Abstract: forty crossbred sows (landrace x large white) from the first parturition, with average weight of 182.2 ±16.5 kg, were used to evaluate the total lysine levels (0.95, 1.03, 1.10, 1.18, and 1.25%) in the diet, maintaining the same amino acids relation, during lactation (21 days). a completely randomized blocks design, with five treatments, eight replicates, where the sow was considered the experimental unit, was used. total feed intake did not change according to the treatments, where the sows were daily fed, in average, 4.2 kg. lysine intake and sows weight at weaning linearly increased, according to the lysine levels in the diet. although the sows weight variation was not significant, the sows fed diets with lysine levels equal or superior than 1.18% showed smaller absolute values of weight loss during lactation. weight gain and weaning weight of piglets and litter, backfat thickness and the number of days to return to estrus of sows after weaning were not affected by the dietary lysine levels. it was concluded that the level of 0.95%, correspondent to a daily intake of 40 g total lysine, met the lysine requirements of lactating primiparous sows.

Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Física e Esporte , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1807-55092011000200006
Abstract: the current research aimed to analyze the conditions of the schools sports practices (sps) in the elementary schools in the city of santos - sp, from the perspective of the manager, in relation to: a) percentage of attendance in the public sphere; b) description of the material and fi nancial resources; c) characterization of the human resources; d) characteristics of the human resources; d) characteristics of the program developed. to achieve this purpose, some questionnaires were fi lled in by managers of the private schools (n = 12), municipals (n = 35) and state schools (n = 12). it was verifi ed that few children and teenagers attended the programs in the public sphere. the installations in the private and city schools are better than the ones from the net of the state schools; it is stressed that the municipalities uses the spaces assigned by the municipal secretariat of sport and by the community. in accordance with the managers, the sps teacher/coach does not teach physical education of school in the same school. the managers of municipal and private schools reported that the sps are not related to the pedagogical political project (ppp) of the school, what indicates incredulity of the managers in relation to the educational sps feasibility. in the public sphere, it is possible to think about strategies for the democratization of these practices, with intersector programs - that articulate different secretariats and the participation of the community, in a way that the budgets may be optimized and the ppp valued within the context in which they are included. it is expected that this knowledge subsidies future discussions about initiation sports programs within the school sphere.

Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Física e Esporte , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1807-55092012000200008
Abstract: in several countries, the organization and structure of sport policies are made through programs developing in the whole country. this research analyzed the organization, structures and policies for elite sport in brazil. the analysis has been based on the 14 critical success factors (csf) which refer to the four indicators of pillar 2 from spliss model - (sports policies leading to sport success), as proposed by de bosscher et al. (2009). it has been verified that the country performs isolated actions focused on the development of elite sport that comes from cob and the ministry of sports; there is no prioritization of the application of the financial expenditure in sports which have a real chance of medals; there are cob actions related to the offering of courses to confederations and coaches; and the participation of athletes in national sports institutions are recent and restrict.

Abstract: inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (icp-ms) has been used for the determination of twenty minor and trace elements in hair samples from an urban population group (n = 1775), aiming at the establishment of reliable hair reference intervals. statistical evaluation of the data with respect to age, sex and anatomic region was performed by multivariant analysis and according to recommendations of the international federation of clinical chemistry (ifcc). the results show that mainly age and anatomic region (scalp or pubis) influence significantly the concentration of several elements. comparison of the here calculated reference intervals with those previously published and used by clinical laboratories for this population showed larger discrepancies and the need for an urgent revision of these data.

Abstract: Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is an endemic zoonotic disease in Latin America caused by Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum, which is transmitted by sand flies from the genus Lutzomyia. VL occurs in 12 countries of Latin America, with 96% of cases reported in Brazil. Recently, an increase in VL, primarily affecting children and young adults, has been observed in urban areas of Latin America. The area in which this spread of VL is occurring overlaps regions with individuals living with HIV, the number of whom is estimated to be 1.4 million people by the World Health Organization. This overlap is suggested to be a leading cause of the increased number of reported VL-HIV coinfections. The clinical progression of HIV and L. infantum infections are both highly dependent on the specific immune response of an individual. Furthermore, the impact on the immune system caused by either pathogen and by VL-HIV coinfection can contribute to an accelerated progression of the diseases. Clinical presentation of VL in HIV positive patients is similar to patients without HIV, with symptoms characterized by fever, splenomegaly, and hepatomegaly, but diarrhea appears to be more common in coinfected patients. In addition, VL relapses are higher in coinfected patients, affecting 10% to 56.5% of cases and with a lethality ranging from 8.7% to 23.5% in Latin America, depending on the study. With regards to the diagnosis of VL, parasitological tests of bone marrow aspirates have proven to be the most sensitive test in HIV-infected patients. Serologic tests have demonstrated a variable sensitivity according to the method and antigens used, with the standard tests used for diagnosing VL in Latin America displaying lower sensitivity. For this review, few articles were identified that related to VL-HIV coinfections and originated from Latin America, highlighting the need for improving research within the regions most greatly affected. We strongly support the formation of a Latin American network for coinfections of Leishmania and HIV to improve the consistency of research on the current situation of VL-HIV coinfections. Such a network would improve the collection of vital data and samples for better understanding of the clinical manifestations and immunopathogenic aspects of VL in immunosuppressed patients. Ultimately, a concerted effort would improve trials for new diagnostic methodologies and therapeutics, which could accelerate the implementation of more specific and effective diagnosis as well as public policies for treatments to reduce the impact of VL-HIV coinfections on the Latin
