NUEVOS RETOS PARA UNA UNIVERSIDAD EN PROCESO DE CAMBIO: PUEDEN SER LOS PROFESORES (PRINCIPIANTES) LOS PROTAGONISTAS?
Cristina Mayor Ruiz
PROFESORADO , 2009,

Abstract: The faculty must attend to three representative functions of this profession: the teaching, the research, and the management. The work that we present intends to investigate in these responsibilities, as well as in the limitations and preoccupations in connection with the professional conditions of the faculty of the University of Seville. The questionnaire is used as strategies of withdrawal of information. The belief of teachers with experience and beginning teachers certifies the fundamental shaft of this work. The analysis of data and the results originating from the same are presented in this study.

Abstract: The non-visual ?-arrestins are cytosolic proteins highly conserved across species that participate in a variety of signalling events, including plasma membrane receptor degradation, recycling, and signalling, and that can also act as scaffolding for kinases such as MAPK and Akt/PI3K. In Drosophila melanogaster, there is only a single non-visual ?-arrestin, encoded by kurtz, whose function is essential for neuronal activity. We have addressed the participation of Kurtz in signalling during the development of the imaginal discs, epithelial tissues requiring the activity of the Hedgehog, Wingless, EGFR, Notch, Insulin, and TGFβ pathways. Surprisingly, we found that the complete elimination of kurtz by genetic techniques has no major consequences in imaginal cells. In contrast, the over-expression of Kurtz in the wing disc causes a phenotype identical to the loss of Hedgehog signalling and prevents the expression of Hedgehog targets in the corresponding wing discs. The mechanism by which Kurtz antagonises Hedgehog signalling is to promote Smoothened internalization and degradation in a clathrin- and proteosomal-dependent manner. Intriguingly, the effects of Kurtz on Smoothened are independent of Gprk2 activity and of the activation state of the receptor. Our results suggest fundamental differences in the molecular mechanisms regulating receptor turnover and signalling in vertebrates and invertebrates, and they could provide important insights into divergent evolution of Hedgehog signalling in these organisms.
Approximate Robotic Mapping from sonar data by modeling Perceptions with Antonyms
Sergio Guadarrama,Antonio Ruiz-Mayor
Computer Science , 2010,
Abstract: This work, inspired by the idea of "Computing with Words and Perceptions" proposed by Zadeh in 2001, focuses on how to transform measurements into perceptions for the problem of map building by Autonomous Mobile Robots. We propose to model the perceptions obtained from sonar-sensors as two grid maps: one for obstacles and another for empty spaces. The rules used to build and integrate these maps are expressed by linguistic descriptions and modeled by fuzzy rules. The main difference of this approach from other studies reported in the literature is that the method presented here is based on the hypothesis that the concepts "occupied" and "empty" are antonyms rather than complementary (as it happens in probabilistic approaches), or independent (as it happens in the previous fuzzy models). Controlled experimentation with a real robot in three representative indoor environments has been performed and the results presented. We offer a qualitative and quantitative comparison of the estimated maps obtained by the probabilistic approach, the previous fuzzy method and the new antonyms-based fuzzy approach. It is shown that the maps obtained with the antonyms-based approach are better defined, capture better the shape of the walls and of the empty-spaces, and contain less errors due to rebounds and short-echoes. Furthermore, in spite of noise and low resolution inherent to the sonar-sensors used, the maps obtained are accurate and tolerant to imprecision.

Polis (Santiago) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-65682010000200009
Abstract: this article intends to analyze how youth and the characteristics socially assigned to them emerge in a festive scenario, very influenced by the entertainment industry, based on the commodification process of the carnival from a brazilian city, ouro preto, minas gerais (mg). for this, a study about the city's carnival was made in 2009 using the qualitative approach and combining bibliographic, documentary and field research. without ignoring the numerous possibilities of appropriation of the individuals can have in the time-space of the festivity, which is plural, we identified youth as being the main product sold in the entertainment market, allied to specific ways of being young, to looks and styles bound to forms of experiencing carnival. the festivity, that until very recently used to happen on the streets of the city with the unpaid participation of revelers, became a paid, private and destined to the young public super production.

Exchange Rate as a Determinant of Foreign Direct Investment: Does it Really Matter? Theoretical Aspects, Literature Review and Applied Proposal
Isabel Cristina Ruiz
Ecos de Economía , 2005,
Abstract: This paper re-examines the role of exchange rates as determinant of FDI. It extends the analysis to include the issue of how exchange rates determine the decision of invest in one country depending on whether the firm is deciding to invest on the country to service the local market or to invest on the country in order to re-export. This paper offers a broad literature review of the state of the empirical research in order to draw conclusions of the real importance of the exchange rate as a determinant of FDI. Details of FDI current behavior in Latin American are described and I propose a model of FDI to be applied for these countries. Data sources are given.
Empirical analysis on the real effects of inflation and exchange rate uncertainty: The case of Colombia
Isabel Cristina Ruiz
Ecos de Economía , 2005,
Abstract: This paper re-examines the effects of inflation and exchange rate uncertainty on real economic activity. The existent literatura has treated both issues as separate subject matters. It has emphasized either the issue of inflation uncertainty or exchange rate uncertainty on economic growth or on different measures of economic activity. This paper attempts dealing with both issues by analyzing the magnitudes and direction of the effect of both: inflation and exchange rate uncertainty on real economic activity. By introducing dummy variables, we control for monetary policy change (the change to inflation targeting and flexible exchange rate). By using a generalized autoregressive conditional variance (GARCH) model of inflation and exchange rates, the conditional variances of the model’s forecast errors were extracted as measures of uncertainty. The results suggest that higher levels of inflation Granger cause more uncertainty and viceversa for the Colombian economy. Also, only inflation uncertainty matters for output by exerting a negative influence
