Abstract: The theme of management of professional competencies on which this article focuses on, is on the transition of the concept of skill to the one of competence, also to shed more light on the paradigm of the sociological analysis of competencies. The cognitive content of the work activity is defined as the central axis of analysis of professional competencies. We additionally propose a further discussion of these according to a recognition point of view. This means studying practices used in the Human Resources management and also in models of leadership. The article ends with a discussion in the contradiction of the model of competencies.

Abstract: The aim of this article is to reflect both on the evolution and the present state of the theoretical production of organisation, taking into account pedagogical objectives. We are looking at reflecting on the above by analysing some of the main economical and sociological theories of organisation. A crossed approach of these two areas of study provides us with a theoretical framework which allow us simultaneously to understand the organisation decision making and the paradoxes that influence organisation practice in what concerns to the relationship of work and job.

Abstract: This article seeks to reflect on the importance of a university degree in the labor market. Regarding the profound changes occurring on the economic sphere, the transition of young graduates in the labor market gets a configuration increasingly insecure and unstable.According to that, this article identifies and discusses various aspects which determine the employability of graduates in sociology from the Faculty of Arts of University of Porto, through the data collected in 2006 by Employment Observatory of Graduates in Sociology, and in continuity with the two previous studies which resulted in two articles, conducted in 1998 and 2003, and published in 2001 and 2004 respectively.

Abstract: scientific literature encloses little knowledge on the prevalence of dental caries in municipalities in the amazon region. the present study aimed to investigate the prevalence and treatment needs in the population of 12-year-old children in the municipality of rio preto da eva, amazonas, in the year 2007, according to gender and type of locality (rural or urban). this was a cross-sectional study of descriptive and exploratory nature with collection of primary data on the disease. the design was based on the 2003sb-brazil epidemiological survey. the sample comprised 344 children in homes and schools in the rural and urban zones of the municipality. the general dmf-t index found was 3.73 (± 0.17), with predominance of the decay component. the percentages of children free of caries in the urban and rural zones were 12.5 and 13.6, respectively. there were no statistically significant differences between genders or types of locality. in the rural zone there were around twice as many teeth needing treatment as in the urban zone. restorative treatment was the major treatment needed in this population (86.2%). the prevalence of caries among the 12-year-old population in rio preto da eva was moderate, and the mean dmf-t was above the target level established for the year 2000 by the fdi/who. the data show that there is a need to implement oral health care measures that are capable of intervening in relation to determinants of dental caries in the study population.

Abstract: Brazil is currently set up as an important worldwide example in relation to the successful incorporation of biofuel ethanol in its energy matrix. The article examines the impacts of biofuel technology insertion (flex fuel) and estimated, using the methodology Fisher-Pry, the evolution of the total vehicle fleet with this technology in Brazil in 2014. In addition, we performed a prediction of future demand for ethanol, using the technique of Gompertz, also for the year 2014. Both methodologies were checked through STATA statistical system. The study relied on data from January 2005 to October 2009, which were extrapolated to December 2014. The Fisher-Pry model was used to prepare the scenario analysis of the replacement of cars with conventional technology (gasoline), for cars with flex fuel technology. As a result, the projection showed an increase of 18.2 percentage points in five years, rising from 78.4% recorded in October 2009, to 96.6% in December 2014. As a premise, we considered the continuity of the prices of ethanol and gasoline observed between jan/02 Oct/2009 and that shows ethanol being marketed at a price below the minimum necessary to make this renewable fuel competitive with gasoline in 88 of 95 months. The Gompertz model indicated that ethanol will represent approximately 43.9% of all fuel sold by distributors at the end of 2014, whereas today this share is only 18.2%.

Abstract: To reflect, nowadays about the Portugals’ Sociology situation implies to take into account, among other aspects, the Sociologists’ rhythms, ways and conditions of transition and prevalence in the labour market. It is intended, in this article, to develop this theme with the analysis of the transition processes to the labour market by the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto graduated in Sociology. Assuming a comparative perspective with the previous study developed by the authors about the same issue, it will be analyzed the profissional dimension of the referred graduates, in particular of those that identify themselves as sociologists.

Rebelo, Maria Augusta Bessa;Lopes, Márcia Cristina;Vieira, Janete Maria Rebelo;Parente, Rosana Cristina Pereira;
Brazilian Oral Research , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-83242009000300005
Abstract: in the light of the scarcity of epidemiological studies on the oral health of the general population within the context of the amazon region, this study aimed to estimate the prevalence of dental caries and gingivitis, as well as to evaluate the need for restorative treatment, among school students aged 15 to 19 years in the city of manaus, am, brazil. a cross-sectional study was carried out on a sample of 889 students from within city limits who were enrolled in 26 public and private schools. dental examinations were performed to obtain the dmft index (decayed, missing and filled teeth) as well as to determine the treatments needed. the gingival index (l?e & silness) was used to classify gingivitis. the intra-examiner diagnostic concordance was 94% and the kappa statistic was 0.91. the dmft index found was 4.65 (± 0.12), without significant difference between the sexes or skin color groups. the prevalence of dental caries was 87.4%. restoration of a dental surface was the greatest need (59.3%). slight gingival inflammation was present in 78.5% and gingival bleeding following probing occurred in 53.3%. although the dmft index was lower than that observed for the northern region of brazil, restorative dental services are lacking for this population. additional studies are suggested to better understand the differences found.
Carbon Capture and Storage and the UNFCCC: Recommendations to Address Trans-Boundary Issues  [PDF]

Low Carbon Economy (LCE) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/lce.2012.323017
Abstract: This paper is mainly focused on the eligibility of trans-boundary Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project activity and it aims to explore a broad range of CCS transboundary issues whereby the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and national governments could take into consideration. Much work is still to be done by the CCS community (including the Institute) to ensure that the implementation of CCS under the CDM is both environmentally effective and commercially attractive. The recommendations focus on technical issues, with the aim of helping Parties evaluate a robust strategy for CCS as part of international negotiations and establish CCS best practice criteria for governments and the international process, thereby enhancing transparency and ensuring that CCS deployment is safe and effective. When considering CDM projects activities with a transboundary component, it is recommend that the rules of the main international treaties related to CCS be considered by the UNFCCC, especially the London Protocol guidelines for risk assessment and management and the 2006 IPCC Guidelines. Additionally, national governments should apply the rules and guidelines as delineated under the relevant existing international treaties and CCS national regulations.
