Clinical Evaluation of Fluido Compact: A New Intravenous Fluid Warmer  [PDF]

Abstract: Unintended peri-operative hypothermia is very common in surgical patients and is associated with adverse outcomes. Perioperative use of forced-air and intravenous fluid warmers is recommended for hypothermia prevention. This study evaluated the ease of use of Fluido Compact, a new fluid warming device, and its ability to help as part of the intraoperative patient temperature management. It was used in 36 patients undergoing scheduled surgery at risk of hypothermia under regional, general or combined anesthesia, of more than one hour duration and with a predicted intravenous fluid administration of at least 1000 ml. The fluid warmer is very easy to set up. The disposable cassette has a very low (3 ml) priming volume and it is easy to handle and to place inside the warming module. Once connected to the main power outlet, it is ready to deliver fluid at target temperature in just a few seconds. Control panel is intuitive, and the one button operation system makes it safe and convenient. The combination of peri-operative patient surface warming with Mistral-Air forced-air warming system and intravenous fluid warming with Fluido Compact, that allowed the administration of IV perfusions at body temperature at the rate needed thus avoiding heat loss, helps to maintain intraoperative core temperature between 36.4°C and 36.8°C. A group of patients undergo a variety of surgical procedures with neuraxial, general or combined epidural-general anesthesia.

Abstract: this study proposes a conceptual distinction between the so called significance axis and the teacher?s conceptions. meanwhile the first relate to the group of subjects, the conceptions are concerned with the subjects? ideas. the axis emerge from lexicometric analysis of the teacher?s discourse, collected by recording their oral discourse in the classroom and by interviewing them. at the end, this study links the concept of significance axis with that of habitus in bourdieu.

La reforma del Estado, en sus aspectos económicos, políticos y administrativos, debe entenderse como una oportunidad para restablecer la gobernabilidad y preservar la democracia en el continente. ABSTRACT: By looking at the Venezuelan experience, the author shows that the decline of the populist political institutions is the main cause of the crisis that Latin America is going through. The reform of the State in its economic, political and administrative aspects must be understood as an opportunity to restore the governance of the system and to preserve the democracy in the continent.
Régimen sancionatorio en la nueva ley de competencia colombiana

Abstract: Teniendo en cuenta la promulgación reciente de una ley en materia de competencia, referida a los aspectos procesales y sancionatorios por violación de sus disposiciones, el autor entrega al lector un estudio comparativo entre el régimen anterior y el consagrado en la nueva ley en materia de las sanciones que pueden imponer la autoridad de competencia colombiana. Se analizan las deficiencias y vacios del antiguo régimen para ver si la actual regulación mejora esos aspectos. Igualmente se destacan los aspectos sobresalientes y novedosos de la nueva legislación para finalmente, colocar en perspectiva los valores máximos que como multas podría imponer la Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio por la violación de las normas que regulan la libre competencia en el mercado.
Asociación entre la determinación de aniones no medibles y el pronóstico en pacientes con síndrome de respuesta inflamatoria sistémica.

Abstract: Objetivos: Determinar la relacion existente entre la presencia de aniones no medibles medidos por medio de los metodos de Stewart y del Anion Gap Corregido para los niveles de albumina y lactato, con el riesgo de mortalidad en pacientes criticos con sindrome de respuesta inflamatoria sistemica. Métodos: Se evaluaron los resultados de 74 pacientes, se dividio a los pacientes en dos grupos dependiendo del valor del score de SOFAque presentan, grupo de bajo riesgo (SOFA 7) y grupo de alto riesgo (SOFA> 7) de mortalidad, se determinaron los valores deAnion gap corregido para los niveles de albumina y lactato, y del Strong Ion Gap (SIG). Se compararon ambos grupos en funcion de sus medias y se evaluo la diferencia de medias para grupos independientes. Resultados: Se obtuvo un valor de de Student significativo para la diferencia de medias entre los grupos de bajo y alto riesgo, con un p<0.01 para ambos metodos de calcular la cantidad de aniones no medibles. Conclusion: Los pacientes con sindrome de respuesta inflamatoria severa presentan elevacion de aniones no medibles, los cuales estan mas incrementados cuanto mayor sea la disfuncion organica.

Abstract: El trabajo aporta una distinción conceptual entre lo que denominamos ejes de significación y concepciones de los docentes. Mientras los primeros corresponden a un conjunto de sujetos, las concepciones remiten a las ideas de cada uno de los sujetos que constituyen dicho colectivo. Los ejes se delimitan a partir del análisis lexicométrico de discursos de docentes recogidos en situación de entrevista y de desgrabaciones de los discursos orales en la sala de clase. Finalmente vincula el concepto de ejes de significación con el de habitus en Bourdieu. Abstract: We all build our own houses of wisdom, each of us; we cannot build them for each other. Teachers cannot simply invite students into their “houses of wisdom,” but can often find ways to help learners to enter and explore their own minds. While Constructivism has had a positive impact on the teaching and learning of literacy mathematics instruction continues to rely heavily on rote memorization and drills. As a young child, I learned to love math. My love of math stems from learning math with my father. He did not focus on rote memorization and drills. The primary emphasis was for a real purpose. My self-confidence was enforced when he started me out with problems that were less difficult and had many different solutions. These solutions were valued and respected, which allowed me to trust in my own problem solving abilities. How can we hope to lead children to the thresholds of their own minds when we remain intent on forcing them into our ‘houses of wisdom’? What alternative ways can we devise of interacting with children that respect their confidence and leave intact their levels of understanding, that lead them to the thresholds of their own minds excited about entering?

Abstract: We prove that the only primes which may divide the order of the automorphism group of a putative binary self-dual doubly-even [120, 60, 24] code are 2, 3, 5, 7, 19, 23 and 29. Furthermore we prove that automorphisms of prime order $p \geq 5$ have a unique cycle structure.
