The objective of the research was to learn the characteristics of Uruguayan workers' feeding, their health situations and the context and considerations that their companies offer to the consumption of food. The descriptive and cross-sectional type of the study allowed to collect data, through a telephone survey (n=295), on relevant aspects of eating behavior. Almost all the workers had a meal time in hours of work and lunch was the meal that prevailed. Half of them chose red meat-based food followed by cooked vegetables as a second choice. Around 40 % of workers said they had diet-related pathologies. Only 8 % used the time recommended by the WHO for food consumption at work. Some companies do not respect the regulations of the Uruguayan government on the necessary conditions for the feeding of their employees. The implementation ofpolicies that consider the feeding of the workers as a fundamental right is necessary.

STUDY ON EFFECTS OF INTERACTIVE METHODS IN BIOLOGY LESSONS
Claudia R?MPU
Annals of West University of Timi?oara : Series of Biology , 2012,
Abstract: In recent years its noticed a decrease in pupils attendance at lessons: a lot of them were passives and unengaged. In this study we tested whether the interactive methods are more effective in teaching of Biological Sciences than the traditional methods. To achieve the objective of the research were selected two classes of 23 students, one as control group and the other as the test group. It can be seen that the initial level of the two classes was medium and similar. In the case of the experimental group, the notes of final test have grown significantly. These results have proved to be superior to those obtained by traditional methods.
Cells of the synovium in rheumatoid arthritis. B cells
Claudia Mauri, Michael R Ehrenstein
Arthritis Research & Therapy , 2007, DOI: 10.1186/ar2125
Abstract: The advent of biological therapy has provided a powerful tool to improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of disease. As well as benefiting patients, the success of targeted biological therapies demonstrates the importance of particular molecules or cells in disease pathogenesis. The potent efficacy of rituximab, a B-cell depleting agent, in the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has revitalized interest in the central role played by B cells in disease pathogenesis [1] (Fig. 1).RA is one of only a few diseases in which ectopic germinal centre-like structures can be observed at the site of inflammation [2]. These structures, which range from loose aggregates of T and B cells to distinct follicle-like structures, are often observed in close contact with the inflamed synovial membrane of RA patients. A variety of cells, including fibroblast-like synoviocytes and dendritic cells, that are present in the synovium of patients with RA produce factors that affect B-cell survival, organization and trafficking, such as B cell-activating factor of the TNF family (BAFF), CXC chemokine ligand (CXCL)13, CXCL12 and lymphotoxin beta (Table 1) [2-4]. Based on their immunological function and location, each of these factors could contribute to the recruitment and maintenance of B cells in arthritic joints, thus representing potential therapeutic targets. For example, blockade of surface lymphotoxin using a decoy lymphotoxin receptor-immunoglobulin and BAFF, as discussed below, are currently in clinical trials. Interestingly, the efficacy observed in RA patients treated with etanercept, which binds to lymphotoxin-α as well as tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α, may partly be related to blockade of the former cytokine [5]. Simultaneous blockade of more than one factor that drives B-cell accumulation may be a more efficient therapeutic approach than targeting a single cytokine or chemokine.The role played by B cells in the maintenance of ectopic germinal centre-like s
Triptans and troponin: a case report
Claudia R Weder, Markus Schneemann
Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases , 2009, DOI: 10.1186/1750-1172-4-15
Abstract: A 67-year old Swiss woman with thoracic pain after intake of 2.5 mg naratriptan presented with T-wave inversions in the ECG and a positive troponin-T at our hospital. Coronary angiography showed normal coronary arteries. Naratriptan-induced coronary vasospasms were thought to have caused the acute coronary syndrome.Triptans should not be prescribed in patients with pre-existing coronary heart disease. However, triptans can also cause acute coronary syndromes in patients without coronary heart disease – as described in our case report. Severe or persistent thoracic pain after intake of triptans should therefore be investigated accordingly.Triptans are an established treatment of acute migraine attacks[1]. By activating 5HT1B/1D-receptors they lead to vasoconstriction of cerebral blood vessels which are