Abstract: We have demonstrated that 80% of primer pairs defined on each side of SSR motifs in M. truncatula EST database amplify with the alfalfa DNA. Using a F1 mapping population of 168 individuals produced from the cross of 2 heterozygous parental plants from Magali and Mercedes cultivars, we obtained 599 AFLP markers and 107 SSR loci. All but 3 SSR loci showed a clear tetrasomic inheritance. For most of the SSR loci, the double-reduction was not significant. For the other loci no specific genotypes were produced, so the significant double-reduction could arise from segregation distortion. For each parent, the genetic map contained 8 groups of four homologous chromosomes. The lengths of the maps were 2649 and 3045 cM, with an average distance of 7.6 and 9.0 cM between markers, for Magali and Mercedes parents, respectively. Using only the SSR markers, we built a composite map covering 709 cM.Compared to diploid alfalfa genetic maps, our maps cover about 88–100% of the genome and are close to saturation. The inheritance of the codominant markers (SSR) and the pattern of linkage repulsions between markers within each homology group are consistent with the hypothesis of a tetrasomic meiosis in alfalfa. Except for 2 out of 107 SSR markers, we found a similar order of markers on the chromosomes between the tetraploid alfalfa and M. truncatula genomes indicating a high level of colinearity between these two species. These maps will be a valuable tool for alfalfa breeding and are being used to locate QTLs.Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is the most cultivated forage legume, with about 32 millions hectares over the world [1]. Its agronomical interest is based on its high protein content, suitable feeding value and favourable environmental balance (perenniality and no nitrogen fertilizer required). However the genetic progress in this species is slow because of its autotetraploidy [2], with 2n = 4x = 32 [3,4], its allogamy and the synthetic structure of the varieties. The development o

Abstract: in the process of the construction of the salta termoandes thermoelectrical power station s.a. and its feeding gas pipe, we participate in one of the instances of the environmental impact studies and in an archaeological rescue. as a consequence of this experience, we present the results obtained, which include methodological aspects and the interpretation of the archaeological record localized and rescued. we, as professionals, should cover the necessities of the management of our archaeological heritage. in this direction, we should make an effort to adequate theory, methodology and technology in the solution of practical problems involved in all the stages of the e.i.s. we suggest the formation, in an academic level, of specialists who could develop both basic research and managment of archaeological resources.
EL PARTIDO COMUNISTA ITALIANO Y EL OTRO "COMPROMESSO STORICO": LOS SIGNIFICADOS POLíTICOS DE LA SOLIDARIDAD CON CHILE (1973-1977)
Santoni,Alessandro;
Historia (Santiago) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-71942010000200006
Abstract: this article deals with the theme of solidarity with the chilean exile in italy from the years 1973-1977. many of the leaders of the actual concertación have insisted on the influence that eurocommunism, gramscism, and the "compromesso storico" had during the renovation of the left. along this line the author highlights how the italian communists had a specific political interest for the cause of the exiled, which resulted in the effort to influence the contents and the meanings of the solidarity and not only with material help. the focus adopted looks to relate the theme of la renovación with the processes of transformation that lived within leftist europeans from the seventies and especially, with the symbolic role that they attributed to the chilean cause.
Ecosistema urbano -psicología: interacciones espacio - subjetividad
Santoni,Mariana;
Multequina , 2009,
Abstract: this contribution seeks to articulate the issue of urban ecosystems with some aspects of psychology. it is a descriptive approach to the problem, based on anthropological and psychological contributions to urban ecology. some relationships between the notion of space and the concept of subjectivity are presented. multiple-causality is suggested between space and subjectivity: specific characteristics and particularities of space will affect the subjectivity of inhabitants. also, subjectivity of individuals or groups will have an incidence on space, particularly regarding its appropriation and use. the notion of symbolized space is introduced, and ague’s concepts are followed in the transition from places to non-places. globalization is analyzed in relation to its effects on fragmentation of social relations. proliferation of non-places in the current historical context will impact at both the levels of subjectivity constitution and new contemporary pathologies (depressive disorders, panic attacks, feelings of emptiness and solitude, isolation, diverse addictive behaviours, alimentary dysfunctions, and difficulty to establish social relations). the proposal is to re-think the construction and recovery of spaces likely to facilitate and promote social links between the inhabitants.

