The war and its influence on the malignant tumors’ incidence

Abstract: We have observed the incidence of malignant tumours among 254 patients of Osijek University Hospital in the pre-war period (1990-92) and 255 patients after the war (June 1992-93. After the war there has been a significant decrease of well differentiated malignant tumors incidence: 84 cases (33,07%) before the war, 30 cases (11,76%) after the war, however, there has been a significantly increased incidence of anaplastic tumours: 9 cases (3,54%) before the war, 21 cases (8,24%) after the war. There has been statistically significant increase of stomach, ovaries and testis malignant neoplasm incidence in the observed period ( 2=76,559, p<0,0001).
Priming of Stylosanthes seeds

Abstract: it is estimated that 60% of the area of cultivated pasture, in the brazilian savannah, is degraded or in process of degradation, due to, among other causes, the lack of nitrogen. the stylosanthes genus is the legume which has the greater number of cultivars used in tropical pastures, however, its seeds have characteristics which can difficult the formation of an adequate stand of plants on pasture. in this research the aim was to evaluate the effects of priming in the speed and uniformity of the stylosanthes capitata, s. macrocephala and s. guianensis seeds germination. the seeds were kept for 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours in aired media peg 6,000 at 0.0, -0.5, -1.0 and -1.5mpa. afterwards, they were sent to the germination test. the variables analyzed were germination percent, germination speed index (gsi) and average germination time (agt). for s. capitata it is recommended priming at 0.0 mpa for 10 hours, and for s. macrocephala the recommended potential is -0.5 mpa. however, for the s. guianensis the priming is not recommended under the time and potentials evaluated in this research.

Abstract: stylosanthes sw. is a genus of tropical legume with great potential for use as forage in brazil. in general this genus presents seed dormancy, which causes irregular germination, a serious problem in the establishment of pastures. several studies have explored the use of high temperatures achieving good results not only in overcoming seed dormancy in forage, as well as in the eradication of seed pests aiming at decreasing the use of pesticides. thus, to evaluate the effects of temperature treatments to overcome seed dormancy of stylosanthes capitata, s. guianensis and s. macrocephala, seeds were exposed to 50, 60 and 70oc during 5, 10 and 15 hours. seeds were then subjected to germination tests with four replications of 100 seeds each per treatment. the effect of treatment was evaluated by standard germination and speed germination index (ivg). for s. macrocephala and s. capitata the use of high temperatures overcame seed dormancy. for the first species the most efficient treatment was obtained with 60oc during 15 hours, however for s. capitata seeds the temperature of 70oc showed best results.

A retrospective search for bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) antigens in histological specimens by immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry

Abstract: Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) has been only sporadically identified as a causative agent of respiratory disease in Brazil. This contrasts with frequent reports of clinical and histopathological findings suggestive of BRSV-associated disease. In order to examine a possible involvement of BRSV in cases of calf pneumonia, a retrospective search was performed for BRSV antigens in histological specimens submitted to veterinary diagnostic services from the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Minas Gerais. Ten out of 41 cases examined (24.4%) were positive for BRSV antigens by immunohistochemistry (IPX). Eight of these cases (19.5%) were also positive by indirect immunofluorescence (IFA), and 31 cases (75.6%) were negative in both assays. In the lungs, BRSV antigens were predominantly observed in epithelial cells of bronchioles and less frequently found in alveoli. In one case, antigens were detected only in the epithelium of the alveolar septae. The presence of antigen-positive cells was largely restricted to epithelial cells of these airways. In two cases, positive staining was also observed in cells and cellular debris in the exudate within the pulmonary airways. The clinical cases positive for BRSV antigens were observed mainly in young animals (2 to 12 month-old) from dairy herds. The main microscopic changes included bronchointerstitial pneumonia characterized by thickening of alveolar septae adjacent to airways by mononuclear cell infiltrates, and the presence of alveolar syncytial giant cells. In summary, the results demonstrate the suitability of the immunodetection of viral antigens in routinely fixed tissue specimens as a diagnostic tool for BRSV infection. Moreover, the findings provide further evidence of the importance of BRSV as a respiratory pathogen of young cattle in southeastern and southern Brazil.
DIAGNOSE COMPARATIVA DA FERRUGEM ASIáTICA (Phakopsora pachyrhizi) NAS DUAS úLTIMAS SAFRAS (2004/05 E 2005/06) NA REGI O DE ITUVERAVA, SP

