Anatomical, chemical and physical characterization of candeia wood (Eremanthus erythropappus (DC.) Macleish)

Abstract: This study determined the anatomical, chemical and physics characteristics of candeia wood (Eremanthus erythropappus (DC.) Macleish). Five trees were collected from Carrancas-MG, and disks were obtained at the breast high (DBH) to sample preparation. The description and mensuration were performed at the principal anatomical structures (fibers, vessel and radial parenchyma). For chemical analysis, the extractives content, hollocelulose, lignin and inorganic components were determined. The physical properties included the basic specific gravity, specific gravity at 12% moisture content as well as tangential, radial and volumetric shrinkage and coefficients of shrinkage and anisotropy. The main results found for macroscopic characteristics were: awkward odor due to presence of oil-resin; reversal grain and hardness to the cut; microscopical characteristics: scarce parenchyma axial and radial very thin, elements of vases with numerous and very small pits, short plates of simple perforation, libriforms fibers with thick cellular wall and presence of oil cells in the ray. Chemical composition: 20.89% total extractives; 50.52% holocelulose; 28.59% lignin and 0.39% of inorganic constituents. The specific gravity at 12% was of 0.98 g/cm3 and the basic specific gravity of 0.79 g/cm3. The anisotropy coefficient was 1.91 and the coefficient of volumetric retratibility was 0.28%.

Abstract: Devido à importancia da cor da madeira como componente de descri o da mesma, é que se realizou um estudo procurando verificar a influência dos componentes químicos na cor da madeira de diferentes clones de eucaliptos. Foram verificadas as quantidades de lignina e polifenoís nas madeiras das mesmas, as dimens es das fibras e a sua massa específica. As medi es colorimétricas foram efetuadas através de um espectrofot metro Data Color 200d. Microflash. Verificou-se que, das características das madeiras estudadas, a quantidade de extrativos, basicamente polifenoís, tem alta correla o com a cor da madeira.
CHARACTERIZATION OF THE COLOR OF HYBRIDS OF Eucalyptus spp WOOD CLONES

Abstract: Due to the importance of wood characterization and standardization, this research evaluated the variability of woodcolor inside and among Eucalyptus spp clones, as well as radially and longitudinally inside the trunk through the quantitativecolorimetric color determination of clones of Eucalyptus wood., using CIELAB 1976 system, , through chromatic coordinates L*, a*,b*, C* e h. Eleven clones of natural Eucalyptus clones hybrids, cultivated at the Northwest of Minas Gerais State, were used. Theresults showed that: all colorimetric parameters were statistically different among clones, and among radial position of samples; itwas possible to identify both clones and samples position along the ray, producing wood of different colours, but tending to yellowishand reddish tonalities.
Influence of altitude, age and diameter on yield and alpha-bisabolol content of candeia trees (Eremanthus erythropappus)

Abstract: The heartwood of candeia tree is a source of essential oil rich in alpha-bisabolol, a substance widely used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. Bearing in mind the economic importance of alpha-bisabolol, this work aimed to evaluate the influence of tree age on the yield and content of alpha-bisabolol present in essential oil from candeia, considering two distinct reliefs and three diameter classes, in Aiuruoca region, south Minas Gerais state. The two distinct reliefs correspond respectively to one section of the stand growing at 1,000m of altitude (Area 1) and another section growing at 1,100m of altitude (Area 2). In each section, 15 trees were felled from among 3 different diameter classes. Discs were removed from the base of each tree to estimate their age by doing growth ring count. Soil samples were taken and subjected to physical and chemical analysis. The logs were reduced into chips and random samples were taken for distillation to extract essential oil. The method used was steam distillation at a pressure of 2 kgf/cm2/2.5 h. The chemical analysis was performed in a gas chromatograph (GC) based on the alpha-bisabolol standard reference. The yield of essential oil from trees in Area 1 was higher than that from trees in Area 2, with the same pattern of influence for older trees. In Area 2, the alpha-bisabolol content was higher in younger trees. No differences were found between the relevant parameters in relation to diameter classes.
Análise de um projeto pedagógico em uma perspectiva semiótica e dialógica

Abstract: this paper intends to discuss the potentialities of a document analysis guide in a semiotic and dialogical approach. this methodology is being built and it is part of a broader study which the general target is to understand how an alternative graduation program generates possibilities of personal and professional growth for those teachers who work in the basic educational program. in this paper we present a discussion about the proceeding of a documental analysis which intends to investigate the present meanings in a document and to identify the several social voices that go through it. in this approach the document is seen as a powerful semiotic mediator which actively participates in the building up of meanings that are going to direct the social practices and the human development processes. the proceeding of the document analysis is discussed taking a semiotic approach as base granted by the historic-cultural psychology and by the dialogical approach of the speech. next we present the document analysis guide we built up and we end the discussion presenting an example of a semiotic and dialogical documental analysis based on the pedagogical project which is the object of our broader study. the proceedings adopted granted us a deeper understanding of the phenomenon in focus and contributed to deepen the discussion about the methodology of the document analysis as a strategy to the understanding of the human development processes.

