Hipotermia intravascular inducida en el manejo de la hipertensión intracraneana en insuficiencia hepática aguda: Caso clínico Intravascular hypothermia for the management of Intracranial hypertension in acute liver failure: Case report
Luis Castillo F,Cristian Pérez R,Carolina Ruiz B,Guillermo Bugedo T
Revista médica de Chile , 2009,
Abstract: Acute liver failure has a mortality rate in excess of 80%. Most deaths are attributed to brain edema with intracranial hypertension and herniation of structures, where ammonium plays a major role in its generation. We report an 18 year-old female with a fulminant hepatic failure caused by virus A infection. The patient developed a profound sopor and required mechanical ventilation. A CT scan showed the presence of brain edema and intracranial hypertension. A Raudemic catheter was inserted to measure intracranial pressure and brain temperature. Intracranial hypertension became refractory and intravascular hypothermia was started, reducing brain temperature to 33°C. Seventy two hours later, a liver transplantation was performed. After testing graft perfusion, rewarming was started, completing 122 hours of hypothermia at 33°C. The patient was discharged in good conditions after 69 days of hospitalization.

Universal proposals of income distribution: a normative revision
Mu?oz,Cristian Pérez;
Cuadernos del CLAEH , 2006,
Abstract: the idea of guarantying an unconditional and universal income to each member of the political community is rooted in thomas paine and joseph charlier writings some centuries ago. in recent years, the debate on this topic has been renewed. among the recent initiatives, the mostly spread ones have been the universal basic income mainly developed by philippe van parijs and the capital grants proposal elaborated by bruce ackerman and anne alstott. these two redistributive proposals present many coincidences and differences, both in the normative and factual area. this article contains a strictly normative analysis of both proposals, mainly concentrated in their key objectives. these two initiatives have been mainly conceived as normative programs aiming to improve freedom, justice and equality between individuals. the purpose of this article is to develop some arguments to uncover the main problems and weaknesses that the two proposals show when trying to meet their goals.

Pérez Mu?oz,Cristian; Rey Pérez,José Luis;
Revista de ciencia política (Santiago) , 2007, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-090X2007000200005
Abstract: in this paper we offer a normative evaluation about the universal basic income proposal (ubi) face to the most important justifications of "guarantee job" and "right to work" proposals. firstly, we present the main arguments that justify a ubi. secondly, we examine some of the most relevant reasons to believe that a ubi can be a desirable redistributive plan face to the current job guarantee policies. thirdly, we analyse the idea that an unconditional and universal income redistribution policy violates the reciprocity principle. in this sense, we argue that a redistributive policy like ubi is a better way to achieve the objectives put forward by "guarantee job" promoters, especially by those advocates with the present workfare policies. thus, the objective of this paper is to show some relevant and useful normative arguments in order to think about the existing and potential redistributive resources schemes
In this paper we offer a normative evaluation about the Universal Basic Income proposal (UBI) face to the most important justifications of "guarantee job" and "right to work" proposals. On the collision between two PNG droplets

Mathematics , 2006, DOI: 10.1007/s10955-006-9272-y
Abstract: In this article we study the interface generated by the collision between two cristals growing layer by layer on a one-dimensional substrate through random decomposition of particles. We relate this interface with the notion of beta-path in an equivalent directed polymer model and, by using asymptotics results from Baik and Rains (2000) and some hydrodynamic tools introduced by Cator and Groeenenboon (2005), we derive a law of large numbers for such a path and obtain some bounds for its fluctuations.
