The rubber tree is currently the sole commercial source of natural rubber. Its importance is given for their participation in the production of tires, rubber products and also in medical devices. The growth of the natural rubber required the development of new rubber tree clones with superior agronomics and technologic latex traits. In Campinas, S o Paulo State, a test was established using 20 half-sib progenies from superior clones presented in therubber tree bank dated 1952 on the Instituto Agron mico (IAC). An experimental design in randomized block was used with 4 replications, 10 plants per plot spaced on 2x2m. At six and 12 months after transplanting plant height and diameter were evaluated. The progenies showed good performance for the analysed traits. The progenie AVROS 1328 showed the higher value for plant height and diameter for both ages. There is the possibility of success throughthe selection among this progenies.

Health (Health) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/health.2010.23029
Abstract: We report a 35-year-old female patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, left ventricular noncompaction, and Wolff-Parkinson-White EKG pattern. Several other family members present the same clinical condition. We speculate that this phenotype is related to the genotypes PRKAG2 and LAMP2 represented by mutations of the genes encoding AMP-activated protein kinase (PRKAG2) and lysosome associated membrane protein 2 (LAMP2).
Diferentes tecnologias de ilumina??o para produ??o de mudas de crisantemo
David, Eduardo;Rossi, Luiz A.;
Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-43662010000300004
Abstract: the application of artificial illumination to induce photoperiodic effects on chrysanthemum nursevy production implies in a rational electrical energy use. in this context, the objective of this research was to test and to analyze the application of high intensity discharge (hid) illumination to substitute the conventional incandescent filament illumination in chrysanthemum nurseries production. the presence of floral buttons was taken as the main parameter in evaluating the tested varieties because it is closely associated to photoperiodic effects. electrical energy evaluation parameters included demand, consumption, power factor as well as specific consumption. results generated by the statistical analysis indicated no increase in the number of buttons associated with the high discharge illumination method. however the illumination with compacted yellow fluorescent discharge lamps of 23 w presented the lowest maximum demand as well as a 75% energy consumption reduction when compared with the 100 w incandescent lamps.

Abstract: Kitchen sponges continue to be heavily used in Brazilian food services, even though they may be very contaminated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the microbiological contamination and the efficacy of two procedures for the disinfection of kitchen sponges used in Brazilian food services. Eighty sponges were collected from food services and then analyzed for the quantification heterotrophic microorganisms (HM), fecal coliforms (CF), Staphylococcus coagulase-positive (SA) microorganisms and to the investigation of the presence of Salmonella sp. (SAM). After that, the sponges were disinfected, separately, by either boiling water for five minutes or immersed in 200ppm sodium hypochlorite, for 10 minutes, added to a rinse with potable water. The results showed that sponges presented HM counts between 3.4 and 10.4 log CFU/sponge, with an average of 9.1 log CFU/sponge, and 76.25% of them presented CF with average counts of 8.4 log CFU/sponge. SA and SAM were found in 2.5% of samples. Both disinfection procedures were able to significantly reduce the bacterial counts, but the boiling method showed a greater reduction (99.9999%) than the method of disinfection by 200 ppm sodium hypochlorite (99.9%). Based on the results it was possible to conclude that kitchen sponges can be very contaminated, but simple disinfection procedure can be applied to significantly reduce the microbial contamination.
SRN1 and Stille Reactions: A New Synthetic Strategy
Eduardo F. Corsico,Roberto A. Rossi
Molecules , 2000, DOI: 10.3390/50300431
Abstract: The photostimulated reaction of Me3Sn- ion with mono, di and trichloro arenes in liquid ammonia gave very good yields of stannanes by the SRN1 mechanism. These products reacted by a palladium-catalized cross coupling reaction with halobenzenes to give phenylated products also in very goods yields. Similar yields can be obtained in one-pot reactions.

Engenharia Agrícola , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-69162012000400005
Abstract: the type of artificial light used for inducing photoperiod effect in begonia's seedlings at greenhouse has fundamental importance in the growth and development of these plants and directly reflects in the electrical energy consumption used in this production process. the objective of this research was to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of replacing the current technology of artificial lighting used by the producers (incandescent lamps), by the technology of discharge lamps with the purpose of inducing photoperiod in a greenhouse. the analysis results indicate that the discharge lamp of 32 w tubular fluorescent discharge lamp was the one that presented the lower peak demand and lower average energy consumption of 85.01% compared to incandescent filament lamp of 100 w that is the technology of bigger consumption and currently used by the producer.
Nematóide de galha em rabanete: suscetibilidade de cultivares e patogenicidade
Rossi, Carlos Eduardo;Montaldi, Pollyanna T.;
Horticultura Brasileira , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-05362004000100014
Abstract: experiments were conducted under greenhouse conditions to determine the reaction of eleven radish (raphanus sativus) cultivars to meloidogyne javanica and the pathogenicity of this nematode to a previously selected cultivar. the cultivars tested were 'comprido branco', 'crimson gigante', 'ponta branca', 'comprido vermelho', 'serrano', 'gigante wurzburgo', 'saxa', 'redondo vermelho', 'redondo gigante', 'cometo' and 'akamaru hatsuka'. radish plants were inoculated with 2,000 eggs, and the [root-gall (ig) and egg-mass (imo) indexes and reproduction factor (fr)] were determined 53 days after inoculation. in the other experiment, three populational levels (0, 500 (low level) and 10,000 (high level) nematode eggs) were individually inoculated in 'redondo vermelho' radish cultivar. the results showed values of ig and imo superior or equal to 2.5 and fr superior to 8.0 and, according tp these data, all tested cultivars were classified as susceptible. meloidogyne javanica caused plant growth supression as measured by the values of fresh and dry weight of roots and the foliage of the plants, 39 days after inoculations. the average treatments containing low and high populational levels were satisfically different among themselves, thus proving its patogenic action on the cultivars evaluated.