Abstract: O abuso sexual é considerado problema de saúde pública e representa um desafio à ciência psicológica, principalmente devido a dificuldade de acesso, pois o tema é permeado por segredo e silêncio. Da perspectiva do desenvolvimento humano, faz-se necessário o uso de novas abordagens e metodologias que favore am a compreens o do fen meno de forma multifacetada e sistêmica. O artigo objetiva apresentar e discutir os pressupostos da Teoria Bioecológica do Desenvolvimento Humano desenvolvida por Urie Bronfenbrenner, refletindo sobre sua adequa o ao estudo do abuso sexual. S o reconhecidos aspectos críticos e éticos da abordagem bioecológica e estudos futuros s o sugeridos com base nas quest es emergentes ligadas ao abuso sexual. Sexual abuse is considered as a public health problem and represents a challenge to the psychological science, mainly because of the difficulty of access as it is surrounded by secrets and silence. Focusing human development, the use of new approaches and methodologies that favor the understanding of the phenomena in a systemic and multifaceted way is needed. The objective of the present article is to present and discuss Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory of Human Development presuppositions in the light of its adjustment to the study of sexual abuse. Critical and ethical aspects of the bioecological approach are recognized and future studies are suggested based on the emerging issues connected to sexual abuse.

Abstract: this article is based on a research aimed at analyzing conceptions around adolescence and human development mediating social educative interventions in the context of a social circus. participants: adolescents; technical staff; trainees; and, the researcher himself. the results were generated considering the following meaning complexes: (a) the potential of circus techniques as mediation tools in promoting innovative trajectories of human development; (b) personal improvements in the domain of tools and techniques as the focus of the follow up and evaluation process of the adolescent; (c) adolescence as a stage of life cycle; (d) social risk and vulnerability alternating as char acteristics of the subject or the context. the necessity that institutional agents search for a deeper comprehension of the process of personal transformation that takes place along adolescence is an important point of discussion.

Abstract: it is a commonly held position that culture plays a central role in the psychological development of human beings. considering the plural nature of the socio-institutional contexts that take part in the configuration of a specific cultural context, it becomes essential to investigate how the school culture participates in human development, how it influences the processes of change, and outlines typical trajectories. the present study looks into the school as a cultural context, and analyzes spontaneous interactions between students belonging to 5th and 6th grade classes during breaktime, with a view to understand how the school contributes to circumscribe a specific development process: the transition from childhood to adolescence. the method adopted here involved sessions of observation of daily activities in the classroom and in the schoolyard of a public school of fundamental education located in brazil's capital city. an episode taken as material for analysis consisted of a make-believe game played by a group of pupils during breaktime. the analysis of the episode reveals as its main themes the symbolic transgression of school rules, and the collectively built representations about adolescence. the analyses also point to two lines of reflection about the meaning of the transition to adolescence at school: (1) the role played by school rules in the moral regulation of the body, and in pupils' conducts; and (2) the role of games and adolescent experiences in the transformation of the disciplinary order imposed by the functioning of the schools.

Abstract: distance education has expanded in different educational levels, especially in higher education. such expansion points to the need to investigate and promote the quality of its learning processes. this paper explores the notion of intercognition and its potential as a category to analyze dialogic learning processes in the context of distance education. the study, based on empirical investigation, aimed to interpret learning potentials of the conversational dynamics interaction between teacher-tutors and students within discussion forums of a teacher education program. the focus was to understand the role of the teacher-tutors and identify indicators of intercognition within concrete verbal interactions. results show the significant relationship between the interlocutors' dialogic engagement and the quality of learning processes in distance learning, with indicators of intercognition characterized by active, frequent and pertinent participation of interlocutors in discussion forums.

Abstract: this work was carried out to survey the natural forest cover of the microregion of vi?osa-mg, brazil, in 1998, using landsat 5 images. it was found that: a) the natural forest cover comprises 57,310 ha (24.27% of the total area), from which 24,184.80 ha (10.24%) correspond to forest and 33,125.31 ha (14.03%) correspond to "(young secondary forest); b) the municipalities that have a natural forest cover below 20% are cajuri, coimbra, cana? and s?o miguel do anta, and those with a cover above 20% are pedra do anta, ervália, vi?osa, paula candido, teixeiras, porto firme and araponga; c) cajuri is the municipality with the smallest growth ratein forest area and araponga has the greatest growth rate; d) araponga is the municipality with the greatest forest area and coimbra has the smallest one, and e) the natural forest cover area had an increment of 13.60% from 1994 to 1998.
