Some Studies Based On Red, Load Modeling, Line Outage Using Voltage Stability Analysis

Abstract: There are many methods for overload relieving which have been reported for determining a secure operating point. Most of these methods use conventional optimization techniques, which are generally time–consuming from a computation point of view, especially for large systems. Further the conventional optimization technique updates all the controllers for most of the operating conditions. Under emergency conditions the operator, has to make quick decisions, with little concern for the theoretical optimality of the operating point and also the operator cannot move all the controllers to different settings within less time. In this context a simplified approach has been proposed in this paper for security oriented power system operation. The contribution of each generator for a particular overloaded line is first identified, then based on Relative Electrical Distance (RED) concept the desired proportions of generation for the desired overload relieving is obtained. Then based on the Generation Shift Sensitivity Factor (GSSF) concept the desired proportions of generation for the desired overload relieving is obtained. An attempt is also made to curtail the number of generators to be rescheduled based on GSSF for overload relieving Results obtained for network overload alleviation of 5 bus meshed system, IEEE 30-bus New England system are presented for illustration purposes. The change in load sharing and generation scheduling was examined when the slack bus was changed, generator node changed and placed in the midpoint of the system, increase in generator number, load modeling was calculated. For all the above cases the voltage stability indices (Ve, Lindex and MSV) were calculated, recorded and then compared for best performance to the previous cases. The generation scheduling was determined with line outage and subsequent load shedding.
Application of STATCOM and CROWBAR for Transient Stability Improvement and Performance Enhancement for A Wind Turbine Based Doubly Fed Induction Generator

Abstract: This paper presents a robust control of Doubly FedInduction Generator (DFIG) wind turbine in a sample powersystem. DFIG consists of a common induction generator with slipring and a partial scale power electronic converter. Indirect fieldorientedcontroller is applied to rotor side converter for activepower control and voltage regulation of wind turbine. On gridside PQ control scheme is applied. Wind turbine and its controlunits are described in details and also for STATCOM control. Allpower system components are simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK software. For studying the performance ofcontroller, different abnormal conditions are applied even theworst case. Simulation results prove that the performance ofSTATCOM and DFIG control schemes as improving powerquality and stability of wind turbine.

Abstract: Voltage stability is a key issue to achieve theuninterrupted operation of wind farms equipped with squirrel cageinduction generators (SCIG) during grid faults. A StaticSynchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is applied to a powernetwork which includes a SCIG driven by a wind turbine, for steadystate voltage regulation and transient voltage stability support. TheSTATCOM is controlled by using PQ controller technique withvoltage regulation as basic scenario. The system is implementedusing MATLAB/ SIMULINK. Results illustrate that the STATCOMimproves the transient voltage stability and therefore helps the windturbine generator system to remain in service during grid faults.The time to reach steady state torque and speed without usingvector control or direct torque control can also be achieved by usingthis STATCOM control technique.
Thermodynamic analysis of a thermally operated cascade sorption heat pump for continuous cold generation

Abstract: In this paper, the thermodynamic analysis of a cascade sorption system consists of a two-stage metal hydride heat pump as topping cycle and a single-stage lithium bromide water system as bottom cycle is presented. The effects of various operating temperatures such as driving heat, heat release and refrigeration temperatures, and design parameters such as ratio of metal hydride mass to reactor mass and sensible heat exchange factor on the combined coefficient of performance (COP) of the cascade cycle, and specific cooling power (SCP) and total cold output of the metal hydride heat pump cycle are presented. It is observed that the combined COP is found to increase with heat release and refrigeration temperatures and however, decreases with driving heat temperature. Increase of sensible heat exchange factor improves the system performances significantly. Reduction in mass ratio from 0.5 to 0.1 improves the combined COP of the cascade system by about 10 %. The maximum predicted combined COP of the system is about 1.66 at the driving heat, heat release and refrigeration temperatures of 270 °C, 125 °C and 12°C, respectively.

