Dom, amor e dinheiro no futebol de espetáculo
Damo, Arlei Sander;
Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69092008000100009
Abstract: this paper aims at analyzing the tensions around love and money in the context of the spectacle soccer. initially, the different meanings of the gift are expressed as synonyms of talent and endowment in the context of the formation of the players. i shall also question the tensions coming from the fact that supporters, engaged in the spectacle from the belonging to a club, committing love and money in the system, while the athletes, in return feature their talents. a paradigmatic tension case on such relation is described and analyzed in the last part of the article.
Futebol e estética
DAMO, ARLEI SANDER;
Monopólio estético e diversidade configuracional no futebol brasileiro
Arlei Sander Damo
Movimento , 2003,
Cultura e Agência – o engajamento no Or amento Participativo
Arlei Sander Damo
Campos - Revista de Antropologia Social , 2008,
Abstract: This article is the result of an ethnographic research on the Participatory Budget of Porto Alegre, Brazil. It is based on the trajectories of the counselors of one of the 17 regions that compose the city, in attempt to understand the reasons that led them to engage in such a political activity and the order of their experiences along it. The broader objective is related to understanding the meaning of political participation; that is the reason why the viewpoints of the counselors, local leaders with a well-known political engagement in the Participatory Budget, are taken into account. Thus, this article stands for an attempt to cast light on the conditions of the acquisition of ‘agency’, as a modality of action in which the subject tries to carry out a personal project by assessing the strategies he/she avails. Therefore, the main question I pose is, precisely, about the objective and subjective processes that have to do with the agency and reputation of the Participatory Budget counselors.
Influence of Vernalization and Photoperiod on the Duration of Stem Elongation and Spikelet Fertility in Wheat  [PDF]
Osmar Rodrigues, Mauro César Celaro Teixeira, Edson Roberto Costenaro, Leandro Vargas, Rafael Damo
Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/as.2014.514166
Abstract: A longer stem elongation phase (from the terminal spikelet-TS to the anthesis-ANT phases) increases grain production due to an increase in spikelet fertility. However, the mechanism behind the greater number of fertile flowers that occur when the duration of stem elongation is modified by photoperiod and vernalization is not fully understood. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of combinations of photoperiod and vernalization on the duration of stem elongation and spikelet fertility in wheat. Thus, a greenhouse experiment was performed by subjecting 13 wheat genotypes to two vernalization regimes (V0—non-vernalized plants and V40—plants with 40 vernalization days) and to two photoperiod regimes (NP—natural and NP + 6—photoperiod extended by six hours), during the stem elongation phase. The natural photoperiod increased the spikelet fertility of eight cultivars without a corresponding increased duration of the TS-ANT phase, suggesting the existence of a direct effect of photoperiod on increased spikelet fertility. Vernalization increased the duration of the TS-ANT phase, without influencing spikelet fertility. There was genetic variability in the responses to photoperiod and vernalization.
Hydrous non-crystalline phosphates: structure, function and a new white pigment
Rosseto, Renato;Santos, ádamo C. M. A. dos;Galembeck, Fernando;
Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-50532006000800002
Abstract: hydrated non-crystalline inorganic solids are often neglected due to the limited comprehension of their complex physico-chemical and structural properties. however, these non-crystalline materials exhibit a rich and varied chemistry, interesting for scientific and technological reasons. this work reviews general aspects of formation of hydrated non-crystalline solids, with special emphasis on aluminum (poly)phosphate materials. precursors and concentration variations, temperature, ageing and reaction ph are trivial synthetic variables, but they promote the formation of a myriad of compounds adequate for many functions. amorphous aluminum phosphates are widely employed in different industrial applications, providing good examples of the potential of hydrous amorphous solids.
Influence of Air Temperature on the Performance of Different Water-Reducing Admixtures with Respect to the Properties of Fresh and Hardened Mortar

Advances in Civil Engineering , 2010, DOI: 10.1155/2010/136768
Abstract: The performance of water-reducing admixtures used in concrete is affected by the weather conditions to which the concrete mixture is exposed. The most used WRAs are lignosulfonate, naphthalene, and polycarboxylate. However, they react differently to weather conditions, especially to air temperature. Therefore, it can be useful to evaluate how temperature affects admixture performance. In this study, the performance of three admixtures (naphthalene, lignosulfonate, and polycarboxylate) was evaluated at 15, 25, and 35°C by means of the flow table test, mixture air content, and compressive strength. Moreover, mixture temperature was monitored and time-temperature curves were plotted in order to assess whether the admixtures affected cement hydration reactions at different temperatures. The final results indicate that an increase in temperature leads to an increase in saturation dosage; lignosulfonate had the most pronounced retarding effect, followed by polycarboxylate, and finally, naphthalene, and considering the weather conditions in the area where the study was carried, the final finding would be that the naphthalene-based admixture had the best performance. 1. Introduction Over the past several decades, admixtures have increasingly been used to modify specific properties of concrete mixtures and to reduce costs. Such modifications often lead to an increase in workability, a reduction in water content, better control over setting time, and an increase in strength. Admixture effectiveness, with respect to both fresh and hardened concrete, depends on variables related to the cement, aggregates, and admixtures themselves, and also depends on external factors such as air temperature. Water-reducing admixtures stand out among the most used in concrete. They can be composed of various active ingredients, including lignosulfonate, naphthalene, and polycarboxylate. Such admixtures cause cement grains to disperse—and thus to have a plasticizing effect—through mechanisms of electrostatic repulsion and steric hindrance [1, 2]. Electrostatic repulsion, which explains how naphthalene and lignosulfonates work, is brought about by the adsorption of an (electrostatically negative) sulfonic group onto the surface of the cement grain, giving it a negative electrostatic charge. The predominance of negative charges on the surface of the grains leads to repulsion between particles, thus releasing the water that is held between them. In the case of steric hindrance, the mechanism that describes how polycarboxylates work is that the particles adsorbed onto the cement grain

Abstract: background: spontaneous bacterial peritonitis is a frequent complication that occurs in patients with cirrhosis and ascites and has a recurrence rate of 70% in 1 year. in addition, this infection determines a poor short and long-term prognosis and a shorter survival rate. aims: evaluate the prevalence of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in cirrhotic patients with ascites and the effect of its occurrence on the survival. patients/methods: one thousand and thirty admissions of patients with cirrhosis and ascites were reviewed and 114 episodes of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis were documented in 94 patients. the ascitic analysis was accomplished in all patients. the diagnosis of this infection was established when the ascitic fluid polymorphonuclear count was equal or above 250 cells mm3. results: the prevalence of this infection was 11.1% and the mortality rate 21.9%. spontaneous bacterial peritonitis was community acquired in 61.4% and hospital acquired in 37.7%. the mortality rate was 18.6% and 27.9%, respectively. the infection resolved in 91.1% of the episodes by the analysis of ascitic fluid at 48 hours on antibiotics. the use of prophylactic antibiotics was documented in 22.3% of the episodes, but there are not significant differences on the mortality or type of bacteria isolated when comparing the patients with or without this treatment. conclusions: spontaneous bacterial peritonitis is a common complication in patients with cirrhosis and ascites and determines a worse prognosis, mainly when related with absence of initial response to antibiotics.
