Remarried Families: Under the View of Grandparents  [PDF]

Abstract: The remarried family comes from a previous separation, by one or both partners, creating a new union that leads to the needs of adaption and shaping of new relationships among its members. Being it a time of transition, most often, grandparents are present, providing emotional and instrumental support to their children and grandchildren. This study therefore aimed to understand how the grandparents perceive and experience the remarriage of their children. The participants were nine grandmothers and one grandfather, aged between 48 and 83 years. They answered a semi-structured interview that was analyzed according to Thematic Content Analysis. The results showed a large involvement of grandparents in the remarriages of children, contributing to the adjustment of grandchildren to this new family. Acceptance and support for the choice of the children proved to be essential to achieve a sense of family among all those involved in this system.

Abstract: Este trabajo tiene como objetivo comprender los motivos y los sentimientos que están subyacentes al discurso de la madre biológica que dona a su hijo, tanto como las repercusiones de ese acto en su vida. Atenciones psicológicas a esas madres, aún en la maternidad, por veces, dejan traslucir una racionalización de estos motivos, dejando implícita algo que se supone ser del orden del deseo. Fueron entrevistadas seis madres en la franja etaria de 22 a 40 a os, con escolaridad y nivel socioeconómico bajos y que donaron a, por lo menos, 2 hijos. Las edades de los ni os entregues variaron de 0 a 3 a os. Fue realizada una entrevista semi- estructurada con cada madre conteniendo datos demográficos y cuestiones que tienen relación con el objetivo de la investigación. Fueron analizados los contenidos verbales y no verbales del discurso de las genitoras bajo la óptica psicoanalítica, buscando encontrar las posibles causas para el acto de donar a su hijo. Se constataron las condiciones de pobreza material y emocional que permean las vidas de esas madres, impidiéndolas de tener un desarrollo emocional equilibrado que se las posibilite ejercer la maternidad. Ellas tuvieron una infancia gravada por privaciones, violencias, carencias, incomprensiones y abandono. El contexto económico y familiar vivido en el momento de la gestación era desfavorable al equilibrio psíquico, a adido aún al embarazo prematuro. Con relación a los motivos que propiciaron la donación, se encontró la inmadurez como causa principal aliada a la falta de apoyo de la familia y del padre del ni o, sumados a las dificultades socio-económicas. Cuanto a los sentimientos experimentados por ellas después de la donación, se identificó tristeza, culpa, agobio, pesar y arrepentimiento. Fueron percibidos también sentimientos de incapacidad e insuficiencia como también motivadores inconscientes para la donación. En lo que se refiere a las repercusiones de la donación en la vida de esas madres, se percibió que mismo alumbrando al recomienzo después de la donación, todas se ense aron agobiadas, cansadas, insatisfechas e infelices. La conclusión a la que se llegó con este estudio es que la motivación para el acto de donar un hijo es contextualizada e individual, dependiendo de condiciones sociales, pero, mucho más, de las condiciones intra-psíquicas. Es un tema complejo, imposible de ser generalizado. Hay que se observar las diferencias de cada caso y los factores a ellos subyacentes.

Abstract: this study investigated the influence of life satisfaction and maternal locus of control on the perception of mothers about their relationships with their adolescent child. two hundred fifty-six mothers answered a questionnaire with all the relevant dimensions of the study. besides of the general scores, results of four specific dimensions underlying the life satisfaction scale and five dimensions underlying the locus of parental control scale were analyzed. the mothers' perception about their relationship with their adolescent children was also measured through a general score and five specific dimensions. even the control of the amount of demographic variance, hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that a significant amount of variance of mother-adolescent children relationship may be predicted by the general measures of life satisfaction, parental locus of control and also by the specific measures of factors like parental control, parental responsibility and parental efficacy.

Abstract: The aim at this research was to investigate the perceptions and feelings in great-grandfathers about the role play of them as great-grandfathers and the relationship with their great-grandchildren. The interviewers were 21 great-grandfathers with age average 77 years. They were interviewed in their own residences. It were subject of this research: feelings and meaning about their role play one; supporting given to the family; difficulties regards to the relationship with the great-grandchildren; how they see the relationships with the family; activities realized with the great-grandchildren; frequency of contact with them; perception about the changes over time and family’ meaning. The conclusion was that the role was seen as positive. They related difficulties regards to relationships familiar, geographic distance and poor economic situation by some of them.

