Comparative Study of the Mutant Prevention Concentrations of Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim Alone and in Combination with Levofloxacin against Stenotrophomonas maltophilia  [PDF]

Abstract: Objectives: To determine the mutant prevention concentration (MPC) of sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (SXT) alone and in combination with levofloxacin (LVX) against Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (S. maltophilia) and to determine if the combination may decrease the emergence of resistant mutants. Methods: The MPC with 20 S. maltophilia strains which were both susceptible to SXT and LVX were determined by inhibiting visible growth among 1010 CFU on four agar plates after 72 hours incubation at 37°C. Results: All except two strains (18/20) showed a mutant prevention concentration ≥ 152/8 μg/mL for SXT and the range of the mutant prevention concentration for the SXT in combination with LVX is 9.5/0.5~608/32 μg/mL, which demonstrates at least 2 fold reduction except one strain. There was a significant difference (P < 0.01) between SXT alone and in combination with LVX on the mutant prevention concentration and mutant prevention concentration/minimum inhibitory concentration values. Conclusions: The MPC/MIC values were narrowed for SXT by combining with LVX against the S maltophilia. The combination may decrease the enrichment of mutant bacterial populations. Much study is needed to verify whether the using of drug combinations may restrict or even block the selection of S. maltophilia mutants.

Abstract: A new non-interpolating semi-Lagrangian scheme has been proposed, which can eliminate any interpolation, and consequently numerical smoothing of forecast fields. Here the new scheme is applied to KdV equation and its performance is assessed by comparing the numerical results with those produced by Ritchie’s scheme (1986).The comparison shows that the non-interpolating semi-Lagrangian scheme appears to have efficiency advantages. Sensitivity of Medium-Range Weather Forecasts to the Use of Reference Atmosphere

Abstract: In this paper, the authors develop the earlier work of Chen Jiabin et al. (1986). In order to reduce spectral truncation errors, the reference atmosphere has been introduced in ECMWF model, and the spectrally-represented variables, temperature, geopotential height and orography, are replaced by their deviations from the reference atmos-phere. Two modified semi- implicit schemes have been proposed to alleviate the computational instability due to the introduction of reference atmosphere. Concerning the deviation of surface geopotential height from reference atmos-phere, an exact computational formulation has been used instead of the approximate one in the earlier work. To re-duce aliasing errors in the computations of the deviation of the surface geopotential height, a spectral fit has been used slightly to modify the original Gaussian grid-point values of orography.A series of experiments has been performed in order to assess the impact of the reference atmosphere on ECMWF medium- range forecasts at the resolution T21, T42 and T63, The results we have obtained reveal that the reference atmosphere introduced in ECMWF spectral model is generally beneficial to the mean statistical scores of 1000-200 hPa height 10-day forecasts over the globe. In the Southern Hemisphere, it is a clear improvement for T21, T42 and T63 throughout the 10-day forecast period, In the Northern Hemisphere, the impact of the reference atmos-phere on anomaly correlation is positive for resolution T21, a very slightly damaging at T42 and almost neutral at T63 in the range of day 1 to day 4. Beyond the day 4 there is a clear improvement at all resolutions.

Abstract: An improved scheme of spectral model has been investigated in this paper. Through the introduction of a reference atmosphere, prognostic variables become smoother on the tilled sigma-surface over mountains or a frontal zone, and thus truncation errors are reduced. As a result, the problems about Gibbs waves and negative value of model topography on the sea, which are encountered in the current spectral model in the world, can be solved by the improved scheme. For comparison we have performed the numerical integrations of barotropic and baroclinic Rossby-Haurwitz waves, as well as the prediction of real cases with the improved scheme and the current scheme of spectral model. These results show that the scheme presented in the paper is better than the current scheme of spectral model.
The Impact of Servant Leadership on Proactive Behaviors: A Study Based on Cognitive Evaluation Theory  [PDF]

