidades dos animais. Nas condi es deste experimento a melhor concentra o de eugenol para indu o e recupera o anestésica em jundiás com peso variando de 32,5 a 450 g é de 50 mg.l-1.
DIEL AND VERTICAL DYNAMIC OF LIMNOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS IN FISH REARING NET-CAGES ENVIROMENT DIN MICA NICTIMERAL E VERTICAL DAS CARACTERíSTICAS LIMNOLóGICAS EM AMBIENTE DE CRIA O DE PEIXES EM TANQUES-REDE

Abstract: This study aimed to verify the diel and vertical dynamic characteristics in limnological environment for rearing native fish in net-cage at the reservoir of Itaipu Binacional. The parameters evaluated were water temperature, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, pH, phosphorus, nitrite and ammonia. It was found that there was diel variation for all parameters, except for ammonia and phosphorus. But the variables are in the recommended limits for aquaculture, with the exception of dissolved oxygen that showed critical rates at night. For the vertical distribution concentrations of physical and chemical parameters of water did not exceed the limit established by CONAMA Resolution 357/05 for fish rearing, however, there was vertical variation for nitrite and phosphorus. KEY WORDS: Aquaculture, intensive culture, limnology, water quality. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo verificar a dinamica nictimeral e vertical das características limnológicas em ambiente de cria o de peixes nativos em tanques-rede no reservatório da Itaipu Binacional. Os parametros avaliados foram temperatura da água, oxigênio dissolvido, condutividade elétrica, pH, fósforo total, nitrito e am nia. Verificou-se que ocorreu varia o nictimeral para todos os parametros, exceto para am nia e fósforo total. Entretanto, as variáveis est o dentro dos limites recomendados para a aquicultura, com exce o do oxigênio dissolvido, que apresentou valores críticos à noite. Para a distribui o vertical, as concentra es dos parametros físicos e químicos da água n o ultrapassaram o limite estabelecido pela resolu o do CONAMA 357/05 para cria o de peixes. No entanto, houve varia o vertical para nitrito e fósforo. PALAVRAS-CHAVES: Aquicultura, cultivo intensivo, limnologia, qualidade de água.

Abstract: A considerable problem in the catfish larvae rearing is related to the first feeding. This study aimed to determine the larvae growth and the survival of silver catfish submitted to feeding with Artemia sp. in different time periods. The study was conducted in the Aquaculture Laboratory of the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná, with four treatments and five replications, constituted by feeding with Artemia sp. in 5, 10, 15 and 20 days, and after each period of time, by its replacement by ration. We used 200 larvae distributed into 20 aquariums, soon after the eggs hatched. The larvae were fed 4 times a day until apparent satiation for 30 days. The Artemia sp. feeding for 15 days provided the best results on weight gain, final length and survival.

Abstract: Even though tilapia is of great economic interest, data on the nutritional requirements of amino acids during commercial breeding stages are scarce. So, the aim of this study was to analyse the performance and muscular growth of Nile tilapia larvae (Oreochromis niloticus) fed diets containing increasing concentrations of phenylalanine. The experiment took place at the Laboratory of Aquaculture of the Grupo de Estudos de Manejo na Aquicultura (GEMAq) of the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná (Unioeste), Toledo, PR, Brazil, for 30 days. A total of 450 larvae, with mean initial length of 1.5 ± 0.14 cm and mean initial weight of 0.04 ± 0.004 g, were randomly distributed into 6 treatment groups with 5 repetitions (30 tanks). Each experimental unit consisted of a 30 L tank containing 15 larvae. Six diets were formulated with increasing concentrations of phenylalanine (1.09, 1.24, 1.39, 1.54, 1.69 and 1.84%) and offered four times a day until apparent satiation. By the end of the experimental period, the following productivity indexes were analysed: length, weight, survival, weight gain, uniformity, feed conversion, specific growth rate and protein efficiency ratio. Three fish from each tank were collected for muscular growth analysis and the frequency of small (<20 μm in diameter) and large (20 - 50 μm) muscle fibres recorded. Small fibres corresponded to 60% - 90% of the fibres observed, suggesting that muscular growth at this stage occurred mainly by hyperplasia. No significant difference (P > 0.05) was observed in the productive performance parameters between the treatment groups. Thus, it can be concluded that the levels of phenylalanine contained in the experimental diets did not influence the performance of Nile tilapia larvae. However, there was more hyperplasia when we put 1.39% of phenylalanine in the diet.

