Abstract: A mixed method of solution for contact stresses on rollers was suggested by the combina- tion of similitude principle.photoelastic method,Hertz's contact theory and numerical calculation.Thus,not only the distribution regularity of axial contact pressure on roller of limited length,but also the three-dimensional solution of stresses in the contact po- sitions may be obtained.An actual example is presented in the paper.It shows that the practical damaged phenomenon in real roller is in agreement with the result of the analysis

Abstract: Background: Retrospective comparison of stent patency and survival of patients with unresectable extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) treated by placement of self-expanding metal stents (SEMS) with or without endobiliary radiofrequency ablation (ERFA). Methods: Between January 2010 and September 2014, 76 patients with biliary obstruction caused by unresectable extrahepatic CCA (27 patients with Bismuth type I hilar CCA and 49 patients with distal CCA) were recruited into this study. Patients either received ERFA with SEMS (n = 34) or SEMS only (n = 42). Stent patency and survival of both groups were compared and predictors for overall survival were analyzed. Results: Demographic data were not different between the two groups. Complication rates of both groups were similar. Thirty-day stent patency was obtained in all patients and the median stent patency in the ERFA + SEMS group (9.5 months, 4.5 - 14.0 months) was significantly longer than that in the SEMS group (8.4 months, 4.9 - 11 months) (P = 0.024). The overall survival curve in the ERFA + SEMS group was significantly better than that of the SEMS group (P = 0.036). Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analyses showed that ERFA, tumor AJCC stage, extrahepatic CCA type, serum albumin and adjuvant chemotherapy were significant prognostic factors for overall patient survival. Conclusions: ERFA is effective for unresectable extrahepatic CCA and may improve metal stent patency and patient survival for unresectable extrahepatic CCA with biliary obstruction. Prospective randomized trials will be needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract: A composite method of solution for contact stresses on roller was suggested by the combination of similitude principle, photoelastic method, Hertz's contact theoty and numerical calculation. Thus, not only the reasonable distribution of axial contact pressure on roller of limited Iength, but also the three-dimensional solution of stress in the contact post may be obtained. Obeservation on the prachcal damaged roller is in agreement with the result after contact stress analysis of such a working roller.
Finite-Time Filtering for Linear Continuous Time-Varying Systems with Uncertain Observations

Abstract: This paper is concerned with the finite-time ∞ filtering problem for linear continuous time-varying systems with uncertain observations and ℒ2-norm bounded noise. The design of finite-time ∞ filter is equivalent to the problem that a certain indefinite quadratic form has a minimum and the filter is such that the minimum is positive. The quadratic form is related to a Krein state-space model according to the Krein space linear estimation theory. By using the projection theory in Krein space, the finite-time ∞ filtering problem is solved. A numerical example is given to illustrate the performance of the ∞ filter.

Abstract: Background: Whether percutaneous microwave coagulation (PMC) is safe and effective for the treatment of symptomatic focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) of the liver remains unknown. Methods: Between January 2006 and September 2015, sixteen patients with solitary symptomatic FNHs in the liver (the largest diameter less than 5 cm) were treated by PMC. The safty and effectiveness were analyzed. Results: There were 4 males and 12 females. All these patients suffered from upper abdominal pain. The FNHs ranged in size from 3.2 cm to 5.0 cm (3.9 cm ± 0.12 cm). All the PMC procedures were performed successfully. All 16 patients had symptomatic improvement after the treatment with no procedure-related morbidity or mortality. Among 16 patients, 15 (93.8%) patients with FNHs were assessed to be ablated completely by CT examination performed within four weeks after PMC treatment. One patient failed to follow up regularly, but showed up 2 years and 7 months later for suffering upper abdominal pain again with original FNH enlargement, and the patient received surgical resection of the FNH and achieved asymptomatic aftermath. Conclusion: PMC is safe and effectiveness for symptomatic liver FNHs. PMC should be considered to be an alternative modality for those solitary FNHs with less than 5 cm in diameter.

Abstract: The crack tip strain gauge method in the compliance technique was used to determine the opening load of notched crack of axle steel,and the nonlinear finite element ADINA program, to which the cyclic stress-strain curve of axle steel was applied,was used to analyze the stress-strain field ahead of the crack tip and the opening load of notched crack.The results of both the compliance technique and the numerical method were in good agreement.In this pa- per,the concept of the sensitive point is proposed and the key to the determination of the crack opening load in the experiment is to place a strain gauge at sensitive point.It is certified by both experimental and numerical methods that the sensitive point has the best linear relation- ship character and the value of strain is much greater.

Abstract: Studies were made of the symmetric tensile-compressive low cycle fatigue behaviour and the influence of dynamic strain aging(DSA)pre-treatment of 18-8 austenitic stainless steel. Within the testing amplitude range of strain.±0.5 % to±1.5 %,the three processes of cyclic hardening,cyclic saturation and cyclic softening were observed.In the same amplitude of strain,the peak stress of the samples pre-treated by DSA is higher than that of solid-solu- tion and cold working pre-treatment,but no remarkable differences of the fatigue lives of them were found.TEM observation shows that the uniform and stable dislocation networks with high density form after DSA pre-treatment,which increases the cyclic peak stress.The cyclic softening results from the low dislocation density and elongated cell structure with low energy.
Determination of dissolved selenium species in environmental samples

Abstract: This article reports on the technique for the determination of selenium at ppt level and the procedure for the speciation of dissolved selenium in the environmental samples. By combining the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and a fluorescent detector (FLD), this technique permits the determination of selenium at 0.001 μg/L for Se(IV) and 0.005 μg/L for Se(VI) and the total concentration of selenium for a sample volume of 20 ml. In the speciation procedure, Se(IV) is firstly determined based on the selectivity of 2, 4 - diaminonaphthalene (DAN), the Se (VI) and the total element concentration are determined after reduced to Se(IV) by boiling in 4 mol/L HCl and by digesting in HNO3-HClO4 mixture, respectively. Discussions are given on the relationship between selenium speciation in waters and soil water extract and solution pH, EH and total organic carbon concentration (TOC).

Abstract: During the past three decades - the era of economic liberalization in mainland China - China has had one of the world's fastest growing economies. However, healthcare development in China is far behind its economic growth. The performance of China's healthcare system was rated poorly compared to that of other countries according to The World Health Report 2000 - Health Systems: Improving Performance [1].In China, total healthcare expenditure accounts for 4.5% to 5.6% of gross domestic product (Table 1). Although the trend shows that an increasing proportion of total healthcare expenditure has been funded by the government since 2001, the government paid only 20.3% of the expenditure in 2007 [2,3]. On the other hand, the urban basic healthcare insurance program in China is still in a development period, covering only 359.5 million people (52.2% of the urban population, or 27.1% of the total population) in 2008 [3]. However, other forms of insurance program are under development, especially in rural areas.Healthcare in mainland China is not cheap. The annual cost of medical care for a citizen in China increased from US dollars (USD) 42.9 in 2001 to USD 125.7 in 2008, corresponding to 7.2% and 10.1% of annual income per capita, respectively (Table 1).Although advanced life support techniques, especially positive pressure ventilation, inspired the development of critical care medicine in Europe and North America in the 1950s, critical care medicine is still one of the newest disciplines of clinical medicine in mainland China.As in many other countries, critical care was initially practiced in a variety of postoperative recovery rooms and/or an isolation area within the general ward. It is well recognized that the first ICU in mainland China was set up in the Peking Union Medical College Hospital in 1982, in the form of a surgical ICU with only one bed [4,5].
