Intensive Forestry as Progress or Decay? An Analysis of the Debate about Forest Fertilization in Sweden, 1960–2010
Anna Lindkvist,?rjan Kardell,Christer Nordlund
Forests , 2011, DOI: 10.3390/f2010112
Abstract: In the mid-1960s, fertilization (with nitrogen) had a breakthrough as a promising forest management method in Swedish company owned forests. The activity grew and peaked during the 1970s but then lost ground and stabilized at a low level in the 1990s and early 2000s. Over the last five years, however, interest in fertilizing Swedish forests has increased again. In this article both the forestry industry’s, and the environmental movement’s, attitudes toward forest fertilization over time are investigated. Furthermore, conflicting persistent ideas about nature and future, i.e., “figures of thought”, within interest groups, representing forestry and the environmental movement respectively, are identified and analyzed in relation to the debate on fertilization. The analysis reveals mainly three figures of thought that have influenced this debate during the period, “the idea of progress”, “the idea of decay” and “the idea of the great chain of being”. The study thus sheds light on how the relationship between forestry and the environmental movement has evolved from the 1960s until today and uncovers thought patterns that have stood, and continue to stand, in opposition to one another.
From Theory to Practice—When and How to Implement Service Value Agreement  [PDF]
Merat Ziyarazavi, Christer Magnusson
Journal of Service Science and Management (JSSM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jssm.2013.61013
Abstract:

Traditionally, a Service Level Agreement (SLA) is used as an appendix in IT Service Management agreements to set expectations and delineate the service delivery description as well as the terms and conditions of delivery. However, SLAs are unable to imply and guarantee the added values expected by the customer. Service Value Agreement (SVA) is a newly developed framework that identifies the deliverable added values along with metrics to measure the quality and quantity of achievements in terms of business added values. The objective of this study is to expand the concept of SVA for Application Management (AM) services and suggest guidelines for its implementation in real business cases. This goal is fulfilled through the case study approach and outsourcing industry contributions. Authors suggest discussing the concept of SVA from early stages of the sales lifecycle and implementing it gradually during the steady state phase. Combination of Service Value Mapping approach and Piloting method is suggested for SVA proposition as an option with successful practical history.

Rusmiddelbruk i Norge
Sturla Nordlund
Norsk Epidemiologi , 2009,
Nordlund S. The use of alcohol and other drugs in Norway. Solar Twins and Possible Solutions of the Solar and Jupiter Abundance Problems
A. Nordlund
Physics , 2009,
Abstract: Implications of the recently discovered systematic abundance difference between the Sun and two collections of `solar twins' are discussed. The differences can be understood as an imprint on the abundances of the solar convection zone caused by the lock-up of heavy elements in the planets. Such a scenario also leads naturally to possible solutions of two other abundance peculiarities; 1) the discrepancy between photospheric abundances derived from accurate 3-D models of the solar photosphere and the abundance of heavy elements in the solar interior deduced from helioseismology, and 2) the abundance pattern of Jupiter, which can either--with great difficulty--be interpreted as a general and similar overabundance of both common elements such as carbon, nitrogen and sulphur and rare inert gases such as argon, krypton and xenon, or--much more simply--as an under-abundance of hydrogen.
Magnetic dissipation: Spatial and temporal structure
Aake Nordlund
Physics , 2002,
Abstract: A magnetically dominated plasma driven by motions on boundaries at which magnetic field lines are anchored is forced to dissipate the work being done upon it, no matter how small the electrical resistivity. Numerical experiments have clarified that dissipation is achieved through the formation of a hierarchy of electrical current sheets. The probability distribution function of the local winding of magnetic field lines is nearly Gaussian, with a width of the order unity. The dissipation is highly irregular in space and time, but the average level of dissipation is well described by a scaling law that is independent of the electrical resistivity. If the boundary driving is suspended for a period of time the magnetic dissipation rapidly drops to insignificant levels, leaving the magnetic field in a nearly force-free state. Renewed boundary driving leads to a quick return to dissipation levels compatible with the rate of boundary work, with dissipation starting much more rapidly than when starting from idealized initial conditions with a uniform magnetic field. Application of these concepts to the solar corona lends credibility to realistic, three-dimensional numerical models that predict emission measures, coronal structures, and heating rates compatible with observations.
O que nossos pacientes querem e necessitam saber sobre transtorno de ansiedade generalizada?
Allgulander, Christer;
Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-44462006005000023
Abstract: persons with generalized anxiety disorder often do not seek treatment, and if they do, it is more often for the somatic symptoms (muscle tension, insomnia) or for a secondary depression than because of the cardinal feature of generalized anxiety disorder: worry. the worry aspect becomes apparent when the patient is proposed to try anxiolytic medication. the physician will then need to be prepared to answer many questions regarding the potential hazards and benefits of such medication. these patients tend to have a sceptical attitude, having informed themselves on websites that display claims that are based on anything from evidence-based scientific guidelines to distorted, erroneous and unfounded allegations. which are the frequent questions that worried patients pose to the physician before accepting anxiolytic pharmacotherapy? having seen anxious patients in my practice during 25 years, and having conducted several clinical trials of anxiolytics i have put together evidence-based answers in plain language to these questions in this paper.

John Locke och familjens makt ver uppfostran

Utbildning & Demokrati : Tidsskrift f?r Didaktik och Utbildningspolitik , 2007,
Abstract: JOHN LOCKE AND THE POWER OF THE FAMILY OVER EDUCATION. Who deserves author-ity over education? Plato was convinced that it was the state. Locke insisted onthe family. Mill, from his own hard-won experience, was convinced that theindividual should have more influence than the family. Of course, childrenhad to be compelled to learn basics; otherwise their freedom would be re-duced. John Locke lived in a time of growing capital formation. He defendedthe right of ownership as a fundamental human right. According to him, itfollowed from the right to life. Property was created through work, and workwas a way of using life. Parents had to have the decisive influence on educa-tion. They needed to be convinced that their heirs would manage their inher-itance in a responsible way. Locke is regarded as a father of democracy. How-ever, it can hardly be claimed that he was a promoter of democracy in educa-tion. His defence of private property led him to ascribe so much power overeducation to parents that individual rights were substantially curtailed.

Achrysocharoides Girault (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae) new to tropical America, with eight new species
Christer Hansson
ZooKeys , 2012, DOI: 10.3897/zookeys.173.2653
Abstract: The genus Achrysocharoides Girault is here reported for the first time from tropical America. Included are ten species, eight newly described: A. asperulus, A. callisetosus, A. cuspidatus, A. foveatus, A. infuscus, A. mediocarinatus, A. purpureus, A. sulcatus, and two already known: A. ecuadorensis (Hansson) and A. gliricidiae (Hansson & Cave). All species are included in an identification key, diagnosed, described and illustrated. Only one of the species, A. gliricidiae, has a host record, an endoparasitoid in a leafmining Gracillariidae (Lepidoptera) on Gliricidia sepium (Fabaceae), thus conforming to the biology of extralimital Achrysocharoides species. The genus Kratoysma Bou ek is here established as a junior synonym of Achrysocharoides, and the following species previously in Kratoysma are here recombined to Achrysocharoides: K. citri Bou ek, K. ecuadorensis Hansson, K. gliricidiae Hansson & Cave, K. longifacies Hansson, K. nepalensis Hansson, Derostenus usticrus Erd s.