Abstract: A obesidade infantil tornou-se uma preocupa o mundial e de saúde pública. Sabe-se que existem diversos fatores que predisp em à doen a (biológicos, econ micos, pessoais, socioculturais e familiares), porém, nesta pesquisa, o objetivo geral foi compreender os elementos presentes na história familiar de crian as com obesidade. Participaram seis m es e uma avó de crian as, na faixa etária entre oito a dez anos incompletos, que se encontravam em atendimento em um ambulatório de referência para obesidade infantil. Foi utilizada uma entrevista com roteiro previamente estabelecido e, posteriormente, os resultados foram analisados com base na análise de conteúdo temática. Pode-se concluir que as famílias apresentaram falta de coes o acerca das normas alimentares e de limites à crian a, conflitos conjugais e familiares e dificuldades em adequar o ambiente às recomenda es solicitadas pelos profissionais. La obesidad infantil se volvió una preocupación mundial y de salud pública. Se sabe que existen diversos factores que predisponen a la enfermedad (biológicos, económicos, personales, socioculturales y familiares), sin embargo, en esta investigación, el objetivo general fue comprender los elementos presentes en la historia familiar de ni os con obesidad. Participaron seis madres y una abuela de ni os, con edades entre ocho a diez a os aún no completados, que se encontraban en servicio en una clínica de referencia para obesidad infantil. Fue utilizada una entrevista con un guión previamente establecido y, posteriormente, los resultados fueron analizados con base en el análisis del contenido temático. Se puede concluir que las familias presentaron falta de cohesión acerca de las normas alimenticias y de límites al ni o, conflictos conyugales y familiares y dificultades en adecuar el ambiente a las recomendaciones solicitadas por los profesionales. Childhood obesity has become a global and a public health concern. Although we are aware that there are several factors that predispose to the disease (biological, economic, personal, social, cultural and familial), the general objective of this research was focused on understanding the elements present in children with a family history of obesity. The participants were six mothers and one grandmother of children aged between 8-10 years old, who were in attendance in an outpatient clinic of reference for childhood obesity in Recife. Abstract: Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo conhecer a intera o do casal em que um dos c njuges está na lista do transplante hepático. Foram entrevistados seis casais na faixa etária entre 24 a 77 anos, com tempo mínimo de convivência de quatro anos e espera na lista de transplante a partir de seis meses. As respostas foram analisadas de acordo com a Análise de Conteúdo Temática. Os resultados mostraram que: a entrada na lista do transplante foi vista como um momento de grande tens o e ansiedade, que persiste durante todo o tempo de espera; as necessidades encontradas foram a realiza o rápida do transplante e sanar dificuldades financeiras; paciência, compreens o, confian a, amor e a fé religiosa foram apontados como recursos para enfrentar a situa o; a rela o conjugal sofreu abalo, havendo casos que se caracterizaram por uma maior proximidade e, em outros, afastamento; os projetos e as expectativas de futuro mostraram-se aprisionados à espera do transplante. Conclui-se pela necessidade de um cuidado interdisciplinar que possibilite qualidade de vida ao casal.

Abstract: the present paper discusses the specificities of the adoptive parenthood, while pointing out remarkable differences on the constitution of adoptive parents' identity, and when defining important elements for a preventive assistance. in the adoption process, the child is placed into a new family in a way, which is very different from a natural birth, that is, with a pre-adoptive life story and two couples of parents. when the adoptive parenthood is established, from the impossibility of generating a biological child, mourning and losses are brought to the scenery and, thus, need to be elaborated. conscious factors (the sterility, the demands from society, the pre-adoptive life story, the biological parents, the prejudices) and unconscious factors (fears, desires, fantasies, each consort's demands) need to be considered and worked out. it is essential that candidates to parents can understand their own psychological dynamics, in order to be in condition of establishing the parameters for achieving a healthful relationship with their new child in the future.

Abstract: this research aimed to verify the perception young college students have concerning their grandparents. participated on the survey 100 college students (50 male and 50 female), 21,63 year-old average, answering a questionnaire with of multiple choice questions. the main results are: the most meaningful representation grandparents bring were the ones of "respect" and "wisdom and life experience". the favorite grandparent figure for them was the grandmother from the mother′s side. the reason for the preference was they see each other more often. regarding the contribution given by the grandparents to the family prevailed "the education given to the parents" and "their help with grandchildren". the difference between the parents and the grandparents, according to the subjects, was a difference of culture and values. for the surveyed college students, the characteristics of an ideal grandparent was, they should have "love and care" and "be open to communication". it was conclude that grandparents are very important people in the grandchildren`s life, even after they are grown.

Abstract: Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo verificar a percep o dos jovens adultos acerca dos seus avós. Dela participaram 100 universitários (50 de cada sexo), com média de idade de 21,63 anos, respondendo a um questionário com quest es de múltipla escolha. Os principais resultados s o: Os significados mais importantes representados pelos avós foram os de "respeito" e "sabedoria e experiência de vida. O(a) av (a) preferido pelos netos foi a "avó materna". O motivo da preferência foi a convivência maior. Quanto à contribui o dada pelos avós à família destacaram-se "a educa o dada aos pais" e "ajudam na cria o dos netos". A diferen a entre os pais e os avós, na opini o dos jovens, foi "a diferen a de cultura, valores". Em rela o às características de um av (avó) ideal, verificou-se que, para os universitários, eles devem ter "amor/carinho" e "abertura/diálogo/comunica o". Conclui-se que os avós se constituem como pessoas importantes na vida dos netos, embora já crescidos.

Abstract: this research aimed to investigate how psychologists and educators, acting at consulting office, understand children's learning problems and the family role, particularly the parents'. a qualitative methodology was used, based on a semi- structured protocol and individualized interviews with three psychologists and three educators. for the participants, among sources for children learning problems, they pointed out: a) childrens large dependence in relation to their mothers and fathers' peripheral participation on the school learning process, and b) the current parents' trend in delegating to the educators and psychologists the responsibility of children learning process. therefore, we think the knowledge about the contemporary family functioning, in each life cycle stage , can contribute to the child and the family group's therapeutic accompaniment.
