[English] This article presents a Web assisted project management methodology that is based on an active collaborative pedagogy. Students in computer science were provided with a Web site that allowed them to communicate with the members of their project. The authors are of the opinion that this collaborative learning experience helped the students develop their skills in project management and conclude that further study should validate their results.
A simple lumped model to convert air temperature into surface water temperature in lakes

Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions , 2013, DOI: 10.5194/hessd-10-2697-2013
Abstract: Water temperature in lakes is governed by a complex heat budget, where the single fluxes are hardly assessable over long time periods in the absence of high accuracy data. In order to address this issue, we developed Air2Water, a simple physically-based model to relate the temperature of the lake superficial layer (epilimnion) to air temperature only. The model accounts for the overall heat exchanges with the atmosphere and the deeper layer of the lake (hypolimnion) by means of simplified relationships, which contain a few parameters (from four to eight in the different proposed formulations) to be calibrated with the combined use of air and water temperature measurements. In particular, the calibration of the parameters in a given case study allows one to estimate, in a synthetic way, the influence of the main processes controlling the lake thermal dynamics, and to recognize the atmospheric temperature as the main factor driving the evolution of the system. In fact, the air temperature variation implicitly contains proper information about the variation of other major processes, and hence in our approach is considered as the only input variable of the model. Furthermore, the model can be easily used to predict the response of a lake to climate change, since projected air temperatures are usually available by large-scale global circulation models. In this paper, the model is applied to Lake Superior (USA – Canada) considering a 27-yr record of measurements, among which 18 yr used for calibration and the remaining 9 yr for model validation. The results show a remarkable agreement with measurements, over the entire data period. The use of air temperature reconstructed by satellite imagery is also discussed.
Haroche, Claudine;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97022011000300014

Abstract: reflecting on the purposes of university, this essay enquires as to the very possibility of teaching, and more than that, to the possibility of knowledge and meaning in contemporary societies, in which the conditions for the incorporation and transmission of knowledges are in disarray: an uncertainty, sometimes radical, about oneself and about the other paves the way to a profound psychic insecurity. the continual sensorial fluxes trigger a novel division of the work of the senses, highlighting the role of vision in detriment of the remaining senses, inducing a redistribution of the relations between sensation, perception and reflection, and strengthening the contingency, the instability, the uncertainty that are found at the heart of the culture and education crisis. the thinking shrinks, translated into a specialization, a compartmentalization of the knowledges. what kind of personality and of conscience, what form of sensibility is stimulated by such education? what does the word conscience mean these days? can we still speak of critical activity? the individual, original thinking seems to have declined in the face of the corporation, of the group, of the collective legitimized by the number, the quantity, the demands for productivity and the evaluation by managers, and tends after that to become more and more homogeneous and conformist. nevertheless, the essay seeks to show that these features, not being new, have just been accelerated and intensified by contemporaneity, and paradoxically do not deprive us of all hope as to the purposes of university and to the possibilities of critical thinking.
Haroche, Claudine;
ágora: Estudos em Teoria Psicanalítica , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14982004000200003
Abstract: the fluidity of the contemporary society, intrinsically destituted by limitations, induces structural modifications, susceptible of putting in grounds the same possibility of structuralization, even so at the existence of the i. it is questioned here if the reasons - most fundamentally the capacity of feeling - declined to "feeling", separated from the experimentation of feeling, wouldn't them be, now, synonym of sensation.
Haroche, Claudine;
ágora: Estudos em Teoria Psicanalítica , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14982006000100001
Abstract: the contemporary societies present paradox and new forms of links and of how to construct itself in a community. an oscillation between fusion and fear of contact, characteristic of the way of the contemporary link, translates a displacement of the body's spirit. it is intended, here, through the discussion of contemporary models and types of psychological aspiration, affectionate and moral, present in the professional associations, in the brotherhood and youth movements - and in particular by the ways of studying the german youth movements post 1914 war - to consider the functional mechanisms of contemporary society and some of its phenomenons, such as the youth cult, the brotherhood spirit and the sectarian movements.
Langue, parole, sujet chez saussure et benveniste
Normand, Claudine;
DELTA: Documenta??o de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-44502011000100006
Abstract: i shall attempt to show in this paper that reading the clg from a structural and sociological view point long has hidden the importance of speech (parole) in the ?socio-historical phenomenon? of language operation. a ?semiologic view point? in reading saussure allows to stress this importance by re-introducing subject and time. benveniste's viewpoint, preoccupied as he was with his own theory of the ?double signifiance? and of the two linguistics (semiotic/semantic), re-introduces the subject in a completely different way which leads him on the one hand to a more structuralist interpretation of saussure, and, on the other hand announcing a theory of subjectivity and discourse, to turn towards a philosophical view of language.
Herzlich, Claudine;
Physis: Revista de Saúde Coletiva , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-73312005000200002
Abstract: the frailty of the human life and the frailty of the social and collective lives are the historical objects of medicine and the social sciences, respectively. this paper examines the connections between those two aspects of the frailty of life, through the relationships between the social sciences, medicine and public health, in their history of occasional cooperational but also of confrontation and mutual ignorance, based on historical cases - namely, french, english and american. whereas in medicine there was an early interest on the social aspects of diseases - even though it had no lasting consequences - in the social sciences, mauss excepted, it is only after the second world war that systematic studies about health are produced, partly linked to the establishment of systems of social protection in many countries in the aftermath of the war. in a later conjuncture, of economical retraction and strong social criticism, in last century's seventies, the sociology of health is developed in france, giving prominence to the "health market" and relegating the reflection on the frailty of life to a secondary plane. more recently, at the end of the last century, social epidemiology was rescued from the limbo, once more focusing the frailty of life as both a corporal and social issue, reaching for a closer cooperation with the social sciences. the latter have a key contribution to public health, analyzing health care systems and the access to them, the social impact of the frailty of the body or the meaning attributed by individuals experiencing it as well. it is, finally, foremost in identifying social problems linked with the health of individuals and populations, demanding in turn political action, that the contribution of the social sciences is fundamental.
Herzlich, Claudine;
Physis: Revista de Saúde Coletiva , 1991, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-73311991000200002
Abstract: focusing on work produced in france from the sixties on, the author reviews the ways in which durkheim's concept of social representation has been updated within the health-care field. while some theoretical limitations underlying the use of this concept are admitted, the author argues in favor of its continued fecundity as an analytical tool in studying phenomena of healthcare and illness. she also points to some theoretical developments that may possibly be achieved through use of the concept within this particular field.
