Pakistan Journal of Nutrition , 2011,
Abstract: Clarias gariepinus of average weight 2.80 g were sourced from ARAC, Port Harcourt and used to evaluate the effect of feeding varied levels of Jackbean meal on carcass composition of the fish. 35% isonitrogenous diets of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% dietary levels of JBM were formulated. These were fed to the fingerlings randomly assigned to 5 treatments-DT1 (Control), DT2, DT3, DT4 and DT5 respectively in 3 replicates of 13 fingerlings, each using 15 plastic aquaria of 250 x 150 cm dimension. The fish were fed at 5% body weight twice daily within the experimental period of 8 weeks. The carcass crude protein content of the treatments (47.65-48.54%) were significantly (p>0.05) different, treatments DT4 and DT5 higher than the rest. The lipid content of DT1 (control) was significantly (p<0.05) higher than the rest of the treatments. The ash composition for treatments DT1 (0%), DT2 (5%) and DT3 (10%) were significantly (p<0.05) lower than DT4 (15%) and DT5 (20%). Crude fibre contents for DT2 and DT3 were significantly (p<0.05) higher than the rest of the treatments, while DT1 and DT2 were higher than the rest for the moisture. Based on the trend of the carcass composition of the fish, there seemed not to be a major nutritional difference in the fish flesh due to varied levels of JBM.
Fertility Studies on two Methods of Libido Maintenance in West African Dwarf Rams

Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012,
Abstract: An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of false mountings and sexual restraint on libido and semen fertility of West African Dwarf rams. Eighteen rams were assigned to nine treatment combinations involving 0, 5 and 10 minutes of restraint and 0, 2 and 3 false mounts. Semen quantity and quality were evaluated. Results from this study indicate that it requires the shortest time of 28.0 ? 0.65 sec at ten minutes of restraint and three false mounts (10R - 3FM) to achieve the highest libido. Mounting and prompt ejaculation provided a definite, clearly recognizable end point, for establishing that a ram was sexually stimulated sufficiently. Changes of stimulus animals and semen collection location were not commonly required to stimulate most of the rams and to maintain their sexual interest during teasing. Collection of semen with the highest total volumes (2.39?0.05ml), sperm motility (90.02?0.82%), live spermatozoa (87.88?0.65%) and total sperm per ejaculate (5.0 x109) were obtained when rams were sexually teased for 10 minutes that included three false mounts (10R - 3FM). The results of this present study suggest that 10 minutes of sexual restraint in conjunction with three false mounts are not too time consuming to be practical as methods for increasing semen output. In an attempt to maximize sperm quality and quantity sexual teasing might precede each ejaculate.
METING VAN DIE BETROUBAARHEID VAN DIE EVALUERING VAN BEDRYFSINGENIEURSWESE STUDENTE

South African Journal of Industrial Engineering , 2012,
Abstract: ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Reliability of evaluation refers to the repeatibility of results when similar tests are repeated by the same student, or a similar evaluation procedure is applied. By measuring reliability an objective, quantitative measure of the quality of an evaluation is obtained. Poor formulation of tests can be diagnosed, and problems in the evaluation system identified. The subject is dicussed with reference to an analysis of performance in Industrial Engineering subjects at the University of Stellenbosch.

Perspectives in karst hydrogeology and cavern genesis
Ford,D.C.
Speleogenesis and Evolution of Karst Aquifers , 2003,
Abstract: Hydrogeology and speleology both began during the 19th Century. Their approaches to limestone aquifers diverged because hydrogeologists tend to measure phenomena at very local scales between drilled wells and generalize from them to basin scales, while speleologists study the large but sparse conduits and then infer conditions around them. Convergence of the two approaches with modem computing should yield important genetic models of aquifer and cave. Genesis of common cave systems by dissolution is a three-dimensional problem, best broken down into two-dimensional pairs for purposes of analysis. Historically, the dimensions of length and depth have received most attention, especially the question of the location of principal cave genesis with respect to the water table. Between 1900 and 1950, different scientists proposed that caves develop principally (1) in the vadose zone; (2) at random depth in the phreatic zone; (3) along the water table in between. Empirical evidence suggests that these differing hypotheses can be reconciled by a four-state model in which the frequency of penetrable fissuration controls the system geometry. For the dimensions of length and breadth (plan patterns) there is widespread agreement that dendritic (or branchwork) patterns predominate in common caves. Irregular networks or anastomose patterns may occur as subsidiary components. When hydraulic conditions in a fissure are anisotropic (the usual case), dissolutional conduit development is competitive: local hydraulic gradients are reoriented toward the first conduits to break through to outlet points, redirecting others toward them in a cascading process. Plan patterns are most complex where there have been multiple phases ("levels") of development in a cave system in response to such effects as river channel entrenchment lowering the elevation of springs.
Matthew as marginal scribe in an advanced agrarian society

HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2009, DOI: 10.4102/hts.v58i2.563
Abstract: Analysis of 22 references to scribes in the Gospel of Matthew shows that a few of them are positive comments and that the author himself was a scribe. What type of scribe was he and how can we clarify his social context? By means of the models of Lenski and Kautsky, by recent research about scribes, literacy, and power, and by new marginality theory, this article extensively refines Saldarini’s hypothesis that the scribes were “retainers”. The thesis is that in “Matthew’s” Christ-believing group, his scribal profession and literacy meant power and socio- religious status. Yet, his voluntary association with Christ believers (“ideological marginality”), many of whom could not participate in social roles expected of them (“structural marginality”), led to his living between two historical traditions, languages, political loyalties, moral codes, social rankings, and ideological- religious sympathies (“cultural marginality”). The Matthean author’s cultural marginality will help to clarify certain well-known literary tensions in the Gospel of Matthew.
