Moreno, Claudia E.;Barragán, Felipe;Pineda, Eduardo;Pavón, Numa P.;
Revista mexicana de biodiversidad , 2011,
Abstract: the shannon index of entropy and related measures of compositional complexity are often used to assess species diversity in ecological communities, even when they are difficult to understand and their values are not comparable. this paper shows that the effective numbers of species (true diversity measures) allows for a more intuitive interpretation, and offers easily comparable values of species diversity. their use is exemplified by reanalyzing the data from 4 studies published in the revista mexicana de biodiversidad (done in different ecosystems and regions of mexico, with different levels of taxonomic resolution and different biological groups). diversity estimation models are also used; these assume that samples are incomplete representations of communities. this paper also offers an explanation of how diversity measures of different orders incorporate species depending on their abundance in the community. this may be especially useful when the diversity values are used to support proposals for resource management and biological conservation.

The Shannon index of entropy and related measures of compositional complexity are often used to assess species diversity in ecological communities, even when they are difficult to understand and their values are not comparable.
Chaparro-Hurtado,Héctor R.; Guzmán Ariza,Claudia M.; Acu?a-Pineda,Armando;
ORINOQUIA , 2011,
Abstract: the article proposes a reflection, as a result of the investigation the same name, on ways that young people assignment made in urban societies, how these forms of socialization gain visibility through social representations of the body (seen in its symbolic dimension and version only, anatomical dominant discourses of physical education), the ways of "being together" in urban areas, its worldview and its educational purposes. the project generated a corpus that used qualitative methodology with focal groups in urban youth in the city of villavicencio selected as the basis of random sample of 24 subjects enrolled in different groups and structured interviews (some of them online) with national and international field work following the ethnographic method (field notes) and review of documents, grouped by analysis criteria. the project results showed as elements of reflection on forms of social bonding among young people (intrasubjective and intersubjective identification), comprehensive itineraries on body markings (tattoos and piercings that are embodied in particular youth cultures and styles), relationships between body and identity in key cosmetic and social uses of the embodiment as cultural elements associated with media formats, which are concluded transient forms of participation in youth identities, nomads of their styles associated with body searches, evidence of emerging embodied practices and lack of understanding school culture of these formats and these subjectivities.
Endophthalmitis by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. after penetrating keratoplasty, case report with an epidemiological investigation
Blanco,Claudia; Nú?ez,María X;
Biomédica , 2010,
Abstract: introduction. an endophthalmitis following penetrating keratoplasty by pseudomonas aeruginosa is a devasting case with very poor visual outcomes. objective. to determine the origin of an infection after a penetrating keratoplasty. materials and methods. after an endophthalmitis an epidemiological study was undertaken with the approval of the ethics committee and support of a medical team comprised of an epidemiologist, infectologist, bacteriologist and ophthalmologists specializing in cornea. factors that may have contributed to the risk of infection were assessed, for example, the processing and preservation of the cornea in the moment of the extraction, the characteristics of the donor, recipient and infecting bacterium, as well as the details pertaining to the surgical operation. results. no risks factors were found in the institution, in the eye bank facilities, in the donor or in the receptor. however, sterile technique could not be guaranteed in the morgue where the corneal extraction occurred, and other isolated cases of endophthalmitis post-keratoplasty had been documented involving tissues from the same morgue that had been processed by two eye banks in the same city. characteristics of the multi-resistant pseudomonas sp. demonstrated its origin from a hospital environment due to its previous exposure to a variety of antibiotics. conclusions. corneal extraction site must guarantee an antiseptic preparation and aseptic tissue donor recuperation; although in this study it was not feasible to accurately establish the infection source, all of the findings led to suspect a possible contamination at the morgue.
