PRESENCIA DE ARSéNICO Y COLIFORMES EN AGUA POTABLE DEL MUNICIPIO DE TECUALA, NAYARIT, MéXICO

Abstract: Se determinaron las concentraciones de arsénico total (AsT) y la presencia de coliformes totales y fecales en agua potable del municipio de Tecuala, Nayarit, México. La determinación de AsT se realizó por espectrofotometría de fluorescencia atómica, por generación de hidruros; la detección de coliformes totales y fecales se realizó con la técnica del número más probable (NMP). De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos, la concentración media de AsT en la cabecera municipal de Tecuala fue de 15.82 g/L, en el ejido de Atotonilco de 19.88 g/L, en Pajaritos de 21.49 g/L, en Quimichis de 17.80 g/L y en Playas de Novillero de 19.79 g/L. Aunque las concentraciones de AsT en el agua potable del municipio de Tecuala, Nayarit, se encuentran dentro del límite establecido por las Normas Oficiales Mexicanas (25 g/L), rebasan el límite establecido por la Organización Mundial de la Salud, que establece un máximo de 10 g/L. La concentración de coliformes en el agua procedente de los pozos 1 y 3 fue de 180 NMP/100 mL y de 43 NMP/100 mL para el agua del pozo 2. La presencia de coliformes totales y fecales, sugiere la infiltración de aguas negras lo que podría incrementar los niveles de arsénico disuelto. Los resultados de este estudio servirán como antecedente sanitario de la calidad del agua de los pozos que abastecen el municipio de Tecuala, Nayarit.
PATRóN DE USO Y VENTA DE PLAGUICIDAS EN NAYARIT, MéXICO

Abstract: Los plaguicidas son compuestos ampliamente utilizados en la agricultura y para controlar vectores que transmiten enfermedades a hombres y animales. Se investigó el patrón actual de venta y uso de plaguicidas en Nayarit, uno de los principales estados agrícolas en México; estos datos no existen en la literatura. Se aplicó una encuesta a los encargados de los establecimientos de venta de agroquímicos en el estado; de acuerdo a los resultados, los insecticidas son los plaguicidas más frecuentemente empleados (45.9 %), seguidos de los herbicidas (30.5 %), fungicidas (20.1 %), entre otros. En cuanto a los grupos químicos, los organofosforados son los más vendidos y usados, seguidos de los piretroides, carbamatos y organoclorados. Contar con una base de datos completa y actual de los plaguicidas que se comercializan y en consecuencia se usan en cada una de las regiones de Nayarit, sentará las bases para futuros estudios que evalúen los efectos adversos de estos contaminantes sobre la salud humana y los ecosistemas.

Abstract: pesticides are compounds widely used in agriculture and for the control of vectors that transmit diseases to humans and animals. no studies, however, have provided data regarding the potential use of pesticides in nayarit state, one of the main agricultural states in méxico. this paper presents the use of pesticides in nayarit by obtaining the rate of their sales via a direct interview with establishment retailers. the data indicate that insecticides are the most used agrochemicals (45.9 %) in nayarit state, followed by herbicides (30.5 %) and fungicides (20.1 %). according to chemical classification, organophosphates are the most sold and used pesticides in the state, followed by pyretroids, carbamates and organochlorine pesticides. this study provides detailed and updated data about the pesticide sales and their consequent use in each region of nayarit. this database may serve as a background for future studies evaluating adverse effects of these environmental contaminants on human health and ecosystems.
“Under the Skin of the Story”: An Interview with Lia Mills

