The pregnant woman is susceptible to both physiologic and pathologic changes of the skin and appendages. Recognition of these entities is important for appropriate management. The classification and nomenclature have been controversial and confusing, mainly because of the poor knowledge that we have regarding the origin of this entities. The purpose of this review is to contribute to the current knowledge of pemphigoid gestationis, based on a case-report its diagnosis and treatment as a multidisciplinary pathology.

Abstract: the evaluation of the performance of the management is essential to fulfill the objectives in a marine protected area (mpa). therefore, robert pomeroy in 2004 presents a manual to evaluate the development of the marine protected areas through time, by using of indicators which measure the biophysical state, socioeconomic state and governance. the present work adopts the use of those indicators to evaluate the performance of the management in the marine reserve chanaral island, atacama region. the results of the evaluation show a partial level of protection objectives fulfillment, suggesting the lack of efficient management of the reserve to ensure its suitable development. this work also presented a descriptive model, that interprets the behavior that area would facein front of two opposed scenarios, and the expected due to inefficient management of the area and otherwise an adaptive management.

Abstract: of a total of 482 patients that underwent cone biopsy in the period between 1999 and 2001, 69 patients (14.3%) needed a second intervention with the diagnose of recidivation (1%), persistent disease (6.2%) and cancer (5.3%). most of these cases presented cytological lesion associated to human papilloma virus (hpv). the patients with cancer were in initial stages and underwent the standard protocol. leep resulted effective in the control of 90.6% of the patients with cervical intraephitelial neoplasia (cin) in a mean period of 18 months of follow-up. of the group that required a second intervention, 56.7% had a hystological report of positive borders of the lesion versus 35% of the general gynaecological patients that are under control in our cervix pathology unit (cpu). - 43% (25/56) of the hysterectomy samples were negative. - 65% of the reports with positive border in the cone, had a negative report from the hysterectomy sample. - 26.8% (15/56) of cones with positive borders in the cone had negative reports from the pathologist respects the uterus. the leep fragmentation makes the interpretation of the pathologists report difficult, respect of the real compromise of the cervical stump. the electrocoagulation realized for the procedures with leep could act as the second treatment. these results do not allow to clearly establish the risk factors, for persistence or residivation disease, so we estimate that patients with the clinical history of positive or negative borders of the cone should be controlled under the actual protocols. a conservative criteria should be considered in the patients with microinvasive cancer (mica) who desire to maintain their fertility.

Abstract: ophiostoma fungi promote the occurrence of blue stain in coniferous wood, affecting the appearance wood products quality. thus, different chemical products have been attempted to control them. biological control of these sapstaining fungi, using albino strains of ophiostoma looks like a successfully alternative to be applied. however, some ophiostoma strains present a dimorphic behavior in liquid culture, which make them difficult to work with. fungal dimorphism is defined as an environmentally and chemically controlled, reversible transformation of the yeast and mycelia morphologies. in this research, a two level factorial design was applied for evaluating the effect of four operative variables on albino strain pcf2a29 (ophiostoma piceae (münch) h. & p. syd.) yeast-like growth a complex liquid medium. the results showed that inoculum size, temperature and their interaction had a statistically significant effect on yeast-like growth of albino strain pcf2a29. the most important effect was inoculum size. this factor explained 53% of the observed variability. the effect of inoculum size on yeast-like growth, phenomenon that is described in the o. piceae species by the first time with this paper, would be associated to quorum sensing activity.

Abstract: Here we report the purification and biochemical characterization of a novel nodulin from common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) root nodules. This protein, called nodulin 41 (PvNod41) was purified through affinity chromatography and was partially sequenced. A genomic clone was then isolated via PCR amplification. PvNod41 is an atypical aspartyl peptidase of the A1B subfamily with an optimal hydrolytic activity at pH 4.5. We demonstrate that PvNod41 has limited peptidase activity against casein and is partially inhibited by pepstatin A. A PvNod41-specific antiserum was used to assess the expression pattern of this protein in different plant organs and throughout root nodule development, revealing that PvNod41 is found only in bean root nodules and is confined to uninfected cells. To date, only a small number of atypical aspartyl peptidases have been characterized in plants. Their particular spatial and temporal expression patterns along with their unique enzymatic properties imply a high degree of functional specialization. Indeed, PvNod41 is closely related to CDR1, an Arabidopsis thaliana extracellular aspartyl protease involved in defense against bacterial pathogens. PvNod41's biochemical properties and specific cell-type localization, in uninfected cells of the common bean root nodule, strongly suggest that this aspartyl peptidase has a key role in plant defense during the symbiotic interaction.Leguminous plants can establish mutually beneficial associations with soil N2-fixing bacteria, mainly belonging to the Rhizobiacea family (rhizobia) [1,2]. This remarkable biological process culminates in the formation of specialized organs, the symbiotic nodules, where the N2 fixation process takes place. The legume-rhizobium interaction initiates with an exchange of molecular signals, a chemical dialog that leads to mutual recognition, the attachment of the bacteria to the plant root hairs, and the formation of the nodule meristem. Rhizobia invade plant roots via an infectio
