Abstract: In this work we have developed an analytical method to measure potential titanium debris released from TiO2 nanotube layers devices immersed in biological fluids. This quantitative study is highly required to ensure both the security and non toxicity of the nanostructured surfaces used as future implantable medical devices in the living. A one-pot synthesis process is developed to produce high quality standard solutions of titanium dioxide nanoparticles in aqueous medium. The elaborated dispersion is then used to fabricate standard solutions in both aqueous and human blood plasma media. The synthesized nanoparticles dispersion was characterized by granulometry. The nanoparticles structure and morphology were then observed using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) was used to evaluate the concentration of TiO2 in the suspension. A quantitative routine by the use of Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES) is developed. The quantification threshold of titanium species is found to be in the 30 - 40 ppb range. None interference is detected between the particles and the human blood plasma. Using the established quantitative routine, the titanium species release from titania nanotube layers in human blood plasma is evaluated.
Ontology-based collaborative framework for disaster recovery scenarios

Abstract: This paper aims at designing of adaptive framework for supporting collaborative work of different actors in public safety and disaster recovery missions. In such scenarios, firemen and robots interact to each other to reach a common goal; firemen team is equipped with smart devices and robots team is supplied with communication technologies, and should carry on specific tasks. Here, reliable connection is mandatory to ensure the interaction between actors. But wireless access network and communication resources are vulnerable in the event of a sudden unexpected change in the environment. Also, the continuous change in the mission requirements such as inclusion/exclusion of new actor, changing the actor's priority and the limitations of smart devices need to be monitored. To perform dynamically in such case, the presented framework is based on a generic multi-level modeling approach that ensures adaptation handled by semantic modeling. Automated self-configuration is driven by rule-based reconfiguration policies through ontology.
Context-aware adaptation for group communication support applications with dynamic architecture

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a refinement-based adaptation approach for the architecture of distributed group communication support applications. Unlike most of previous works, our approach reaches implementable, context-aware and dynamically adaptable architectures. To model the context, we manage simultaneously four parameters that influence Qos provided by the application. These parameters are: the available bandwidth, the exchanged data communication priority, the energy level and the available memory for processing. These parameters make it possible to refine the choice between the various architectural configurations when passing from a given abstraction level to the lower level which implements it. Our approach allows the importance degree associated with each parameter to be adapted dynamically. To implement adaptation, we switch between the various configurations of the same level, and we modify the state of the entities of a given configuration when necessary. We adopt the direct and mediated Producer- Consumer architectural styles and graphs for architecture modelling. In order to validate our approach we elaborate a simulation model.

Levosimendan no tratamento da contus o miocárdica grave pós-trauma torácico fechado: relato de caso = Levosimendan treatment for severe myocardial contusion after blunt chest trauma: case report

Abstract: Introdu o: a contus o miocárdica é causada usualmente por trauma torácico fechado, principalmente em pacientes com história de acidente de carro ou moto. Os pacientes com manifesta es clínicas graves devem manejados com intuba o, reposi o volêmica, vasopressor e inotrópicos. O levosimendan é uma nova droga com a o inodilatadora, que age sensibilizando os canais de cálcio. O objetivo deste relato é documentar o tratamento de um caso de choque cardiogênico secundário a contus o miocárdica, com resposta favorável ao uso deste fármaco. Descri o do caso: paciente feminina, 28 anos, vítima de acidente de carro, interna com quadro de politraumatismo. Após corre o cirúrgica de fratura de fêmur e tíbia apresentou dois episódios de parada cardiorrespiratória, evoluindo com deteriora o hemodinamica progressiva manifestada por quadro de choque cardiogênico, necessitando de monitoriza o invasiva, suporte ventilatório e hemodinamico. Após 24 horas foi iniciada infus o de levosimendan, devido à resposta inadequada aos inotrópicos tradicionais. A paciente evoluiu com melhora clínica, recebendo alta da unidade de terapia intensiva. Conclus o: na literatura existem dados que indicam a utiliza o de levosimendan na insuficiência cardíaca descompensada. Estudos experimentais e pequenos ensaios clínicos tem despertado o interesse na utiliza o de levosimendan para melhora da fun o miocárdica em pacientes com cardiopatia isquêmica, choque cardiogênico e choque séptico. Porém, ainda n o há relatos sobre a sua utiliza o em contus o miocárdica. Introduction: Cardiac contusion is usually caused by blunt chest trauma and therefore is frequently suspected in patients involved in car or motorcycle accidents. In patients with severe clinical manifestations, management with intubation, fluids, vasopressors, and inotropes is the treatment of choice. Levosimendan is a new inodilator agent that is reported to increase calcium sensitivity in myocardium. The purpose of this report is to describe a successful treatment with levosimendan in a case of myocardial contusion associated with cardiogenic shock. Case description: A 28-years-old woman victim of a motor vehicle accident, was admitted to the hospital with diagnosis of polytrauma. After she was submitted to surgical treatment fracture of tIbia and femur, she developed cardiac arrest twice with progressive hemodynamic deterioration with cardiogenic shock. She was managed with invasive monitoring, hemodynamic and ventilatory support. After twenty four hours, levosimendan infusion was initiated because there was not improvment

O projeto gráfico de revistas: uma análise dos dez anos da revista Capricho

The Influence of Feeding Regimen on the Composition of the Fat Pads in the Bovine Digital Cushion  [PDF]

Abstract: The effect of an intensive/extensive feeding regimen on lipid content and fatty acid composition of the bovine digital cushion was investigated in 32 beef cattle of both genders, divided in 2 groups (16 per intensive/extensive feeding). The beef cattle were calves of different suckler cow husbandries. After the separation from their mothers at the age of 10 months, they were differently fed for 5 months. The animals were slaughtered at the age of 15 months with a mean body weight of 450 kg. The macroscopic claw examination of all beef cattle was made at two defined claws at the beginning of the trial and after slaughter. For applicatory reasons, the fat pads of the claws could only be prepared after slaughter. Samples from fat pads at defined locations of the digital cushion were analysed for lipid content and fatty acid composition determination. Additionally, samples from the digital cushions and few samples of subcutaneous tissue of 9 dairy cows served as comparison. These slaughterhouse cows were mainly fed with hay and grass; further data however were not available. The digital fat pads and the subcutaneous fat of both groups showed obvious differences in the fat content and the fatty acid composition. The fat pads of the intensive fed animals contained fewer lipids and more omega-6-fatty acids. The extensive fed animals had distinctly more omega-3-fatty acids. In the subcutaneous fat of the intensive fed animals, more omega-6-fatty could be found and more omega-3-fatty acids in the extensive fed animals. These results indicate that the feeding can influence the lipid content and the fatty acid composition. The macroscopic hoof horn quality grade of the intensive fed group was better than the extensive fed group. The digital pads of the dairy cows contained more lipids, more monounsaturated fatty acids and less omega-6-fatty acids.