Abstract: Lia Mills is an Irish novelist, short-story writer and essayist born in Dublin. She has lived in London and in the USA, but in 1990 returned to her native city to stay and pursue a writing life. Her debut novel, Another Alice (Poolbeg, 1996), was an immediate success. Nominated for The Irish Times literary award, it develops, as Gerry Smyth has pointed out, “central concerns” of Irish fiction, such as “the family, madness, dreams, gender and nation – pulling them together into an ultimately enabling vision of the role of women in modern Ireland” (Smyth 1997: 93). Her diasporic experience somehow impinges on her second novel, Nothing Simple (Penguin Ireland, 2005), about the difficulties encountered by an Irish family on their arrival in North America and which was shortlisted for the “Irish Novel of the Year” at the inaugural Irish Book Awards. In 2006 Lia Mills was diagnosed with oral cancer. Her experiences during the treatment of this threatening illness are collected in her memoir, In Your Face (Penguin Ireland, 2007), critically acclaimed and described by Anne Enright as a life-changing book. Lia Mills is currently working on a historical novel and has published numerous short-stories and essays in literary journals like The Stinging Fly and The Dublin Review. She has lectured in University College Dublin and often facilitates creative writing workshops. Lia Mills’ varied literary production is a good example of the strength and energies of modern Irish fiction.
La formulación de los objetivos en artículos de investigación científica en cuatro disciplinas: historia, lingüística, literatura y biología

Abstract: the analysis of the structural and functional properties of scientific activity textual products aids understanding the role of language in the construction and diffusion of scientific knowledge. thus, the present article is based on a study of the formulation of objectives of research articles (ra) in four disciplines: history, linguistics, literature, and biology. the goal was to identify patterns in the formulation of objectives, the sections where they are presented, and potential differences among the disciplines. 40 articles were analyzed, ten from each discipline. the results show five patterns in the formulation of objectives, which are presented indistinctively within the abstract and the introduction. nevertheless, some interesting differences have been found among the ra of the disciplines studied. likewise, some ambiguity is found between the presentation of the research objective and the article objective, stressing the metonymic and performative character of the ra.

Abstract: Sometimes in Physics is possible to find definitions that, trying to simplify the most, mislead instead of clarify. That happens when defining light, where you can easily find wrong definitions. Light behaves sometimes like a wave, and sometimes like a particle, with the oddness that, when behaving as a particle, its energy depends on the frequency defined by the non-compatible wave model. Anyway, light comprise both wave and particle characteristics together, but not as a simple addition; it is something more. However, the lack of a precise definition has not been an impediment for the creation of a number of devices by the modern technology such as lasers, optical fibers, micro video cameras or the recent plasma TV. Many other models have been tried, some of them very sophisticated, but at e moment no one has worked satisfactorily.
La resolución de problemas en los cursos de mecánica básica

Abstract: Proposed strategies to solve physics problems usually provides advice about organizing the study or about ways ofwork, but not really give an answer to the student’s wishes: how to solve problems. In the case of basic mechanics, theresolution always can be divided in two well defined parts: a) the finding of the proper equations and b) themathematical resolution. In what follows we will talk only about part a), proposing a flux diagram that show inexplicit form the reasoning that students and professors must spontaneously realize, usually without conscience of it,in order to solve adequately any non trivial mechanics problem. Whoever have carried out this activity in any occasionwill recognize immediately its validity, because will see reflected in the diagram his/her usual process of thinking.Hence it may be supposed that the study of this diagram will contribute to get conscience of this process, providing asatisfactory answer to the question of ‘how to solve physics problems’. Besides, it should contribute to a betterclearness and efficiency of any professor when organizing its lectures.

Abstract: Every day it seems more necessary to spread and popularize science, in reference to the correct use of its expressions as well as the meaning of what it really is. There are two essential matters to take into account in science spreading. One is the identity; that is, to what point a new proposal is really science or it is not? The second is related to semantics; are the scientific or technical expressions daily used are always used rightly? Sometimes appear distorted expressions when applied to science spreading, even in not scientific or technical subjects, more confusing than clarifying. In the following the necessity of popularize science is argued, as well as some examples of incorrect semantics and contemporary criteria about what is science, and what is not.

Abstract: The meaning of the concept bioenergy is analyzed, as well as the wrong interpretations that sometimes appear in themassive media. The concept of energy comes by induction, not by deduction, and hence the educative process shouldtry to reproduce this process in the physics laboratory. In this way the concept will be much better clarified, avoidingwrong interpretations of reality.

Abstract: The following definition is discussed as an introduction to energy in science teaching. Energy: ability of a body orsystem to exert forces on other bodies or systems, or between its own subsystems. If the forces cause disordered microscopicchanges in time, the energy transmission is in the form of heat. If changes are macroscopic or ordered microscopic(electric and magnetic phenomena), the energy transmission is called work.