Abstract: total phosphorus contents for feeding silver catfish juveniles reared in net cagesphosphorous is an essential mineral for fishes, because it acts on various metabolic processes. however, high levels may jeopardize the water quality, and its lack could promote deficiency to animals. the aim of this study was to evaluate the productive performance of silver catfish juveniles reared in net cages and fed with diets containing different total phosphorus contents. a total of 600 silver catfish juveniles, with initial weight of 6.88 ± 0.26 g and 9.28 ± 0.99 cm, were randomly distributed in 20 net cages, in a stocking density of 30 fish per cage. a completely randomized design, with four treatments, different total phosphorus contents (0.65%, 0.80%, 0.95%, and 1.10%), and five replicates were used. these contents affected (p < 0,05) the final weight, length, weight gain, specific growth rate, and condition factor. however, the survival rate and feed conversion did not differ (p > 0,05) among treatments. thus, it is possible to recommend the commercial use of 0.80% total phosphorus in diets for silver catfish juveniles, providing a good productive performance and, above all, reducing the pollution caused by those diets.

Abstract: although the organic fish production is a growing practice in the world, in brazil, there are just a few studies about it. this study aimed at evaluating the use of organic wheat, in replacement of organic maize, in the diet of nile tilapia juveniles. a total of 200 juveniles (5.24 ± 0.13 g; 6.91 ± 0.40 cm) were distributed in 20 experimental hapas (0.15 m3 of useful volume), in a concrete water tank with capacity for 25.0 m3 and constant aeration system, in a completely randomized design. five diets containing organic wheat middlings (0.0 g kg-1, 50.0 g kg-1, 100.0 g kg-1, 150.0 g kg-1 and 200,0 g kg-1) were elaborated and feeding took place four times a day (08:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 02:00 p.m. and 05:00 p.m.). final weight, total length, survival rate, daily weight gain, fulton's condition factor, visceral fat, hepatosomatic index, viscerosomatic index and the centesimal composition of fish carcass (moisture, protein, lipid and ash contents) were evaluated. the inclusion levels of organic wheat middlings did not affect the variables analyzed. the organic wheat can be added to the diet of nile tilapia juveniles up to the limit of 200.0 g kg-1, without causing any productive problem.
W/Z + Light Flavor Jets and W/Z + Heavy Flavor Jets at the Tevatron

Abstract: Collider signatures containing bosons and jets are particularly interesting. Recent theoretical effort has been devoted to determining predictions of W/Z + multiple parton production; the high statistics sample of W/Z + jets events collected at the Tevatron is a valuable testbed for probing the validity of these calculations. The final state containing a Z or W boson and one or more b-jets is a promising Higgs search channel at the Tevatron and could be a window to new physics at the LHC. These searches benefit from a deep understanding of the production of W/Z + heavy flavor jets which constitutes a significant background to the more exotic sources of this signature. Herein the latest Tevatron results on these production mechanisms are reviewed with an emphasis on comparison of data results to the latest theoretical models.

Abstract: Studies of the production of W/Z + jets are important for a variety of reasons. W/Z + inclusive jets is a valuable high statistics sample that allows one to probe the validity of predictions from perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (pQCD) at both leading and next-to-leading order. W/Z + heavy flavor jets (those originating from b or c production) is a significant background to top and Higgs at the Tevatron and will play an important role at the LHC as well. Herein the latest Tevatron results on these production mechanisms are reviewed with an emphasis on comparison of data results to the latest theoretical models.

Abstract: In this thesis a rendering system and an accompanying tool chain for Virtual Texturing is presented. Our tools allow to automatically retexture existing geometry in order to apply unique texturing on each face. Furthermore we investigate several techniques that try to minimize visual artifacts in the case that only a small amount of pages can be streamed per frame. We analyze the influence of different heuristics that are responsible for the page selection. Alongside these results we present a measurement method to allow the comparison of our heuristics.
