Optimization of Glutamine Peptide Production from Soybean Meal and Analysis of Molecular Weight Distribution of Hydrolysates

Abstract: The process parameters of enzymatic hydrolysis and molecular weight distribution of glutamine (Gln) peptides from soybean meal were investigated. The Protamex ? hydrolysis pH of 6.10, temperature of 56.78 °C, enzyme to substrate ratio (E/S) of 1.90 and hydrolysis time of 10.72 h were found to be the optimal conditions by response surface methodology (RSM) for a maximal degree of hydrolysis (DH) value of 16.63% and Gln peptides content at 5.95 mmol/L. The soybean meal was hydrolyzed by a combination of Protamex ? and trypsinase so that DH and Gln peptides would reach 22.02% and 6.05 mmol/mL, respectively. The results of size exclusion chromatography indicated that the relative proportion of the molecular weight < 1000 Da fraction increased with DH values from 6.76%, 11.13%, 17.89% to 22.02%, most notably the 132–500 Da fractions of hydrolysates were 42.14%, 46.57%, 58.44% and 69.65%. High DH values did not lead to high Gln peptides content of the hydrolysate but to the low molecular weight Gln peptides.

Abstract: The characters of male sterile (MS) line 54257/162-5 were described , both the female 54257 and male 162-5 parents of which were Somaclones derived from IR54 and IR52 respectively. Application of the phylogenetic analysis in mitochondrial disease study

Abstract: Mitochondrial disease currently received an increasing concern. However, the case-control design commonly adopted in this field is vulnerable to genetic background, population stratification and poor data quality. Although the phylogenetic analysis could help solve part of these problems, it has not received adequate attention. This paper is a review of this method as well as its application in mitochondrial disease study.
Complete sequence and gene organization of the mitochondrial genome of Batocera lineolata Chevrolat (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae)

Abstract: Batocera lineolata Chevrolat, 1852 is an important forest pest that is found mainly in China, Vietnam, India, and Japan. The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence of B. lineolata was determined by long polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and conserved primer walking approaches. The results showed that the entire mitogenome is 15418 bp long with 74.48% A+T content. The positions and arrangement of the 37 genes encoded by the genome are identical to the mitogenomes of two other longhorn beetles for which the complete gene content and arrangement are publicly available. All protein-coding genes start with the ATN codon that is a typical initiation codon in insects. All transfer RNAs (tRNAs) were predicted to form the standard clover-leaf structure, except for tRNA Ser (AGN), which lacks the dihydrouridine (DHU) arm. The most unusual feature that was found was the use of TCT as the tRNA Ser (AGN) anticodon instead of the GCT that is used in most other arthropods. The lack of tandem repeat motif in the 735 bp long A+T-rich region was another unusual feature of the B. lineolata mitogenome. The short, highly conserved polythymidine stretch that was previously described in the Orthoptera and Diptera orders was also present in the A+T-rich region of the B. lineolata (order Coleoptera) mitogenome. The sequence and annotation of the mitogenome of B. lineolata will provide further insights into the diversity and evolution of the Cerambycidae family of long-horned beetles. The B. lineolata mitogenome sequence has been deposited in GenBank (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Genbank/) under accession number JN986793.
Exergy Efficiency Analysis of Embedded Pipe in Radiant Ceiling Cooling System

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate an exergy analysis on embedded pipes of radiant ceiling cooling system. Based on the thermodynamic principles, the exergy analysis model of radiant ceiling cooling system is established. The exergy efficiency of radiant ceiling cooling system and its main equipments can be simulated and calculated by the model. Under the different pipe spacing, depth and diameter, the exergy efficiency of radiant ceiling, refrigerating unit, pump and radiant ceiling cooling system and the surface temperature of radiant ceiling panel are compared and analyzed and the exergy loss coefficients of radiant ceiling panel, refrigerating unit and pump are calculated. The conclusions show that pipe depth and spacing have primary influence on exergy efficiency and surface temperature distribution respectively and the refrigerating unit is the most important part for exergy saving in radiant ceiling cooling system.
Aerobes and Levels of Estradiol and Progesterone in Cystic Endometrial Hyperplasia-Pyometra Complex Bitches

