Quiste pericárdico en un paciente con trasplante cardíaco: Descripción de un caso clínico
Olaya,Pastor; Contreras Zuniga,Eduardo;
Revista argentina de cardiolog?-a , 2010,
Abstract: pericardial cysts are an uncommon congenital anomaly which represents 7% of mediastinal masses. cysts frequently occur in the right cardiophrenic angle and in the anterior mediastinum. although most pericardial cysts are asymptomatic, symptoms may develop in unusually located or large cysts. the clinical manifestations depend on the site of location and on the organs involved. we describe the case of a heart transplant patient who developed a pericardial cyst after transplantation.

Contreras Zuniga,Eduardo; Zuluaga Martínez,Sandra Ximena;
Insuficiencia card?-aca , 2009,
Abstract: endocarditis related to infection of the endocavitary wire is a rare complication associated with pacemakers endocavitaries. the incidence of endocarditis that appears after the implantation of a permanent endocardial pacemaker ranges between 0.13% and 7.9%. the natural history of infection in some cases is grim, with a high mortality rate, between 30-35%, according to various studies. we present a patient with endocarditis associated to a resynchronization wire in which it was not necessary its removal.

Abstract: less than 5% of the estimated 20,000 species of bees are social, and therefore massive attacks might occur or situations of risk could be generated when swarming to build hives near or inside homes. bee venom consists of a mixture of substances, mainly protein enzymes, peptides and biogenic amines, these proteins have pharmacological actions and allergens can induce boxes poisoning in humans and animals. we describe the case of a farmer who suffered more than 500 stings by bees with a fatal outcome. in addition, a brief review of the literature is presented.
Angina de Prinzmetal

Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0066-782X2009000800023
Abstract: this syndrome is due to focal spasm of an epicardial coronary artery, leading to severe myocardial ischemia. although it is frequently thought that the spasm occurs in arteries without stenosis, many prinzmetal patients have spasm adjacent to atheromatous plaques. the exact cause of the spasm has not been well defined, but it may be related to the hypercontractility of the vascular smooth muscle due to vasoconstrictor mitogens, leukotrienes, or serotonin. in some patients, it is a manifestation of a vasospastic disorder and it is associated with migraine, raynaud's phenomenon, or aspirin-induced asthma. we present a case associated with transient st-segment depression.
International Monetary Transmission, a Factor-Augmented Vector Autoregressive (FAVAR) Approach: The Cases of Mexico and Brazil
MC Zuniga
Business and Economics Journal , 2011,
Abstract: This paper studies whether and how U.S. monetary shocks are transmitted to emerging economies utilizing as samples Mexico and Brazil. AFactor-Augmented Vector Autoregressive (FAVAR) methodology is employed to take advantage of the wide array of variables that can beincluded in this model to provide a more accurate picture of the transmission process. The results suggest that differences exist in thetransmission of foreign monetary shocks. This implies that no generalizations can be made even for countries of equal economic size and in thesame geographic region. When international transmission does exist, as it is in the case of Mexico, it induces large responses in severalmacroeconomic variables. Interest rate is the main channel of transmission, with some impact on the trade channel. Although littletransmission exists in the case of Brazil, it appears that this country slightly benefits from U.S. contractional monetary shocks. In the Braziliancase, the channel of transmission appears to be interest rates.
Modeling of Multi-Pulse VSC Based SSSC and STATCOM  [PDF]
Pavel Zuniga- Haro, Juan Manuel Ramirez
Journal of Electromagnetic Analysis and Applications (JEMAA) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jemaa.2010.23022
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to contribute to the dynamic modeling of multi-pulse voltage sourced converter based static synchronous series compensator and static synchronous compensator. Details about the internal functioning and topology connections are given in order to understand the multi-pulse converter. Using the 24 and 48-pulse topologies switching functions models are presented. The models correctly represent commutations of semiconductor devices in multi-pulse converters, which consequently allows a precise representation of harmonic components. Additionally, time domain models that represent harmonic components are derived based on the switching functions models. Switching functions, as well as time domain models are carried out in the original abc power system coordinates. Effectiveness and precision of the models are validated against simulations performed in Matlab/Simulink®. Additionally, in order to accomplish a more realistic comparison, a laboratory prototype set up is used to assess simulated waveforms.
Equa??es de referência para o teste de caminhada de seis minutos em indivíduos saudáveis
Dourado, Victor Zuniga;
Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0066-782X2011005000024
Abstract: the six-minute walk test (6mwt) has been broadly used in clinical settings. several reference equations for prediction of the total distance walked during the test (6mwd) are available in literature. the present review aimed to critically discuss studies, published in portuguese and english (lilacs, scielo, medline, pubmed), which evaluated normal values and created reference equations for predicting 6mwd in healthy subjects, comparing them with the results that were recently obtained in brazilian individuals. age, sex, weight, height and body mass index were the main demographic and anthropometric features more often correlated with 6mwd. the equations derived from these characteristics were able to explain between 25 and 66% of the total variability in the 6mwd. unfortunately, the foreign equations were not applicable to the brazilian population. even when the 6mwt was performed following strict standardization, the difference in 6mwt performance between foreign and brazilian individuals remains, indicating the necessity of providing specific reference equations for each population and/or ethnic group. accordingly, these equations developed in brazil are probably the most appropriate for interpreting 6mwt performance in brazilian patients with chronic diseases affecting the exercise capacity. future studies are necessary with larger sample sizes (e.g. multicentric ones) and randomized design for the reference values of the 6mwd to be considered reliable.
A two end family of solutions for the Inhomogeneous Allen-Cahn equation in R^2
Oscar Agudelo,Andres Zuniga
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: In this work we construct a family of entire bounded solution for the singulary perturbed Inhomogeneous Allen-Cahn Equation $\ep^2\div\left(a(x)\nabla u\right)-a(x)F'(u)=0$ in $\R^2$, where $\ep\to 0$. The nodal set of these solutions is close to a "nondegenerate" curve which is asymptotically two non paralell straight lines. Here $F'$ is a double-well potential and $a$ is a smooth positive function. We also provide example of curves and functions $a$ where our result applies. This work is in connection with the results found by Z.Du and B.Lai, Z.Du and C.Gui, and F. Pacard and M. Ritore, in "Transition layers for an inhomogeneus Allen-Cahn equation in Riemannian Manifolds", "Interior layers for an inhomogeneous Allen-Cahn equation", "From the constant mean curvature hypersurfaces to the gradient theory of phase transitions" respectively, where they handle the compact case.
An Alternative View to the Cause of Market Failures: A Dynamic Approach  [PDF]
Salvador Contreras
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2014.47069
Abstract:

This paper presents an alternative view to the cause and size of market failures. The work here suggest that the size of the market failure is not man made per se but rather given a full set of initial conditions it is endogenous to the dynamical forces at play. It is shown that the level and variance of market failures is tied to the location of the steady state (i.e. level of development). The paper finds that only changes to the location of the steady state produces changes to the potential level of the market failure. This paper adds to the increasing body of literature the notion that institutional change is not a sufficient condition to sustained economic development.
