Systematic search for gamma-ray emitting molecular clouds in the vicinity of supernova remnants
Stephanie H?ffner,Ira Jung,Christian Stegmann
Physics , 2013,
Abstract: Observations of very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray emission from supernova remnants (SNR) established them as sources of accelerated particles up to energies of 100 TeV. The dominant process - leptonic or hadronic - responsible for the VHE emission is still not proven for most of the SNRs. Molecular clouds (MCs) in the vicinity of SNRs provide increased amount of target material for accelerated particles escaping the SNRs, thus making MCs potential gamma-ray sources. The predicted gamma-ray flux for MCs offset from the SNR shock depends on the applied diffusion model for VHE particles and the SNR and MC properties, which encounter large uncertainties. While the the average galactic diffusion coefficient is estimated, the spatially resolved propagation properties of VHE cosmic rays are unknown. gamma-ray emitting MCs provide a unique possibility to derive new information on the propagation of VHE particles through the ISM and on the acceleration of hadrons at SNRs. We present in this paper a strategy and first results of a systematic search for TeV gamma-ray emitting MCs in the vicinity of SNRs in the galactic plane region. Based on a theoretical model and current SNR and MC catalogues the detectable parameter space (e.g. diffusion coefficient, SNR age) for current Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope systems (IACTs) is obtained. This allows to identify potential gamma-ray emitting regions.
The Crystal Structure of PPIL1 Bound to Cyclosporine A Suggests a Binding Mode for a Linear Epitope of the SKIP Protein
Christian M. Stegmann,Reinhard Lührmann,Markus C. Wahl
PLOS ONE , 2012, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0010013
Abstract: The removal of introns from pre-mRNA is carried out by a large macromolecular machine called the spliceosome. The peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase PPIL1 is a component of the human spliceosome and binds to the spliceosomal SKIP protein via a binding site distinct from its active site.
Juta's Concise Dictionary of Accounting Terms with their Afrikaans Equivalents
N Stegmann
Lexikos , 2000,
Sleutelwoorde: unieke posisie, verklarings van algemeen aanvaarde rekenkundige praktyk (gaap), gekodifiseerde gaap, internasionaliseringsproses, verouderde terme, onvoldoende omskrywings, aangepaste omskrywings, nuwe terminologie

The third edition of the dictionary was composed in 1996 at which time the standardization process of terms was in the middle of an intemationalisation process. Most of the South African Statements of Generally Accepted Accounting Practice which serves as guideline for accounting were revised and brought into compliance with the International Accounting Standards Committee's regulations. As accounting terminology is determined by these Statements of Gellerally Accepted Accounting Practice, a large part of the terms in the dictionary is outdated. Because any author of an accounting text book is defenceless against such changes, the reviewer attempted to identify terms that have since been changed or not been used in accounting preViously. The dictionary is a helpful tool for anybody interested in the terminology used in accounting, but will be especially useful for students who need to acquaint themselves with the technical language of accounting, Keywords: UNIQUE POSITION, STATEMENTS OF GENERALLY ACCEPTED ACCOUNTING PRACTICE (GAAP), CODIFIED GAAP, INTERNATIONALISATION PROCESS, ANTIQUATED TERMS, INSUFFICIENT DESCRIPTIONS, MODIFIED DESCRIPTIONS, NEW TERMINOLOGY
Research at UNIS - The University Centre in Svalbard. A bibliometric study
Johannes Stegmann
Computer Science , 2014,
Abstract: The scientific output 1994-2014 of the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) was bibliometrically analysed. It was found that the majority of the papers have been published as international cooperations and rank above world average. Analysis of the content of the papers reveals that UNIS works and publishes in a wide variety of scientific topics.
Paradigm shifts. Part I. Collagen. Confirming and complementing the work of Henry Small
Johannes Stegmann
Computer Science , 2014,
Abstract: The paradigm shift in collagen research during the early 1970s marked by the discovery of the collagen precursor molecule procollagen was traced using co-citation analysis and title word frequency determination, confirming previous work performed by Henry Small.
Paradigm shifts. Part II. Reverse Transcriptase. Analysis of reference stability and word frequencies
Johannes Stegmann
Computer Science , 2014,
Abstract: The reverse transcription paradigm shift in RNA tumor virus research marked by the discovery of the reverse transcriptase in 1970 was traced using co-citation and title word frequency analysis. It is shown that this event is associated with a break in citation patterns and the occurrence of previously unknown technical terms.
Gentherapie bei kardiovaskul ren Erkrankungen
Stegmann TJ,Hoppert T
Observations on some cardiopulmonary effects of midazolam, xylazine and a midazolam / ketamine combination in the goat
G.F. Stegmann
Journal of the South African Veterinary Association , 2012, DOI: 10.4102/jsava.v70i3.771
Abstract: Xylazine, midazolam and a midazolam / ketamine combination were administered to 6 goats in a randomised 3-way block design. All goats received all treatments with at least a 7-day interval between treatments. Statistically significant (P < 0.05) changes were observed in some of the measured cardiopulmonary variables for xylazine and midazolam/ ketamine. Xylazine administration resulted in statistically significant decreases in minute volume, arterial partial pressure of oxygen, heart rate andmeanarterial blood pressure. The increase in arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide was not statistically significant. For the midazolam / ketamine combination, the decrease in tidal volume was statistically significant, but not the decrease in minute volume and increase in arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide. The decrease in the arterial partial pressure of oxygen was also statistically significant. The mean arterial blood pressure for the combination was statistically significantly higher compared to xylazine. The changes in cardiopulmonary variables after midazolam administration were not statistically significant, such as tidal and minute volume, arterial partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide. However, clinically significant effects such as hypoventilation and hypoxia were observed after its administration. The change in mean arterial blood pressure was minimal.
