Algorithms for Chromosome Classification  [PDF]

Automated chromosome classification has been an important pattern recognition problem for decades. In order to im-prove the performance of automated chromosome classification, artificial intelligence and machine learning methods have been widely used in the computer-assisted chromosome detection and classification systems. This paper is focused on these algorithms, especially on artificial neural network (ANN) and wavelet transform algorithms. The principle and the realization of these algorithms are analyzed. Results of these algorithms are compared and discussed.

Research of Segmentation Algorithms for Overlapping Chromosomes  [PDF]

Chromosome segmentation is the most important step in the automatic chromosome analysis system. Since in almost every metaphase image partial touching and overlapping of chromosomes are a common phenomenon, how to separate these chromosomes correctly is a difficult yet vital problem. A number of attempts have been made to deal with this problem. This paper is focused on these attempts. Some algorithms are investigated. The principle and the realization of these algorithms are analyzed. Results of these algorithms are compared and discussed.

After about three years of the sub-prime mortgage crisis, the American Congress passed its new financial supervision bill on July 15, 2010, which is called Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. This act was then singed to be in effect by President Obama on July 21. This act is named as the most serious financial supervision act passed ever since the Great Depression in 1933. This paper systematically reviews and analyzes the background, major content, effect, and historical dimension of the bill, and on this basis, it presents some implications to the financial governance reform in emerging markets, such as the maintenance of a proper level of financial deregulation, the protection of interests of financial product consumers, the cultivation of ethical value and social responsibility of financial executives or government leaders, etc.

Airfoil Trailing Edge Noise Generation and Its Surface Pressure Fluctuation  [PDF]

In the present work, Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of turbulent flows over a NACA 0015 airfoil is performed. The purpose of such numerical study is to relate the aerodynamic surface pressure with the noise generation. The results from LES are validated against detailed surface pressure measurements where the time history pressure data are recorded by the surface pressure microphones. After the flow-field is stabilized, the generated noise from the airfoil Trailing Edge (TE) is predicted using the acoustic analogy solver, where the results from LES are the input. It is found that there is a strong relation between TE noise and the aerodynamic pressure. The results of power spectrum density show that the fluctuation of aerodynamic pressure is responsible for noise generation.

A Novel Hybrid Pan-Sharpen Method Using IHS Transform and Optimization  [PDF]

Abstract: Intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) transform is the most commonly used method for image fusion purpose. Usually, the intensity image is replaced by Panchromatic (PAN) image, or the difference between PAN and intensity image is added to each bands of RGB images. Spatial structure information in the PAN image can be effectively injected into the fused multi-spectral (MS) images using IHS method. However, spectral distortion has become the typical factor deteriorating the quality of fused results. A hybrid image fusion method which integrates IHS and minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) was proposed to mitigate the spectral distortion phenomenon in this study. Firstly, IHS transform was used to derive the intensity image; secondly, the MMSE algorithm was used to fuse the histogram matched PAN image and intensity image; thirdly, optimization calculation was employed to derive the combination coefficients, and the new intensity image could be expressed as the combination of intensity image and PAN image. Fused MS images with high spatial resolution can be generated by inverse IHS transform. In numerical experiments, QuickBird images were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. It was found that the spatial resolution was increased significantly; meanwhile, spectral distortion phenomenon was abated in the fusion results.

Abstract: In recent years, researchers have made an ongoing research into the concept and definition of business English in higher education institutions. There have been quite a number of different ideas, but so far some disagreement still exists. The paper, through review and reflection into these researchers and their ideas, has concluded that the concept and implication of business English in China has been broadened, and business English, as a comprehensive inter-discipline developed from the EGBP in ESP, is now faced with some new development trends such as specialty regulation and degree-awarding flexibility.

Abstract: Stilbene, a kind of phytoalexin, plays an important role in resistance to fungal and bacterial infection in plants. It strongly inhibits the growth of fungi and sprout of spore. Stilbene synthase gene (Vst1) obtained from grapevine has been transferred into common spring wheat Jinghong 5 by using the biolistic transformation method. Five transgenic plants (T0) were obtained from the bombarded 2014 immature embryos. One immune plantlet and 3 plantlets with mid-resistance to powdery mildew were identified from the transgenic plants of T3 generation which came from 2 T0 transgenic plants.
