Cruvinel, Miriam;Boruchovitch, Evely;
Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X2011000300003
Abstract: the purpose of the present study is to exame the emotional regulation of children with and without depressive symptoms. the sample was composed of 54 basic education students of 3rd and 4th grades. of the total sample, 27 presented depressive symptoms (g1) and 27 did not (g2). data was collected through child depressive inventory - cdi (kovacs, 1992) and an interview with questions to evaluate the emotional regulation of basic education pupils - epre (cruvinel & boruchovitch, 2004). results evinced that both groups employ similar emotional regulation strategies. however, students with depressive symptoms not only reported more sadness and anger feelings, but also demonstrated more difficulty to identify their sadness, happiness and fear. results are discussed in terms of the importance of implementing programs, not only devoted to prevent depression in childhood and adolescence, but also aimed at improving basic students well-being and emotional regulations strategies.
Balan?o Social dos Bancos/Febraban: uma análise da evolu??o da responsabilidade social empresarial (RSE)
Ventura, Elvira Cruvinel Ferreira;
Cadernos EBAPE.BR , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-39512005000300002
Abstract: the objective of the paper is to establish a panorama of the evolution of the enterprise's social responsibility - rse in the banking sector, by means of the analysis of the social balance of the banks. the social balance of a period of eleven years consecutive, published for a representative association of the sector, the brazilian federacy of the associations of banks - febraban, were analysed. the social balance is considered a multiplying structural arrangement of the rse, besides disclosing the given treatment to the question. the analysis of the data shows that social responsability was modified along the years (as the practical one of the social responsibility goes if modifying to the long one of the years) - from a relatively simple report in 1993, it reaches to one high level of sophistication, incorporating the economic, environmental and social dimensions of its activities, products and services, in 2002. thus, while the subject goes gaining amplitude and prominence in brazil, the social balance goes refining and being modified in order to reflect the new standards demanded for the society, in a reorientation of the actions aiming to acquire greater social legitimacy.
Low-cost microprocessed instrument for evaluating soil temperature profile
CRUVINEL, PAULO ESTEV?O;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2000001100020
Abstract: this paper describes a low-cost microprocessed instrument for in situ evaluating soil temperature profile ranging from -20.0°c to 99.9°c, and recording soil temperature data at eight depths from 2 to 128 cm. of great importance in agriculture, soil temperature affects plant growth directly, and nutrient uptake as well as indirectly in soil water and gas flow, soil structure and nutrient availability. the developed instrument has potential applications in the soil science, when temperature monitoring is required. results show that the instrument with its individual sensors guarantees ±0.25°c accuracy and 0.1°c resolution, making possible localized management changes within decision support systems. the instrument, based on complementary metal oxide semiconductor devices as well as thermocouples, operates in either automatic or non-automatic mode.
Regula??o emocional: a constru??o de um instrumento e resultados iniciais
Cruvinel, Miriam;Boruchovitch, Evely;
Psicologia em Estudo , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-73722010000300011
Abstract: this study is aimed at both describing the steps of construction of a qualitative instrument to investigate the emotional regulation strategies of brazilian students, and reporting preliminary results. the sample was composed of 54 third and fourth grade basic education students of a public school in campinas. the instrument consists of a 24 interview questions grouped into four emotions: sadness, anger, fear and happiness. it also includes eight boards with pictures of children expressing each of the emotions investigated. students' answers to interview questions were studied through content analysis. a system of categories was developed for each question and the reliability of the coding procedures was evaluated by two independent raters. the percentage of agreement between them was acceptable. the results showed that engagement in pleasant activities was the most frequent strategy to deal with sadness, anger, fear and to keep happiness. future studies employing this instrument should be carried out to better refine it.

Cruvinel, Miriam;Boruchovitch, Evely;
Psicologia: Ciência e Profiss?o , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-98932008000300011
Abstract: the objective this study was to identify the prevalence of depressive sintomatology in two samples of public school basic education students of campinas. two instrumennts were employed: the validated and reduced version of the child depressive inventory (cdi) and its original and translated version. the sample consisted of 169 from 3rd, 4th and 5th grades (study 1) and of 157 from 3rd and 4th grades (study 2). the prevalence of depressive sintomatology was 3, 55% in study 1 and 17% in study 2. no significant relationships emerged between demographic variables (age, gender, school grade, school retention) and depressive sintomatology in both studies as an increase in the rates of prevalence of this sintomatology has been evinced, there is a need for investigations with larger samples of basic education students, for directing efforts towards identifying risk and protection factors associated with the development of this disease, and towards refining its measurement instruments.
Sintomas depressivos, estratégias de aprendizagem e rendimento escolar de alunos do ensino fundamental
Cruvinel, Miriam;Boruchovitch, Evely;
Psicologia em Estudo , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-73722004000300005
Abstract: the incidence of depressive symptoms in children has been increasing. it has been demonstrated that these symptoms have negative effects in the learning process. in line with that, the present study has the objective to evaluate the relationship between depressive symptoms, learning strategies and students' academic achievement. the sample was composed of 169 students of 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, and from both sexes of a public school in the city of campinas. age range varied from 8 to15, and the majority of the students had not repeated a school grade level. results suggested significant differences between depressive symptoms and mathematics achievement, as well as between learning strategies and school achievement. a significant and negative correlation was found between participants' depressive symptoms and their learning strategies repertoire.
Depress?o infantil: uma contribui??o para a prática educacional
Cruvinel, Miriam;Boruchovitch, Evely;
Psicologia Escolar e Educacional , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-85572003000100008
Abstract: presently there are no doubts about the existence of children’s depression during school years. the incidence of depressive symptoms in school years is around 1,8%. however, when it is taken into account the incidence of these symptoms in children who present learning difficulties, this rate increases considerably. the relationship between children’s depression and school performance has been studied in the foreign literature, but in brazilian population these studies are still scarce. there is still a need for a deeper understanding of the specific nature of this relationship since it is possible that depressive symptoms can contribute negatively to students’ learning and performance. it is also equally possible that learning dificulties can lead to depression symptoms occurence. in line with that, the present study has objective to review the literature critically concerning the realtionship between children’s depression and school performance in order to contribute to a better understanding of this relationship among teachers and educators.

Revista Interamericana de Psicología , 2009,
Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the self-concept and the self-efficacy of 54 children of 3rd and 4th grades, 27 with depressive symptoms (G1) and 27 without symptoms (G2). Participants′ mean ages were 8,74 (SD= 0,71) for G1 and 8,67 (SD=0,68) for G2. Data were collected through Children Depressive Inventory (CDI), a self-efficacy scale and Piers-Harris Children′s Self-Concept Scale. Results evinced that G1 had a lower mean than did their G2 counterparts. Children in G1 evaluate themselves more negatively in the different domains of self-concepts than do children in G2. Findings were congruent with the literature. It is recommended that intervention procedures target at risk group students be developed at schools.
