The Measurement of Analysts’ Earnings Forecast Uncertainty  [PDF]

Abstract: Analysts’ earnings forecast began in the early 20th century in America, researchers and investors are especially interested in estimating uncertainty about future earnings, because it reveals important characteristics of the firm’s information prior to the release of accounting results. Since uncertainty is inherently unobservable, evaluating its estimates poses challenging methodological problems. As a result, researchers have put forward alternative proxies for earnings forecast uncertainty. Here, we will review the measurement used in the study of foreign scholars of analysts’ earnings forecast uncertainty, and make a comparison among various methods. Considering the background of information, prediction model and analysts cannot be expected to know the cause of the situation, GARCH as an ex ante measure, will be one of the most accurately measures of uncertainty. Studying the methods of analysts’ earnings forecast uncertainty will be conducive to market participants to understand the characteristics of analysts’ earnings forecast, so as to make more rational decisions.

Abstract: Based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research imports the degree of Computer Self-Efficacy, Resource Appropriateness, Superior Support and Convenience to Use into TAM, constructs Structural Equation Model to study the factors of teachers’ use intention of multimedia instruction resources among rural primary schools in Chongqing China. Structural Equation Modeling reveals that teachers’ resource using doesn't follow the TAM exactly. In one hand, the influence of Perceived Ease of Use is not notability, on the other hand, the Superior Support, Perceived Usefulness and Resource Appropriateness are very significantly, especially, the degree of Superior Support is the most important.
An Emotional Agent Model Based on Granular Computing

Abstract: Affective computing has a very important significance for fulfilling intelligent information processing and harmonious communication between human being and computers. A new model for emotional agent is proposed in this paper to make agent have the ability of handling emotions, based on the granular computing theory and the traditional BDI agent model. Firstly, a new emotion knowledge base based on granular computing for emotion expression is presented in the model. Secondly, a new emotional reasoning algorithm based on granular computing is proposed. Thirdly, a new emotional agent model based on granular computing is presented. Finally, based on the model, an emotional agent for patient assistant in hospital is realized, experiment results show that it is efficient to handle simple emotions.
Antennal epicuticular structure of camel crickets (Orthoptera: Rhaphidophoridae) for identifying the prey of Mustella sibrica Pallas  [PDF]

Abstract: Camel crickets (Orthoptera: Rhaphidophoridae) are a group of wingless and humpbacked Orthopteran insects. They are closed relatives to katydids and crickets; they were called spider crickets somewhere because of their long legs. Camel cricket plays an important role in the food web in various ecosystems. In the forest ecosystem, they live in the ground level of forestry under litters and fallen leaves, and some of them live beneath the log and hid themselves under loosen tree barks. They feed on decomposing organic substances and serve as decomposers in the food chain. It is a very common insect prey to insectivorous animals in natural and artificial vegetation. Guandaushi (GDS) is the experimental forest station of National Chung Hsing University, as the study site of long term ecological research (LTER) in Taiwan. And the camel cricket became an important subject and a dominant insect group in the LTER studies. They are the major parts of the insect preys of vertebrates, especially to the insectivorous mammals. According to our previous publication, 32.2% of the insect preys of Mustela sibirica Pallas are camel crickets in GDS forest ecosystem. There were 5 morpho-species of camel crickets by the characters of antennal epicuticular characters. The camel cricket was collected from various ways according to the LTER study during 1995-1998. The morphology of antennal epicuticular structure from totally 60 individuals was observed by using SEM. The epicuticular sculpture was described and classified into Type I and Type II by the SEM photographs. Type I has 8 patterns and Type II has 5 patterns in this study. The illustration and the pictorial key were provided here as the tool for further application. The morpho-species could not be identified due to the remainder being fragmented while examined. After the study, the SEM antennal epicuticular structures were classified and identified based upon the antennae sample of the morphospecies from the specimens of the 5 camel crickets which were collected from GDS forest ecosystem in this study. This is a part of the fundamental study for the protocol of ecosystem study. The protocol for identifying the insectivorous animal’s prey by the insect fragment of food remainders is necessary. One more, there were 7 of the 13 patterns of antennal epicuticular structure applied to analysis the 5 morpho-species provided as the case study for taxonomy.

Preparation and Characterization of Waterborne Polyurethaneurea Composed of Dimer Fatty Acid Polyester Polyol

Abstract: A series of polyurethaneurea (PUU) aqueous dispersions, which were stable at ambient temperature for more than 1 year, were prepared with C36-dimer-fatty-acid-based polyester polyol, isophorone diisocyanate, dimethylol propionic acid, and ethylenediamine. The particle size of all these PUU (DPU) aqueous dispersions (<100 nm) was less than that of comparable specimens, that is, poly-(neopentyl glycol adipate) polyester-polyol-based PUU (APU) aqueous dispersions, and the polydispersity index was very narrow (≤1.13). The films prepared with the DPU aqueous dispersions exhibited excellent waterproof performance, such as low amount of water absorption (1.3 wt%), and good mechanical properties (hardness and tensile strength), resulting from the strong hydrogen bonding in urea carbonyl groups and the perfect ordered structure of hard segments compared with those prepared with the APU aqueous dispersions. The surface hydrophobicity of the films prepared with modified DPU aqueous dispersions, which were modified with a fluorinated polyacrylate emulsion, was excellent, as the water contact angle on the surface of such films rose up to 100. The mechanical properties of such modified DPU films were further enhanced.
Preparation and evaluation of Zr-β-FeOOH for efficient arsenic removal

Abstract: A Zr-β-FeOOH adsorbent for both As(V) and As(III) removal was prepared by a chemical co-precipitation method. Compared with β-FeOOH, the addition of Zr enhanced the adsorption capacities for As(V) and As(III), especially As(III). The maximum adsorption capacities for As(III) and As(V) were 120 and 60 mg/g respectively at pH 7.0, much higher than for many reported adsorbents. The adsorption data accorded with Freundlich isotherms. At neutral pH, for As(V), adsorption equilibrium was approached after 3 hr, while for As(III), adsorption equilibrium was approached after 5 hr. Kinetic data fitted well to the pseudo second-order reaction model. As(V) elimination was favored at acidic pH, whereas the adsorption of As(III) by Zr-β-FeOOH was found to be effective over a wide pH range of 4-10. Competitive anions hindered the adsorption according to the sequence: phosphate > silicate > bicarbonate > sulfate > nitrate, while Ca2+ and Mg2+ increased the removal of As(III) and As(V) slightly. The high adsorption capability and good performance in other aspects make Zr-β-FeOOH a potentially attractive adsorbent for the removal of both As(III) and As(V) from water.

New Darboux Transformation for Hirota-Satsuma coupled KdV System

Abstract: A new Darboux transformation is presented for the Hirota-Satsuma coupled KdV system. It is shown that this Darboux transformation can be constructed by means of two methods: Painlev\'{e} analysis and reduction of a binary Darboux transformation. By iteration of the Darboux transformation, the Grammian type solutions are found for the coupled KdV system.
Decouple a coupled KdV system of Nutku and Oguz

Abstract: A coupled KdV system with a free parameter proposed by Nutku and O\~{g}uz is considered. It is shown that the system passes the WTC's Painlev\'{e} test for arbitrary value of the parameter. A further analysis yields that the parameter can be scaled away and the system can be decoupled.