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between servant leadership and proactive behaviors. Apart from this, drawing on the cognitive evaluation theory, we regard that proactive behaviors are driven by intrinsic motivation and further propose three psychological constructs to clarify the underlying mechanisms of servant leadership on employees’ proactive behaviors: Job autonomy, leader-member exchange and role breadth self-efficacy. Using a sample of 227 leader-employee dyads from two companies, the empirical results show that: 1) Servant leadership had positive effects on individual task proactivity and team member proactivity; 2) The relationship between servant leadership and individual task proactivity was mediated by job autonomy and role breadth self-efficacy, while leader-member exchange and role breadth self-efficacy mediated the influence of servant leadership on team member proactivity. All hypotheses were supported. Overall, this study enriches and develops related theories of proactive behaviors’ influencing factors. It uses cognitive evaluation theory to integrate the mechanisms that motivate employees’ proactive behaviors. It species the different psychological processes that servant leadership promotes employees’ proactive behaviors directed to different targets. It provides important references for managers to effectively encourage employees’ individual task proactivity and team member proactivity. Besides, limitations and suggestions for future research are discussed at the end of the article.
Binding of Bezafibrate to Human Serum Albumin: Insight into the Non-Covalent Interaction of an Emerging Contaminant with Biomacromolecules

Abstract: In recent years, bezafibrate (BZF) has been frequently detected in environmental media. In order to reveal the toxicity of such an emerging pollutant, its interaction with human serum albumin (HSA) was studied by fluorescence spectrometry, circular dichroism, and equilibrium dialysis. Fluorescence data showed that the fluorescence quenching of HSA by BZF resulted from the formation of HSA-BZF complex. The binding constants were determined to be 3.33 × 103, 2.84 × 103 M?1 at 298 and 309.5 K, respectively. The thermodynamic determination indicated that the hydrophobic and electrostatic interaction were the dominant binding force. The conformational investigation showed that the presence of BZF increased the α-helix content of HSA and induced the slight unfolding of the polypeptides of protein. Finally, the equilibrium dialysis showed that 0.56 mM BZF decreased the binding of vitamin B2 to HSA by 29%.

Abstract: A new noninterpolating semi-Lagrangian scheme is further developed here based on the authors' previous noninterpolating semi-Lagrangian scheme. It eliminates any interpolation, so it eradicates the numerical smoothing caused by interpolation. Its stability in computation is proved. The new scheme is applied to one- and two-dimensional models respectively in order to test its property. The one-dimensional model uses Burgers equation with large variable gradient; and the two-dimensional one, the shallow water equation. The performances of the scheme are asessed by comparing their computational results with those obtained by Ritchie's noninterpolating semi-Lagrangian scheme, Eulerian scheme or the usual interpolating semi-Lagrangian scheme. It is shown that the new scheme eliminates the interpolation and so it gets rid of the smoothing caused by it. The computational accuracy is improved to some degree. The work makes a preparation for applying the scheme to global spectral models.
Modeling of MEMS Gyroscope’s Non-Stationary Random Drift

Abstract: The random drift is the most important factor affects MEMS Gyro’s precision and it is anon-stationary random signal. For improving precision of gyro and reducing effect of random drift,using grey GM(1,1) model to extract established tendency signal, using power spectral density(PSD) to identify and extract the hidden periodic weak signal, then using AR(3) to model gyro’srandom drift. As the example of LCG50 MEMS gyro, the simulation experimental results show thatusing this method can reduce the random drift and enhance precision of gyro.

Abstract: 在作者过去提出的完全非内插半拉格朗日格式的基础上,针对半拉格朗日格式由于内插带来预报场人为的光滑性问题,进一步发展了这种计算格式,证明了此格式的计算稳定性。为检验这种新的计算格式的性能,在一维和二维问题上进行了应用。在一维问题中采用了一维无粘Burgers方程(方程中有突变点);二维问题采用了浅水波方程,同时将这些计算结果与Ritchie方案及欧拉方案或一般半拉格朗日内插方案的计算结果进行了比较,发现新格式消除了内插和预报场的人为光滑,并且计算精度有一定程度的提高,这为以后将此格式推广到全球谱模式打下了基础。
