Fístula traumática carótido-yugular
Pérez Nellar,Jesús; Scherle Matamoros,Claudio;
Revista Cubana de Medicina , 1999,
Abstract: it is stated that arteriovenous fistulae between external carotid artery and jugular vein are uncommon. a case characterized by a traumatic communication between external carotid and jugular vein was presented in which such communication closed spontaneously after two years. it was proved that a waiting behaviour may be an alternative for endovascular treatment in some patients affected by this type of fistula.
Examen neurológico en ancianos
Scherle Matamoros,Claudio E.; Pérez Nellar,Jesús;
Revista Cubana de Medicina , 2000,
Abstract: a physical and neurologic examination was performed in 112 apparently healthy subjects, aged 60 or more. folstein's minimal examinations of mental functions was administered in order to study neurological signs of normal aeging. more relevant findings were determined: posture and gait disturbances, action tremor of hands, achille's arrheflexy, distal apalestesia in legs, hypoacusia, and decrease of visual aquiti. results of minimal examination of mental functions, were influenced by increasing age. average value was of 26.4 points. major affections were related to attention, calculation, and evoked memory
Anhidrosis e hipopigmentación cutánea
Pérez Nellar,Jesús; Scherle Matamoros,Claudio E.;
Revista Cubana de Medicina , 2000,
Abstract: authors presented the case of a man aged 26 with systemic anhydrosis, whose histology of sweat glands was normal. also, there was skin hypopigmentation in anhydrous zones as well as systemic osteotendinous arreflexia. autonomic neurons, melanocytes, and sensitive neurons of medullary ganglia, share a same embryologic origin from neural crista
Se dedujo un proceso degenerativo de estructuras derivadas de las crestas neurales Authors presented the case of a man aged 26 with systemic anhydrosis, whose histology of sweat glands was normal.
Las mayores afectaciones se relacionaron con la atención, cálculo y memoria de evocación A physical and neurologic examination was performed in 112 apparently healthy subjects, aged 60 or more.
It is stated that arteriovenous fistulae between external carotid artery and jugular vein are uncommon. A case characterized by a traumatic communication between external carotid and jugular vein was presented in which such communication closed spontaneously after two years.
Scherle-Matamoros,Claudio E; Pérez-Nellar,Jesús;
Revista chilena de neuro-psiquiatría , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-92272011000100010
Abstract: this review summarizes the usefulness of transcranial doppler (tcd) for the assessment of subarachnoid hemorrhage in the setting of a stroke unit. the basic hemodynamic principles are presented. we discuss the accuracy, the advantages and limitations of the tcd and the interpretation methods.
Trombosis venosa cerebral
Pérez Nellar,Jesús; Scherle Matamoros,Claudio; Roselló Silva,Héctor;
Revista Cubana de Medicina , 2007,
Abstract: cerebral venous thrombosis accounts for 0.5 % of the stroke and affects more frequently young persons with congenital or acquired risk factors. it has variable clinical manifestations that together with an adequate neuroimaging study allow to make the diagnosis. the venography by magnetic resonance or computerized tomography is the main test of diagnostic confirmation. in this review, emphasis is made on the basic clinical aspects for its diagnosis and treatment, consisting in the control of the causing factors if possible, the symptomatic treatment, especially of endocranial hypertension, and the use of anticoagulants.
Pérez Nellar,Jesús; Scherle Matamoros,Claudio; Roselló Silva,Héctor;
Revista Cubana de Medicina , 2007,
Abstract: the acute stroke units receive a great number of patients with other non-cerebrovascular conditions. a descriptive and prospective study of 275 patients consecutively admitted in the stroke unit of a hospital in havana were studied to determine the frequency of cases with non-cerebrovascular diseases admitted in this unit. it was observed an incidence of 32 cases (12 %). the most frequent diagnoses were: syncope, acute confusional state, brain metastasis and epilepsy, with 4 patients in each group. other conditions found were: herpes encephalitis (3 cases), hypertensive emergencies (3 cases), primary tumor (3 cases), peripheral vertigo (2 cases), conversive neurosis (2 cases), ataxia due to drugs (2 cases) and a patient with mill fisher’s syndrome. the frequency of risk factors was greater in vascular diseases, as well as the figures of systolic arterial tension on admission, mortality and stay length. it was concluded that the admission of patients with non-cerebrovascular diseases in the stroke unit is a common fact, and that the doctors working in it should take it into account.
Hemorragia intracerebral espontánea
Scherle Matamoros,Claudio E.; Pérez Nellar,Jesús; Roselló Silva,Héctor;
Revista Cubana de Medicina , 2007,
Abstract: it is known that intraparenchymatous hemorrhage is a frequently severe affection and that it is associated with an elevated mortality. it is asserted that less than 30 % of the sick survive 5 years after the initial stroke and a few recovered their total functional independence. a review was made on the risk factors, the physiopathology and the common problems involved in the medical treatment. according to the results of the stich prospective study, surgery has not showed better benefits than the medical treatment.
