Molina Hernández,Orlando Rafael; Monteagudo Ruiz,Consuelo Leonor;
Revista Cubana de Obstetricia y Ginecolog?-a , 2010,
Abstract: the macrosomia newborn is a heterogeneous group and of vital significance, its birth is a risky problem for the perinatology specialists. a case-control study was conducted to characterize the macrosomia newborn in the "mariana grajales" teaching provincial hospital of santa clara in 2007, to relate the mother and neonatal variables selected for study and control groups, as well as to compare the morbidity of macrosomia newborns and of those with a normal weight. the study group included all the live births neonates weighing 4000g or more and the control group included the live births following macrosomia, excluding those with low-birth weight and twins. information was gathered from a designed method to that end including the mother and neonatal variables and data were tabulated and showed in tables to express the results. it is emphasized that the 11 % of all live births had macrosomia with significant variables like age similar or greater than 35 years, multiparity, macrosomia and gestational diabetes. also, there was an statistic association including the labor at 42 weeks or more of pregnancy, body mass index (bmi) higher than 26 at pregnancy onset and the excessive weight gain (more than 15 kg). frequent neonatal morbidity: pulmonary edema, hypoglycemia, hypocalcaemia, metabolic acidosis, worsening physiological icterus, polyglobulin ant birth traumata without affecting the mortality in the institution. it is necessary the prenatal and perinatal care to limit the unfavorable results in the mother-child duo.

Abstract: Globalization and economic development have led to the study of new ways of creating income and wealth of business and in its communication with the aim of meeting the needs of groups interested in obtaining information relevant and useful for their decision making. We propose to study the usefulness of accounting information for decision-making of their primary users, focusing on the specific case of the hidden intangibles that do not appear in the financial statements and are able to create value-added production. Following the literature review, we show in favor of including intangible accounting information from legal and voluntary information with other companies to reflect fairly the assets, financial condition and results, confirming the usefulness of this information to all interested users.

Revista Costarricense de Ciencias Médicas , 2002,
Abstract: to determine fasting plasma glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin (hba1c) levels in a group of type two diabetic patients of a costarican rural zone, it was performed a descriptive investigation with 443 diabetic patients of the chronic patients program of the anexion hospital, costa rica during year 2000. the fasting plasma glucose general average was 158,02 mg/dl, ranges 70-110 mg/dl (24,4%), 141-180 mg/dl (21,7%), >/= 201 mg/dl (23,4%). the less body mass index, the less level of fasting plasmaglucose. hba1c was measured in 61,1% of those patients and the general average was 8,91%, with ranges of 31,7% (hba1c 4%-7%), 34,3% (hba1c 7,1%-9,9%) and 34% (10% or more). the comparison between giycemia and hba1c was oniy good in the 84% patients with hba1c (5.9% or less), 18% with hba1c (6%), 8,3% with (hba1c 7%),9% with (hba1c 8%), 10.7% with hba1c (9%), none with hba1c (10% and 12% or more), the 18.4% of the diabetics with 0-4 years of diagnosis of dm have less that 7% of hba1c and the 20.3% of diabetics with 10 or more years of dm diagnosis have 9% or more of hba1c. this is the first study that measure fasting plasma glucose and hba1c in costa rica, so we cannot make comparativa analysis. hba1c report is preferable to monitor the metabolic control of the diabetic population, because the confiability of glycemic reports are influence by many factors that jeopardice the compliance of the diabetics.

/////////// This presentation describes our experience as teachers of Spanish and English in Media Studies at university level. We will present our initial approach and objectives, the theoretical methodology, the description of the primary material and the methodological application of this primary material. We will describe some of the problems which have appeared, as well as detail our way of tackling and solving them from a contrastive point of view, considering that the students enrolled in this course are native Spanish speakers, as well as a considerable number of Erasmus students, among which there are various native English speakers.

A prospective and descriptive study was carried out in 270 patients diagnosed of lymphoma, admitted in Hematology Service of "Hermanos Ameijeiras" Clinical Surgical Hospital in Havana City, Cuba, from March 1, 1996 to December 31, 1998, to assess neurologic complications. 26 patients presenting with neurologic complications were detected.