Efficacy of Orbscan II? and Pentacam? topographers by a repeatability analysis when assessing elevation maps in candidates to refractive surgery
Nú?ez,María Ximena; Blanco,Claudia;
Biomédica , 2009,
Abstract: introduction: anterior and posterior corneal elevations are measurements used to detect keratoconus suspects. purpose: to determine the efficacy of orbscan ii? and pentacam? when assessing their elevation maps. materials and methods: the efficacy of the orbscan ii and pentacam measuring the anterior and posterior corneal elevations were evaluated in a sample of 68 eyes. the concordance between the two devices and the coefficient of repeatability were measured following the parameters of the british standard institution by the bland-altman concordance analysis and the lin concordance correlation coefficient. results: the coefficient of repeatability at the point of maximum anterior elevation was 68.29% with the orbscan and 24.20% with the pentacam. the concordance correlation coefficient was 0.64 (ci 95%: 0.48-0.76) with the orbscan and 0.94 with the pentacam (ci 95%: 0.91-0.96). the coefficient of repeatability at the point of maximum posterior elevation was 38.7% with the orbscan and 68.0% with the pentacam. the concordance correlation coefficient was 0.69 with the orbscan (ci 95%: 0.55-0.80) with a precision of 0.71 and an accuracy of 0.97, and 0.24 with the pentacam (ci 95%: 0.00-0.45) with a precision of 0.24 and an accuracy of 0.99. conclusions: measurement of the point of maximum posterior elevation is better with the orbscan ii and less precise with the pentacam. the random error can be reduced by using the mean of three assessments and can serve as a guide in the search of diagnostic devices with minimum absolute relative error in all measurements.
Posterior elevation maps and mean power keratometric maps to evaluate keratoconus and guide Intacs implantation: a step towards improving Intacs nomogram
Nú?ez,María Ximena; Blanco,Claudia;
Colombia Médica , 2008,
Abstract: introduction: keratoconos is a cornea disorder that affects young people and is a contraindication for refractive surgery; it could be treated with contact lens, corneal transplantation or with intracorneal ring segments (intacs) insertion. purpose: to compare mean power keratometric maps and posterior elevation maps in delineating keratoconus characteristics and guide intacs implantation. methods: 23 eyes with keratoconus, 12 subjects, cone area, cone radii, cone peak area and coordinates were measured using both maps and were compared using t test. statistical significance was defined as p<0.05. correlations were assessed with pearson?s coefficient. results: mean cone area was 17.65 mm2 ± 4.63 and 35.68 mm2 ± 9.72 in posterior elevation map and mean power keratometric analysis respectively (p 0.00). both posterior elevation and mean power keratometric maps finds a similar percentage split between centre cones (cc) and de-centered cones (dc) of 78:22. however, 9% cases were found not to match after case to case evaluation. conclusion: based on the cases that not matched the cone centration, we suggest a new way to define the cone centre using the mean power keratometric map. therefore, it should be review the decisions to implant symmetric rings vs. asymmetric rings using posterior elevation map. a new parameter is discussed ?cone peak centration? in de-centered cones (dc).
Logística Reversa: "Retos para la Ingeniería Industrial"
Monroy,Néstor; Ahumada,María Claudia;
Revista de Ingeniería , 2006,
Abstract: the environmental subject has been evolving from a normal concern due to the shortage of the natural resources, to an extensive concept of sustainability and development, that involves environmental, social and economic aspects; a development more impacting and complex each time. this gave rise solutions like recycling and remanufacturing; that have had to evolve with the same dynamism. nevertheless, with out a logistic system all these policies will not have success that allows optimizing not only the matters and rejected products and their return to the productive system but also their connection with the traditional productive model. this article presents the following hypotheses; the pressure of the environmental, cultural and social tendencies, and the shortage of the natural resources, will demand to the manufacturing companies the development and optimization of reverse logistics.this reverse logistics is more complex to handle than direct logistic(towards ahead), because the high variability in factors as: forecasting, quality, standarization, confiability, etc. these becomes the most important challenges for industrial engineering; but the challenge is not only for the production area, also for the organizational structure and the companies policies. finally, the optimization of the rl will demand their integration with the direct llogistics, in a single close system: the ("integral logistic". these hypotheses are comprobated by means of analysis and comparison of international experiences, with six especial national cases. but this study is only the first path that must be extended and more developed in the future.