Abstract: To determine which aerobic bacteria exert a marked effect on Cystic Endometrial Hyperplasia-Pyometra complex (CEH-P) and to determine from where these bacteria originate. About 48 privately owned bitches were diagnosed with CEH-P. Healthy vagina and uterine samples were obtained with cotton pledgets and cumulative uterine fluids from CEH-P cysts were collected with a syringe in utero to isolate and identify aerobic bacterial. A total of 99 isolates were identified and the primary aerobe in the CEH-P bitches was found to be Escherichia coli (33/99). The levels of estrode in bitches with endometritis and in bitches with pyometra and estrus were higher than the levels in diestrus bitches (p<0.01). When ranked according to the levels of progesterone in a descending order (i.e., from high to low levels), the ranking was bitches with pyometra, bitches with endometritis, bitches in estrus and bitches in diestrus. These results suggest that in addition to common pathogenic bacteria differential in every area, casual bacterial contamination invariably occurred in bitches with CEH-P and the primary infection ascended from the vagina when the cervix was open. The researchers also inferred that both estrode and progesterone levels in CEH-P bitches were increased relative to the levels in healthy bitches and were even higher than that of the levels observed in estrus bitches. Estrode and progesterone pretreatment and uterine mucosa damage were interpreted as the preconditions for bacterial infection. The hormone levels in CEH-P bitches were similar to the endocrinal characteristics of peripartum bitches.
Research and development on erasure codes

Abstract: This paper describes the principles of a few types of erasure codes, and analyzes their merits, drawbacks and relationships systematically. It is shown that if MDS codes are chosen as erasure codes, a receiver can reconstruct the original source data once it receives any portion of the encoding data equal to the length of the message. The analysis shows that loss-resilient codes and Tornado codes can not only be both encoded and decoded successfully in linear time, but also can come arbitrarily close to the channel capacity. Finally, some problems on loss-resilient codes which remain to be solved are presented. These analyses and conclusions provide theoretical base and new ideas for further studying erasure codes.

Abstract: Cotyledons from mature embryos of cassava cultivar Nanzhi 188 selected from cultivar CM321 - 188, which was provided by CIAT (Centro internacional de Agricultura Tropical), were used as explants. AgNO3 could obviously promote the plant regeneration frequency (PRF) in the induction medium (MS I) with 16 mg L-I AgNO3 added at the 7th day, and in maturation medium (MS II) with 20 mg L-l AgNO, added at the 15th day, the PRF being from 40.5% (control) to 58.1 %, and from 36.1 % (control) to 61.3%,respectively. 0.25 mg L-1 ABA adding to MS I and to MS II could markedly improve PRF by 32.1 % and 45.2%, respectively. An decreasing concentration of 2,4-D at 2.0 mg L-1 plus 16 mg L-1 AgNO3 and 0.25 mg L-1 ABA in combination signifcanlly improved somatic embryo maturation and promoted to form normal shoots, the highest PRF was 95%, and the number of plantlets produced reached 39.6 per explant.
The application of the multiple tapers spectral analysis in the Q estimation

Abstract: The multi-tapers spectral estimation, such as the multiple sinusoidal tapers and the Slepian tapers spectral estimation, is a powerful method of data analysis which is often used to study geophysical processes. In this paper, the two kinds of multi-tapers spectral estimation are compared by applying them in the composite decay traces with noise, and then the quality factor Q is estimated. It shows that the application result of the multiple sinusoidal tapers is much superior to that of the Slepian tapers. In addition, the spectrum with the multiple sinusoidal tapers spectral estimation is much closer to the real spectrum. So the much more accurate Q can be estimated by the use of the multiple sinusoidal tapers spectral estimation for the deep layer affected severely by the noise.
