Abstract: Using the calculation of thermodynamicequilibria in multicomponent systems,two ternaryphase diagrams,Ni-Cr-Mo and Ni-Cr-Co,havebeen calculated by optimizing the Gibbs free ener-gies with respect to phase diagrams andthermodynamic data.On the basis of this calcula-tion,the occurrence of σ-phase in the residual solidsolution of commercial Ni-base superalloys,IN-713C and U-700,has been predicted.The re-sults show that the calculation of phase equilibria issuccessful in the prediction of the occurrence of theσ-phase.
Effects of Nitrogen Concentration on Microstructure and Antibacterial Property of Copper-Bearing Austenite Stainless Steels

Abstract: Austenite antibacterial stainless steels have been found to have wide applications in hospitals and food indus-tries. In recent years epsilon copper precipitation in antibacterial stainless steels has obtained much research interest due to its antibacterial action. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of nitro-gen concentration on the precipitation of epsilon copper and antibacterial property. Two kinds of austenite antibacterial stainless steels containing copper and different nitrogen concentration (0.02 and 0.08 wt pct, re-spectively) were prepared and the microstructures were characterized by a combination of electron microscopy and thermodynamic analysis. A mathematical expression was deduced to predict the effect of nitrogen con-centration on the activity coefficient of copper, In(fCu/focu)=0.53524 4.11xN-0.48x2N. Higher nitrogen was found to increase the free energy difference of copper concentration distribution between precipitation phase and austenite matrix, stimulate the aggregation of copper atoms from austenite, increase the precipitation amount and consequently enhance the antibacterial property of steel.

Abstract: A new type of hot-rolled transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steel with 2.3%Al was developed to replace conventional Si-bearing TRIP steel to improve surface quality of the steel sheet. The relationship between retained austenite volume fraction and hot-rolling processing was researched by Gleeble-2000 thermo-dynamic test for the Al-bearing steel. The experimental result showed that aluminum played an important role on retaining austenite and the volume fraction increased from 4.4% to 7.5% as coiling temperature increased from 350℃ to 450℃, while coiling temperature had a stronger effect on retaining austenite than finishing rolling temperature.

Abstract: The advanced hot-rolled transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steel with high tensile strength of 775 MPa,high elongation of 29% and low ductile-brittle transmission temperature less than -80℃ has been developed in laboratory based on the common silicon and manganese chemical composition. The experimental results showed that the microstructures were featured with ultra fine grain size less than 5μm, appropriate retained austenite volume fraction around 11.8% andpurified ferrite grain, which may result in well balanced mechanical properties for the steel.

Abstract: Observations of microstructure of explosive compacts made of Al or Al-Li alloy powders by atomization with water,nitrogen or ultrasoic Ar gas were carried out under optical and scanning electron microscopes.The rsults indicate that super quality explosive compact can only be obtained by powders of which the thickness of the oxide layer is less than 30 nm.

Abstract: The accurate phase boundary of MgAION/(AIN+MgAION) in MgO-AIN-Al2O3 ternary system, has not been determined precisely so far. In the present study, the lattice parameters of MgAION solid solution with various compositions were determined precisely with X-ray powder diffraction. According to the relationship between the lattice parameters of MgAION solid solution and the contents of AIN and MgO, the phase boundaries of MgAION/(AIN+MgAION) in MgO-AIN-AI2O3 ternary system at 1600℃ and 1700℃ were precisely determined.

Abstract: The interaction coefficients of Ca.Ti and Mg in the dilute Sn-based solution have been de-termined at 1500℃.Experimental measurements were taken by equilibrating the slag-alloysystems with metallic Sn as flux and graphite as reducing agent under Ar atmosphere mixedwith different portion of CO.It was found that a considerable error may produce if thecoefficients of ε_(Ca)~(Ca),ε_(Mg)~(Mg)and ε_(Ti)~(Ti)in the molten Sn were neglected when the activities of thecomponents CaO,MgO and TiO_2 in the slags were estimated by this method.

Abstract: The calculation of electronic structure of γ'-Ni_3Al phase with or without Mg and W by theRecursion and LCAO methods clarified that Mg and W atoms lose their outer electrons par-tially after they entered γ'-Ni_3Al.It causes the reduction of the radii of the atoms.So it ispreferable for Mg atom to enter γ'-phase by the substitution.The interaction between Mg andγ'-phase matrix may be strengthened and a more stable structure of γ'-phase may be formedwhile Mg and W entered γ'-Ni_3Al simultaneously.