Abstract: coagulase-negative staphylococci (cns) are an important cause of nosocomial bacteremia and they are frequently considered as contaminants of blood-cultures. from october 1990 to september 1992, 300 positive blood-cultures for cns at the hospital s?o paulo were studied and 141 cns bacteremias were characterized as nosocomial bacteremias. clinical and microbiological criteria were defined to differentiate between true cns bacteremia and contaminated cultures. only 20.6% of the cns nosocomial bacteremia were considered as true bacteremia. most of the cns true nosocomial bacteremia were detected among newborns admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit; the presence of intravascular catheter and parenteral nutrition were significant findings. we did not detect significant difference between true nosocomial bacteremia and contaminated cultures regarding to resistance to oxacillin and slime production. the clinical criteria and the positivity of the blood-cultures up to 48 hours after incubation, utilized in our definitions, were useful parameters to characterize the cns true nosocomial bacteremia.

Abstract: The aim of the investigation is to study the effect of melatonin (Melaxen) and metformin on the processes of lipid peroxidation (LP) in blood serum and on the tissue of tumours of thin skin in mice in the conditions of tumour growth induced by benzpyrene. Materials and Methods. In experimental studies endogenous hormone, melatonin, and antidiabetic biguanide metformin have been used to correct carcinogenic effect. The dynamics of LP values has been studied on benzpyrene model of carcinogenesis. LP activity has been assessed by the content of malonic dialdehyde and the activity of catalase. Results. There has been stated significantly high antioxidant, oncoprotective and geroprotective activity in the preparations under study. The most pronounced effect has been observed in simultaneous use of melatonin and metformin.

Abstract: This paper deals with the issue of whether then are benefits in establishing an electric power production plant (EPPP) using biomass as fuel in a certain geographical area (prefecture of Kavala/ Greece) taking into account nine certain factors that strongly influence and determine the final decision about the capacity/size and viability/feasibility of the EPPP unit proposed. Using the M. Falia Model we concluded that a certain capacity’s EPPP can be established in prefecture of Kavala being viable and profitable. The nine factors used in the model are: 1. The extent of area capable to produce the biomass required for the EPPP operation; 2. The quantity of biomass required; 3. The plant mix of biomass; 4. The quality of biomass defined international standards; 5. The net thermal value 6. The ex-factory total unit cost of biomass used as fuel ; 7. The environmental benefits quantified by us; 8. The total investment cost for the EPPP; 9. The real discount rate or International Rate of Return (IRR). The model uses the EPPP capacity as dependent variable and the nine factors as independent ones, resulted in an optimal solution about the feasibility of establishing an EPPP unit in the certain area of Kavala prefecture.

Abstract: Arc welded structures are widely used in automobiles, constructions & power plants. As the main cause of weldment failure is design defect & overload, hence it is necessary to analyze the maximum stresses inthe weldment. In this paper an experimentation is carried out on welded T-joint to determine the breaking stress in the weldment. The FE analysis & analytical estimation of breaking stress is also carried out to verify the experimental results. The stress distribution along weld size & throat thickness is evaluated and also compared with reported findings. Further T-joint weld is analyzed under static tensile & bending load by varying the gap between parent plates with and without chamfer at weldment edges. The fatigue analysis under alternating tensile and bending load is also carried out and fatigue life of weldment is predicted with variation in the gap between parent plates.

Abstract: Tractor Trailers are very popular and cheaper mode of goods transport in rural as well as urban area. But these trailers are manufactured in small scale to moderate scale industry; due to which design of chassis is at primary level. In Present work finite element method has been implemented to modify existing chassis of tractor trailer which ultimately results in reduction of weight and manufacturing cost. For analysis, a 8 ton 4 wheeler trailer manufactured by Awachat Industries. Ltd.Wardha is selected. The finite element analysis of existing chassis revealed the stresses distribution on chassis members. So, an effort is made to modify the structure of existing chassis so that advantage of weight reduction along with safe stress can be obtained.