Francesca Santoni
Scrineum Rivista , 2004,
Abstract: Considering once again a text like the well known and often studied ‘placito di Garfagnolo’ may allow us to focus on some mosaic tesserae, but even so the layout of this mosaic is still enigmatic. In a dialectic pattern between German law (normation by palatine Capitularia as well as juridical tradition, custom and rites) and Roman law (transmitted through the cultural mediation of the Church, but also rediscovered and reconsidered in the last decades of XI century), between solemn oaths and judiciary duels on one hand, and allegations of written law as well as royal and imperial documents on the other hand, we discover falsified documents produced in trial as evidences of proof, written by a well-read, highly capable scribe, still unknown to us, most certainly connected with Reggio Emilia’s bishopric.
Sequence-dependent DNA helical rise and nucleosome stability

BMC Molecular Biology , 2009, DOI: 10.1186/1471-2199-10-105
Abstract: We analyzed helical steps in known nucleosomal DNA sequences, observing a significant relationship between their symmetric distribution and nucleosome stability. Synthetic DNA sequences able to form stable nucleosomes were used to compare distances on the left and on the right side of the nucleosomal dyad axis, where DNA phosphates and charged residues of the (H3H4)2-tetramer interact. We observed a linear relationship between coincidence of distances and nucleosome stability, i. e., the more symmetric these distances the more stable the nucleosome.Curves related to this symmetric distribution along the DNA sequence identify preferential sites for positioning of the dyad axis, which we termed palinstases. The comparison of our data with known nucleosome positions in archaeal and eukaryotic sequences shows many coincidences of location. Sequences that impair nucleosome formation and DNase I hypersensitive sites yield curves with a lower degree of symmetry. Analysis performed on DNA tracts of promoters close to the transcription start and termination sites identified peculiar patterns: in particular low affinity for nucleosome binding at the transcription start site and a high affinity exactly at the transcription termination site, suggesting a major role of nucleosomes in the termination of transcription.The role played by the DNA sequence in determining preferred positions of individual nucleosomes has been studied using both experimental and theoretical approaches. Several global assessments of nucleosome positioning have been described in yeast [1-4], in Caenorhabditis elegans [5,6], in Drosophila [7] and in humans [8-13]. Experimental mapping of nucleosomes has been performed mainly by micrococcal nuclease digestion followed either by ligation-mediated PCR analysis or by DNA microarray-based methods. Theoretical models used for nucleosome-positioning prediction include probabilistic models [1], the comparative genomics approach [14], the support vector machine cl

Abstract: Aims and background: we evaluate CT-3Tesla MRI fusion in conformal radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer.Methods: 18 consecutive patients underwent a 3T MRI scan under radiotherapy planning conditions, after the CT scan. Bowel and bladder preparation were prescribed. CT and MR images were automatically fused; prostate and seminal vesicles were contoured on CT and on MRI, organs at risk were defined on CT-MRI fusion. Late rectal and sexual toxicity, differences in target volume between MRI and CT and differences in rectal and penile bulb dose distribution based on CT only or on CT-MRI fusion were evaluated.Results: one patient experienced a late rectal toxicity; no patient had sexual toxicity. The difference between the mean MRI and CT target volumes was statistically significant (p = 0.0001 paired Student's t-test). The dose-volume histogram (DVH) analysis shows a significant reduction of the dose received by the rectum and the penile bulb in MRI-plans compared to CT-plans.Conclusions: 3 Tesla MRI scan under radiotherapy planning conditions along with bowel preparation significantly improves the definition of the target volume sparing normal tissue irradiation.
