Alternatives to criminal procedure against juvenile and young adult offenders and alternative to criminal procedure in the cases of domestic violence
Cvjetko Boica
Temida , 2006, DOI: 10.2298/tem0601043c
Abstract: In the paper, the author is analyzing the Act on juvenile courts of the Republic of Croatia, which foresees a broad possibility of implementing the principle of opportunity in the pre-trial, i.e. reinvestigation phase of the procedure in terms of the decision of the public prosecutor about the criminal charge against these persons, including the implementation of particular obligations as informal sanctions. Particular attention is paid to the special obligation called off-court agreement. The aim of the off-court agreement is “reconciliation between the juvenile or young adult offender and the victim of the crime, and establishment of the social peace”. Similar project and the implementation of the principle of opportunity is used in the cases of the criminal offence of domestic violence. The main aim of these obligations is to offer professional assistance to the families which are in crisis and have difficulties related to the violent behavior of one family member - mostly the father. Such an approach is more efficient than the long lasting criminal procedure, testifying and strengthening the crisis in the family. This paper gives also an insight into the legal provisions concerning this measure and its implementation in practice.

Diagnostic importance of zinc in the clarification of pleural effusions etiology
Rankovi? Bo?ko,?or?evi? Ru?ica
Vojnosanitetski Pregled , 2002, DOI: 10.2298/vsp0204385r
Abstract: Concentration of zinc in blood serum and effusion was determined in 104 patients with the pleural effusion of different etiology. The importance of zinc concentration in serum and effusion was analyzed, as well as their relation regarding the differential diagnosis of pleural effusion. It was established that the isolated zinc concentrations in serum and pleural effusion could not be used separately either in differing transudates from exudates or in the diagnosis of the pleural diseases. The average value of zinc in the pleural effusion in relation to the serum value in patients with tuberculosis effusion was 1.37, higher than 1 in all patients and was significantly different from the average value of the ratio 0,74 in patients with nonspecific and malignant pleural effusions. The relation of zinc concentration in the effusion and serum higher than 1.0 reliably indicated the presence of tuberculous pleurisy.
Radiotherapy: Past and present
Vujo?evi? Boica,Bokorov Bojana
Archive of Oncology , 2010, DOI: 10.2298/aoo1004140v
Abstract: Discovery of radioactive X-rays in 1895 by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen marked the beginning of significant events in diagnostics and treatment of many diseases. The idea of using X-rays in treatment of malignant diseases was born the same year, when X rays were used for treatment of local relapse of breast cancer, upon initiative of medical student Emil Grubbe. This event was followed by important discoveries of radioactive elements. Marie and Pierre Curie discovered polonium and radium and were awarded the Nobel Prize for their discovery in 1903 and 1911. Their daughter, Irène Curie, joined their research on radioactivity and was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1935. The potentials of radiotherapy became increasingly exploited in treatment of oncological patients. The beginning of radiotherapy in Novi Sad dates from 1934 with the arrival of Dr. Nikola Vuji , a specialist in internal medicine and radiology, and when the first universal X-ray generator was installed and used for therapy. After the World War II, radiotherapy was modernized by purchasing modern devices: 4-valve multi-voltage device (Siemens) for deep radiotherapy and contact radiotherapy by Chaoul. Today, radiotherapy for oncological patients in Novi Sad complies with modern trends and protocols (conformal technique). It has the most advanced technical capacities used worldwide and it takes into account the therapeutical effects and patients' quality of life.
Sweet and sour cherry decorative forms

Genetika , 2012, DOI: 10.2298/gensr1202367l
Abstract: Biodiversity of natural populations, biodiversity located on farm and the introduced cultivars and selections are a rich source of genetic variability in sour and sweet cherries, but they have never been bread with the aim of creating decorative varieties. Low vigour dwarfing and upright sour cherry genotypes, NS 1/16 KK and NS 1/24 KK, were selected from natural population of Fru ka Gora and private arboretum, respectively. Sweet cherry selections NS 6/15 K and R 8/27 were part of on farm conservation of genetic resources. Furthermore, reduction in vigour was achieved by defining specific combining abilities as a result of rootstock/scion interaction. The outcome of this study is unique columnar and dwarf forms that integrate specific genetic potential of varieties and selections, their interaction with rootstocks and traditional horticultural skills. Collected biodiversity is another confirmation that the Balkan peninsula is one of the most valuable secondary centres of genetic diversity and inexhaustible gene pool for breeding both, varieties and vegetative rootstocks.
Biodiversity of wild fruit species of Serbia

Genetika , 2012, DOI: 10.2298/gensr1201081b
Abstract: Several field collecting trips in the 2009-2011 period confirmed that forest fruit species are an inexhaustible genofond of extremely important varieties that yield fruit of excellent quality and high nutritive value, with wide range of applications, including nutritional, medicinal and food production. The aim of this work was to develop long term interactive and integrated strategy for selection of wild fruit species through different breeding methods, as well as popularization of selected products and their integration into intensive fruit growing. The most important morphological, ecological, and biological characteristics were studied and presented for Cornus mas, Sambucus nigra, Morus sp. and Rosa sp. For each studied fruit species, advanced selections for cultivar release has been reported.
