Universitas Psychologica , 2007,
Abstract: Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has heterogeneous symptoms with diverse grades of severity. Latentclass cluster analysis (LCCA) can be used to classify children, using direct data from any instrument that reports thesesymptoms, without previous gold standard diagnosis. One ADHD symptoms checklist, and one ADHD comorbiditiesquestionnaire were used. LCCAs were developed for each instrument, which were administered to a sample of 540children and adolescents, aged 4-17 years, from the regular school of Manizales-Colombia. A simple correspondenceanalysis (SCA) was done to determine the relationships between the groups classified from both LCCAs. Six clusters were obtained from ADHD checklist and five from the ADHD comorbidities questionnaire. SCA found fourindependent groups, derived from the concordances between the 11 clusters obtained by the LCCAs from bothinstruments. These findings suggest that LCCA and SCA can be use as accurate taxometric procedures to classifyexternalizing psychopathologies.

Abstract: objective: to characterize the main psycho pathological findings and neuropsychological profiles in a group of offspring of parents with bipolar disorder of antioquia-colombian ancestry. methods: 20 children of parents with bipolar disorder type i were assessed using the k-sads-pl in order to establish their diagnosis according with dsm-iv-tr criteria. neuropsychological assessment was done by using subtests of the "evaluación neuropsicológica infantil (eni)" and the abbreviated version of wisc iii. bipolar parents and biological co-parents were evaluated with the diagnostic interview for genetic studies (digs). results: the most common psychiatric disorders found were separation anxiety disorder (35%), simple phobia (20%), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (50%), and oppositional defiant disorder (20%). this group of offspring also presented subsyndromal anxiety and adhd symptoms as a common psychopathological finding. none of the children assessed had bipolar disorder and only two cases presented major depressive disorder. however, subsyndromal symptoms for mania were found in a quarter of the sample. the main neuropsychological findings in the offspring were difficulties in memory evocation, memory recall, and long term memory. conclusions: this group of children and adolescents of parents with bd type i from paisa population (colombia) genetic isolate presents dsm-iv-tr diagnoses of anxiety and disruptive disorders and subsyndromal symptoms of several psychiatric disorders including bd. some neuropsychological measures show low performance in memory and attention tests.
Spirituality as a sourse of relief La espiritualidad como fuente de alivio en la fase terminal
Camilo Arbeláez Montoya,Tiberio Alvarez Echeverri
Iatreia , 1995,
Abstract: The spiritual dimension is analized as a source of relief for states of pain, suffering and death; the author proposes a definition of spirituality and studies the way in which it relates the individual with the world, confers sense to existence and facilitates the sharing of feelings; pain and suffering are looked upon from the anthropological and existential perspectives; the road to spirituality is proposed as a discovery of the self, the desire to live a senseful and in-depth life; guidelines are detailed for spiritual evaluation and support.

Abstract: in this paper the use of steel nail plates as reinforcement to prevent brittle failures in dowel-type timber joints is studied. a theoretical model based on the method of the complex functions to calculate the stresses in a timber joint is presented. laboratory tests with non-reinforced and reinforced timber joints show that with the theoretical model it is possible to predict adequately the load-carrying capacity of the joints. the steel nail plates increase the joint load-carrying capacity and consent to reduce the bolt edge distance. it is established experimentally that all reinforced joints behave explicitly more ductile.

Revista Colombiana de Anestesiología , 2009,
Abstract: background: the laryngeal mask airway is a medical device that must be used with precise indications and contraindications. its use in tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies has been reported to generate controversy. through the present study an attempt is made to evaluate the effectiveness and the security of the laryngeal mask airway in tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies. methods: a systematic review. results: 16 studies were obtained as a result of the systematic search of the published evidence. they were analyzed with methodological rigor and the following results were obtained: the flexible laryngeal mask airway brings about fewer respiratory adverse effects during the induction and the emergence of anesthesia than the endotracheal tube. it is effective in preventing sanguineous bronchoaspiration during surgery. furthermore, it must be used by trained personnel and in collaboration with the surgeon to avoid adverse events like displacement, obstruction or occupation of the operating field. conclusions: the flexible laryngeal mask airway is a useful and safe alternative for the handling of the airways in tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies by its advantages in the induction and emergence of surgery since it triggers less protective reflections of the airway at the moment. in order to avoid intraoperating complications one must have experience in its use plus empathy must exist between the surgical team and the anesthesiologist.

Introduction: Levosimendan is a pyridazinone-dinitrile derivate that increases myocardial contractility by stabilizing the Ca++ troponinc bound . It is also a pulmonary and systemic vasodilator. Levosimendan has been used successfully to treat low cardiac output states after cardiopulmonary bypass surgery. However, it unknown whether this drug can be used for the treatment of perioperative spasm of coronary artery bypass grafts. The purpose of this study is to investigate the in vitro effect of levosimendan on human internal mammary artery (IMA) to obtain scientific evidence before the clinical application. Methods:Hum