Abstract: the Fitopatológica Clinic of the “Dr. College Francisco Maeda” - FAFRAM, Ituverava-SP, withthe support of the Bayer CropScience inside of project SOS- Soy, comes making diagnose of the Asian rust inthe region since 2004. From May 2005 this laboratory was credential in the trust antirust of the EMBRAPA.In the harvest of 2005/06 377 deriving samples of 22 cities of the States of S o Paulo and Minas Gerais hadbeen evaluated, between them what it presented greater number of samples was of Ituverava, SP, whereas in theharvest of previous it was Uberaba, MG. In this harvest the percentage of samples with rust were greater that inthe last harvest (increase of about 60%). It must be considered that the sampling evaluated in the two harvestswas practically the same one (350 in harvest 2004/05 and 377 in 2005/06); 20 of the 21 to cultivate had presentedpústulas except cultivating BRS 214, comparative the 13 of 18 to cultivate evaluated in harvest 2004/05. The firstfocus detected in this harvest occurred in day 31/10 of 2005 in pivot area, contrasting with the last harvest wherethe rust was detected only in 4 January. The rust had beginning in vegetative phases (from V3), differing from the passed harvest, where the illness alone appeared in reproductive stadiums, mainly R1, that was also the stadium thatpresented greater index of the illness in the two harvests. Concluding the Asian rust it more precociously appearedand in a bigger number of samples since the vegetative stadium in harvest 2005/06 in comparison the previousharvest. This fact probably had the ambient conditions more favorable and also to the presence of anticipatedplantation in pivot areas.A Clínica Fitopatológica da “Faculdade Dr. Francisco Maeda” –FAFRAM, Ituverava-SP, com oapoio da Bayer CropScience dentro do projeto SOS- Soja, vem fazendo a diagnose da ferrugem asiática na regi odesde 2004. A partir de maio 2005, este laboratório foi credenciado no consórcio antiferrugem da EMBRAPA.Na safra de 2005/06, foram avaliadas 377 amostras oriundas de 22 municípios dos Estados de S o Paulo e MinasGerais, entre eles o que apresentou maior número de amostras foi o de Ituverava, SP, enquanto que na safra deanterior foi Uberaba, MG. Nesta safra, a porcentagem de amostras com ferrugem foi maior que na safra passada(aumento de cerca de 60%). Deve-se considerar que a amostragem avaliada nas duas safras foi praticamente amesma (350 na safra 2004/05 e 377 em 2005/06); 20 das 21 cultivares apresentaram pústulas, exceto o cultivarBRS 214, comparado a 13 de 18 cultivares avaliadas na safra 2004/05. Abstract: The environment contamination and the constant poisonings, reflect the lack of informationand the want of prepare of farmers and applicators to the correct and safe use of pesticides, becoming more andmore necessary to acquire knowlegde about it. It's important to improve the efficiency in the transmission ofthese informations.For this porpose it was elaborated the profile of the pesticides users with the FAFRAMMethod application . The work was carried out in of Igarapava-SP area, in 39 sugar cane farms. Through thepre-test analysis it could be gotten some important informations, such as: low school level between applicators,lack of label/bull reading no use of "EPI", a small percentage of people who didn't know of "Tríplice Lavagem"process and complete inadequate final destination of the empty pesticides packings.A contamina o do meio ambiente e as constantes intoxica es refletem a falta de informa o e odespreparo de proprietários e aplicadores, quanto ao uso correto e seguro de agrotóxicos, tornando-se cada vezmais necessária a conscientiza odos mesmos. é importante melhorar a eficiência da transmiss o dessasinforma es. Para tal, levantou-se o perfil dos usuários de agrotóxicos, com a aplica o do Método FAFRAM. Otrabalho foi realizado na regi o de Igarapava-SP, em 39 propriedades de cultura da cana, no período de janeiro ajunho de 2002. A partir da análise dos dados obtidos no Pré-teste, puderam-se obter algumas informa esimportantes, tais como: nível de escolaridade baixa entre aplicadores, falta de leitura de rótulo/bula, baixo uso deEPI, uma pequena porcentagem que n o conhece o processo de Tríplice Lavagem e destino final inadequado dasembalagens vazias de agrotóxicos.

Abstract: The project Innovating for the Future is a dedicated pioneering project on women to the field.The majority of these women does not have who them of some type of information on the danger to deal with such fitossanitários products, not having notion of the great consequences that the same ones can cause for the health of its family, when used improperly. The FAFRAM together with the FMC tries through this work to diminish in the distance between the feminine public and the relative information of security to the agrotóxicos, being tried to rescue the auto one esteem and the transforming power of these women, offering beyond the information techniques, 5 minicourses on diverse subjects, giving conditions of if professionalizing and rescuing its paper in the family and the society where they live. Through the evaluation of the event this project is concluded that lode of meeting with the yearnings of this white public and that it must be expanded for other regions of State of SP.O projeto Inovando para o Futuro é um projeto pioneiro dedicado a mulheres ligadas ao campo. A maioria dessas mulheres n o tem quem lhes dê algum tipo de informa o sobre o perigo de lidar com taisprodutos fitossanitários, n o tendo no o das grandes conseqüências que os mesmos podem causar para asaúde da sua família, quando usados indevidamente. A FAFRAM juntamente com a FMC, tentam através deste trabalho, diminuir a distancia entre o público feminino rural e as informa es de seguran a relativas aos agrotóxicos, tentando resgatar a auto - estima e o poder transformador dessas mulheres, oferecendo, além dasinforma es técnicas, 5 minicursos sobre temas diversos, dando condi es de se profissionalizarem e resgatarem seu papel na família e na sociedade em que vivem. Através da avalia o do evento, conclui-se que este projetoveio ao encontro com os anseios deste público alvo e que deve ser expandido para outras regi es do Estado de SP.
APROACH PRIMA NO CONTROLE DA FERRUGEM DA SOJA, COMPARANDO-SE DIVERSOS TIPOS DE ADJUVANTES

