A Brief Review on Developing Creative Thinking in Young Children by Mind Mapping

Abstract: Mind mapping is a presentation form of radiant thinking, utilizing lines, colors, characters, numbers, symbols, image, pictures or keywords, etc. to associate, integrate and visualize the learned concept and evoke brain potential. Through mind maps, one’s attention, coordination ability, logic, reasoning, thinking, analyzing, creativity, imagination, memory, ability of planning and integration, speed reading, character, number, visuality, hearing, kinesthetic sense, sensation, etc. are significantly enhanced. “Picture” is not limited by nationality and language and is the best tool for young children to explore new things and learning. Because pictorial representation is one of the most primal human traits and drawing ability is better than writing ability in young children, learning and expressing through mind mapping prevents difficulties of writing, grammar and long description in children. Thus, this study reviews related researches to figure out whether mind mapping can be applied by young children to develop their creative thinking.

Abstract: Textbooks provide novice teachers with guidance in course and activity design; it assures a measure of structure, consistency, and logical progression in a class; It meets a learner’s needs or expectations of having something concrete to work from and take home for further study; It may provide multiple resources: tapes, CDs, videos, self-study workbooks etc. While the quality of ESL reading textbooks has improved dramatically in recent years, the process of selecting an appropriate text has not become any easier for most teachers and administrators. Thus, the paper discusses for evaluating reading textbooks for use in ESL/EFL classrooms. Classroom teachers spend much time using textbooks in class, so choosing an appropriate one is important. And the paper describes the role of the textbook. Using this will make the textbook selection process more efficient and more reliable.

Abstract: I propose a variable-free treatment of dynamic semantics. By "dynamic semantics" I mean analyses of donkey sentences ("Every farmer who owns a donkey beats it") and other binding and anaphora phenomena in natural language where meanings of constituents are updates to information states, for instance as proposed by Groenendijk and Stokhof. By "variable-free" I mean denotational semantics in which functional combinators replace variable indices and assignment functions, for instance as advocated by Jacobson. The new theory presented here achieves a compositional treatment of dynamic anaphora that does not involve assignment functions, and separates the combinatorics of variable-free semantics from the particular linguistic phenomena it treats. Integrating variable-free semantics and dynamic semantics gives rise to interactions that make new empirical predictions, for example "donkey weak crossover" effects.
A continuation semantics of interrogatives that accounts for Baker's ambiguity

Abstract: Wh-phrases in English can appear both raised and in-situ. However, only in-situ wh-phrases can take semantic scope beyond the immediately enclosing clause. I present a denotational semantics of interrogatives that naturally accounts for these two properties. It neither invokes movement or economy, nor posits lexical ambiguity between raised and in-situ occurrences of the same wh-phrase. My analysis is based on the concept of continuations. It uses a novel type system for higher-order continuations to handle wide-scope wh-phrases while remaining strictly compositional. This treatment sheds light on the combinatorics of interrogatives as well as other kinds of so-called A'-movement.

Boundary Conditions of Subharmonic Oscillations in Fixed-Switching-Frequency DC-DC Converters

Abstract: Design-oriented boundary conditions for subharmonic oscillations are of great interest recently. Based on a subharmonic oscillation boundary condition reported in a PhD thesis more than a decade ago, extended new boundary conditions are derived in closed forms for general switching DC-DC converters. Sampled-data and harmonic balance analyses are applied and generate equivalent results. It is shown that equivalent series resistance causes the boundary conditions for voltage/current mode control to have similar forms. Some recently reported boundary conditions become special cases in view of the general boundary conditions derived. New Nyquist-like design-oriented plots are proposed to predict or prevent the occurrence of the subharmonic oscillation. The relation between the crossover frequency and the subharmonic oscillation is also analyzed.
Sampled-Data and Harmonic Balance Analyses of Average Current-Mode Controlled Buck Converter

Abstract: Dynamics and stability of average current-mode control of buck converters are analyzed by sampled-data and harmonic balance analyses. An exact sampled-data model is derived. A new continuous-time model "lifted" from the sampled-data model is also derived, and has frequency response matched with experimental data reported previously. Orbital stability is studied and it is found unrelated to the ripple size of the current-loop compensator output. An unstable window of the current-loop compensator pole is found by simulations, and it can be accurately predicted by sampled-data and harmonic balance analyses. A new S plot accurately predicting the subharmonic oscillation is proposed. The S plot assists pole assignment and shows the required ramp slope to avoid instability.
Unified model of voltage/current mode control to predict saddle-node bifurcation

Abstract: A unified model of voltage mode control (VMC) and current mode control (CMC) is proposed to predict the saddle-node bifurcation (SNB). Exact SNB boundary conditions are derived, and can be further simplified in various forms for design purpose. Many approaches, including steady-state, sampled-data, average, harmonic balance, and loop gain analyses are applied to predict SNB. Each approach has its own merits and complement the other approaches.
Closed-Form Critical Conditions of Subharmonic Oscillations for Buck Converters

Abstract: A general critical condition of subharmonic oscillation in terms of the loop gain is derived. Many closed-form critical conditions for various control schemes in terms of converter parameters are also derived. Some previously known critical conditions become special cases in the generalized framework. Given an arbitrary control scheme, a systematic procedure is proposed to derive the critical condition for that control scheme. Different control schemes share similar forms of critical conditions. For example, both V2 control and voltage mode control have the same form of critical condition. A peculiar phenomenon in average current mode control where subharmonic oscillation occurs in a window value of pole can be explained by the derived critical condition. A ripple amplitude index to predict subharmonic oscillation proposed in the past research has limited application and is shown invalid for a converter with a large pole.
