Abstract: The Art Gallery Problem is one of the most well-known problems in Computational Geometry, with a rich history in the study of algorithms, complexity, and variants. Recently there has been a surge in experimental work on the problem. In this survey, we describe this work, show the chronology of developments, and compare current algorithms, including two unpublished versions, in an exhaustive experiment. Furthermore, we show what core algorithmic ingredients have led to recent successes.

Abstract: mineral deposit assessment is based on estimates of the attributes within the ore body, where the sampling of these attributes is usually obtained through cores from diamond drill holes. due to the high costs associated with drilling and sampling, the amount of drill holes is limited and their locations must be correctly defined to simultaneously maximize the uncertainty reduction related to the estimates and the confidence of the resource and reserve inventories. having posed the problem, this article presents a methodology for defining the ideal drill-hole grids for optimizing the distribution of resources according to their measured, indicated, and inferred classes. the method combines the estimation error and geological continuity through an indicator kriging approach. this methodology is currently used as a benchmark in all the ferrous resource classification done at the vale ferrous mine planning department, and a comprehensive case study was conducted in two different iron ore deposits demonstrating its robustness and applicability in any mineral inventory assessment.

Abstract: the conception of risk and its terminology, as well as its disciplinary approach, have changed over time. different approaches derived from natural, applied and social sciences have not yet prepared a solid and consistent theory of risk, thus hampering an effective management that facilitates the estimation and intervention of risk from a multidisciplinary perspective. likewise, risk cannot be seen only from an objective point of view when it comes to reducing its impact given the different interpretations and perspectives of different social actors. social perception of risk is one of the relevant factors in the natural risks field, since it incorporates these subjectivities, thus finding more realistic solutions in case of disaster. this paper evaluates this component in the case of la serena, located in the coquimbo region, through its relation with socioeconomic level, self-protection factors and self-management capacity in the face of a tsunami hazard caused by seismic activity in a country like chile, regarded as the most seismically active place in the world due to its location in the subduction and sliding zone between the nazca and south american plates. it is observed a clear segregation of socioeconomic strata in the districts of la compa?ía alta and intendencia, the most vulnerable areas. the results of this research indicate that risk perception is related to social aspects, thus verifying the social nature of risk.

Abstract: We obtained long-slit spectra of high signal-to-noise ratio of the galaxy M32 with the GMOS spectrograph at the GEMINI North telescope. We analysed the integrated spectra by means of full spectral fitting in order to extract the mixture of stellar populations that best represents its composite nature. Three different galactic radii were analysed, from the nuclear region out to 2 arcmin from the centre. This allows us to compare, for the first time, the results of integrated light spectroscopy with those of resolved colour-magnitude diagrams from the literature. As our main result, we propose that an ancient and an intermediate-age population coexist in M32, and that the balance between these two populations change between the nucleus and outside 1 effective radius in the sense that the contribution from the intermediate population is larger at the nuclear region. We retrieve a smaller signal of a young population at all radii whose origin is unclear and may be a contamination from horizontal-branch stars, such as the ones identified by Brown et al. in the nuclear region. We compare our metallicity distribution function for a region 1 to 2 arcmin from the centre to the one obtained with photometric data by Grillmair et al. Both distributions are broad, but our spectroscopically derived distribution has a significant component with $[Z/Z_{\sun}] \leq -1$, which is not found by Grillmair et al.
Acyclic orientations with path constraints

Computer Science , 2005, DOI: 10.1051/ro:2008028
Abstract: Many well-known combinatorial optimization problems can be stated over the set of acyclic orientations of an undirected graph. For example, acyclic orientations with certain diameter constraints are closely related to the optimal solutions of the vertex coloring and frequency assignment problems. In this paper we introduce a linear programming formulation of acyclic orientations with path constraints, and discuss its use in the solution of the vertex coloring problem and some versions of the frequency assignment problem. A study of the polytope associated with the formulation is presented, including proofs of which constraints of the formulation are facet-defining and the introduction of new classes of valid inequalities.

Revista INVI , 2012,
Social Development in a Game Context  [PDF]

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.512152
Abstract:

Social development is a fundamental subject that challenges professionals who work with children and teenagers. Questions such as how to behave adequately, what limits must be defined, and at the same time, how to stimulate autonomy and create a cooperative environment, are daily made, but solutions are not always satisfactory. The aim of this paper is to present a possible contribution to the discussion, describing highlights of a successful initiative. The practice in seeing children with learning disabilities at the Laboratory of Studies about Development and Learning (University of Sao Paulo), also identifies the same questions and there is a permanent search for creative solutions. For the last 25 years, groups of children from the Fundamental School were seen by professionals who organized activities in a game context, challenging them to play, develop reasoning and construct favourable attitudes. Results show that playing games in an intervention context stimulated changes in attitudes and social behaviour. As a consequence, it enabled children interact and establish a better quality of relation, based on cooperation and mutual respect.