dilated during migraine attacks[2]. Moreover, they reduce secretion of vasoactive peptides and conduction of pain stimuli over the cerebral cortex[2]. Although triptans exert their therapeutic effect through cerebral vasoconstriction, studies have also documented vasoconstriction in the coronary, pulmonary, and systemic vasculature[3]. Under treatment with triptans in 1–7% thoracic pain occurs, which is mostly transient, mild and without lasting ischemia[4]. The incidence of myocardial infarction under triptans is estimated to be very low[4]. Most published case reports refer to myocardial infarction after the use of sumatriptan (subcutaneous [5-8,14] oral [9-12] and nasal[13] application), whereas both stenotic [6-8,12] and normal [9-11,13,14] coronary arteries could be found angiographically. Besides sumatriptan, acute coronary syndrome has been described after the use of zolmitriptan [15,16] and frovatriptan[17].Here we report for the first time acute coronary syndrome in a 67-year old Swiss patient after oral intake of naratriptan for migraine. Migraine attacks stopped completely in our patient after implementation of the calcium blocker amlodipine as antihypertens
El Género Nodipecten Dall (Bivalvia, Pectinidae) en el Neógeno de la Patagonia (Argentina)
del Río,Claudia J.;
Ameghiniana , 2006,
Abstract: the oldest record of the genus nodipecten dall is in the late early miocene when, according to the fossiliferous record known at present, it had a discontinuous distribution in the western atlantic ocean, being recorded in patagonia and in the caribbean region. by the end of middle miocene time it became extinct in patagonia and since then remained restricted to the tropical latitudes of the american continent until recent times, expanding to the eastern tropical pacific in the late miocene. its association with paratropical taxa in patagonia points to the development of warm-temperate waters reflecting the neogene climatic optimum. its extinction in the region and displacement northwards to tropical latitudes followed the abrupt dropping of temperatures by the end of the middle miocene. diagnostic characters for nodipecten are re-defined in the present paper, this genus is compared with lyropecten conrad, and a new endemic species is named: nodipecten salis nov. sp., which is found in the chenque formation (chubut province) and in the gran bajo del gualicho formation (río negro province). it is considered to be diagnostic species of the nodipecten sp.-venericor abasolensis-glycymerita camaronesia molluscan assemblage.
Algumas faces de outros eus. Honra e patronagem na antropologia do Mediterraneo
Marques, Ana Claudia D. R.;
Mana , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93131999000100006
Abstract: mediterranean anthropology has proven to be a fertile area for discussing anthropological practice in general, due to the particularly novel way in which academic discourse's object and subject merge in the region. in anthropology through the looking glass, michael herzfeld brings to the fore aspects (above all political) embedded in both mediterranean and anthropological conceptual frameworks. taking inspiration from his work, the author sets out to delineate some of the presuppositions, which appear to guide our academic and quotidian practices, starting with certain elements prevalent in analyses centering on the emblematically 'mediterranean' themes of honor and patronage. the author turns to the works collected in patrons and clients in mediterranean societies and honor and shame - core texts in mediterranean anthropology - in order to reiterate the risks involved in reducing cultural principles to simplifying formulas of questionable explanatory power, as well as to emphasize the importance of maintaining plurality in both the local elements selected and the perspectives adopted - factors which can work to inhibit simplifications, promoting instead the enrichment of the concepts we produce concerning others and ourselves.
The concept and measurement of race and their relationship to public health: a review focused on Brazil and the United States
Travassos, Claudia;Williams, David R.;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2004000300003
Abstract: race has been widely used in studies on health and healthcare inequalities, especially in the united states. validity and reliability problems with race measurement are of concern in public health. this article reviews the literature on the concept and measurement of race and compares how the findings apply to the united states and brazil. we discuss in detail the data quality issues related to the measurement of race and the problems raised by measuring race in multiracial societies like brazil. we discuss how these issues and problems apply to public health and make recommendations about the measurement of race in medical records and public health research.
