Abstract: This article presents the results of the analysis of 103 alcohol-related texts published from January to June, 2009, by four Spanish newspapers: El País (22), El Mundo (35), Abc (24), and La Razón (22). Two methods were used to examine the representation of alcohol: structural analysis based on Kayser’s model (1982) and content analysis based on framing theory. The latter method has been used to examine the journalistic treatment of biotechnology (Durant, Bauer, and Gaskell, 1998; Nisbet, M.C., Brossard, and Kroepsch, 2003; Rodríguez-Luque, 2009), which has been adapted to examine the subject of drugs (Paricio, 2010). A reliability of 90% was achieved in the Cohen’s Kappa coefficient test for the 67 variables examined in this study. The genre most dedicated to the subject of alcohol was news articles (66.9%), whose main theme was related conflict (19 texts), particularly the consequences of drunk driving (9 texts). The most used frames by journalists were, in decreasing order, crime (identified in 62 texts), new research results (in 11 texts), and epidemiology (in 15 texts). However, only few texts were dedicated to the prevention of alcohol consumption (a theme in only 4.85% of the sample) and the legal institutions dedicated to this activity (2.91%).

Abstract: background/aims: recently, new materials such as condensable composites, ormocers and the so-called ?intelligent materials? have appeared on the market aiming to reduce some of the most important problems of conventional composites. the objective of this study was to compare the marginal microleakage in class ii mod-restorations filled with this type of materials. method: class ii mod-cavities were prepared in fifty multi-rooted human teeth. the teeth were randomly assigned into one of five groups (n = 10). group 1: prime & bond nt, surefil, group 2: ariston liner, ariston phc, group 3: one coat bond, synergy, group 4: one step, pyramid and group 5: etch & prime 3.0, definite. the specimens were thermocycled and immersed in 2% methylene blue for seven days at 37°c. after longitudinal sectioning, dye penetration was evaluated using an optical microscope at 10x. results: no significant differences occurred between groups 3, 4 and 5, but these groups showed significant differences compared to the other two groups (1 and 2), which show greater microleakage scores. conclusions: the leakage produced in the groups restored with prime & bond, surefil, and ariston liner, ariston phc is significantly higher than the one observed in the groups restored with one coat bond, synergy, one step, pyramid, and etch & prime 3.0, definite.

Abstract: the objective of this study is to analyze the scientific production that exists about the relationship between the risk perception and the accidents during the clinical practice in nursing students. a systematic search was carried out in the data bases medline and cuiden, and also in the documentary heritage of the national institute of safety and hygiene at work, gathering publications from 1992 to 2010. a total of 89 articles were analyzed. among the resulting thematic fields are: work setting, step measurements, psychosocial factors. as a conclusion, a lack of studies which prove in an explicit way the role that the real risk perception that the nursing students are exposed to exists. so, the necessity to go on in this line is set out, in order to improve the safety of nursing students.

Abstract: Here, we show that CRP is a powerful inducer of angiogenesis in bovine aortic EC (BAEC) and human coronary artery EC (HCAEC). CRP, at concentrations corresponding to moderate/high risk (1–5 μg/ml), induced a significant increase in proliferation, migration and tube-like structure formation in vitro and stimulated blood vessel formation in the chick chorioallantoic membrane assay (CAM). CRP treated with detoxi-gel columns retained such effects. Western blotting showed that CRP increased activation of early response kinase-1/2 (ERK1/2), a key protein involved in EC mitogenesis. Furthermore, using TaqMan Low-density Arrays we identified key pro-angiogenic genes induced by CRP among them were vascular endothelial cell growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR2/KDR), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF-BB), notch family transcription factors (Notch1 and Notch3), cysteine-rich angiogenic inducer 61 (CYR61/CCN1) and inhibitor of DNA binding/differentiation-1 (ID1).This data suggests a role for CRP in direct stimulation of angiogenesis and therefore may be a mediator of neovessel formation in the intima of vulnerable plaques.Atherosclerosis is the underlying cause of ischemic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases [1-3]. Unstable carotid atherosclerotic plaques can undergo thrombotic complications and trigger acute clinical events [4-6]. In atherosclerotic plaques angiogenesis allows the formation of new microvessels to maintain oxygen and nutrient supply for vascular cells. Such processes are potenciated by different molecules secreted by vascular and inflammatory cells [5]. Neovessel growth occurs in active regions of atherosclerotic lesions undergoing remodelling. Our previous studies have demonstrated specific molecular deregulation occurring in these regions, consistent with the promotion of angiogenesis. The new vessels of atherosclerotic lesions may be a focus of instability, since they facilitate the infiltration of inflammatory cells and due to their tendency to leak,