Abstract: Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) is one of the best plants to be cultivated because of itsadaptability in different latitudes, soil and climatic conditions. The efficacy and residual control of the fungicideon the Asian Soybean Rust (Phakospsora pachyrhizi) were evaluated, using Aproach Prima (Picoxistrobina +ciproconazole), comparing with different types of adjuvants and other fungicides. The experiment was conductedin the 2008/2009 season, according to DuPont`s criteria, in a commercial field, in Uberaba, MG. The varietyused was BRS 850 - RR. The treatments were: 300ml .ha-1 of Picoxistrobina + ciproconazole (Aproach Prima) +several adjuvants: 450 ml.ha-1 of mineral oil (Nimbus, Assist and Joint) and of vegetal oil (Natur′l óleo); 300ml.ha-1 metilado soybean oil (áureo); 5% v/v degummed soybean oil + solubilizer; 0,05% v/v Silicone Break-Thru; 200 ml.ha-1 Tensor Plus; 50 ml Máster forth /100 l of water. Other two fungicides were also tested:Azoxistrobina + ciproconazole (Priorixtra) with 300ml.ha-1 + 05% v/v of Nimbus e Piraclostrobina +epoxiconazole (Opera), 500ml.ha-1 + 0,5% v/v of Assist. Four applications were made between growth stages R-2 to R-5.5. To evaluate rust severity was used a scale for infected leaf area less than 0.6%, ranging from 0 to100%. The results of treatments were similar considering disease severity in the conditions that they were tested.A soja (Glycine max (L.) Merril) é uma das plantas mais fáceis de serem cultivadas devido à suaadaptabilidade em diferentes latitudes, solo e condi es climáticas. Avaliou-se a eficácia e residual de controlequímico sobre a ferrugem-asiática-da-soja (Phakospsora pachyrhizi) do fungicida Aproach Prima(Picoxistrobina + ciproconazole) com diversos tipos de adjuvantes, comparados com outros dois fungicidas. Oexperimento, foi conduzido na safra 2008/2009, de acordo com critérios da DUPONT, em lavoura comercial, nomunicípio de Uberaba , MG. A variedade utilizada foi a BRS 850 – RR. Abstract: The Asian soybean rust caused by Phakospsora pachyrhizi is linked to well distributed rainfalland long periods of leaf wetness. The objective was to evaluate the efficacy and residual control of the fungicideAproach Press (picoxystrobin Cyproconazole +) at 03 different doses, compared with other fungicides. Theexperiment was conducted in the 2007/2008 harvest, according to criteria of DuPont, in a commercial field inAramina, S o Paulo (with UTM: E = N = 0,206,689 and 7,777,864, with 514 meters altitude), The variety usedwas Favorite BRS-RR. The experiment was conducted in blocks with 05 repetitions at random, with 08treatments: picoxystrobin + cyproconazole (Aproach Press) in 3 (three) different doses: 200ml, 250ml, and300ml + 05% paraffinic mineral oil (nimbus), azoxystrobin + cyproconazole (Priorixtra) 300ml + 05% paraffinicmineral oil; epoxiconazole + pyraclostrobin (Opera) 500ml; trifloxystrobin + tebuconazole (Native) 500ml +250ml of methylated soybean oil (Aureo) and trifloxystrobin + cyproconazole (Sphere): 300ml + 250ml oilmethylated soybean; 02 applications being made: the 1st stage in R-3 and 2nd in R5-four on the 21th day afterthe 1st application. To evaluate the percentage of disease severity we used the diagrammatic soybean rust. It canbe concluded that despite the 03 doses behave much like the higher dose group had reduced severity andpercentage of pustules, along with increased productivity and therefore the most effective dose under the conditions tested.A ferrugem asiática da soja causada por Phakospsora pachyrhizi está relacionada às chuvas bemdistribuídas e longos períodos de molhamento foliar. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a eficácia e o residual decontrole do fungicida Aproach Prima (Picoxistrobina + Ciproconazole) em 03 diferentes doses, em compara ocom outros fungicidas. O experimento foi conduzido na safra 2007/2008, de acordo com critérios da DUPONT,em lavoura comercial, em Aramina, S o Paulo (com UTM: E = 0206689 e N = 7777864, com 514 m dealtitude), A variedade utilizada foi a Favorita BRS-RR.
