Comparative Performance and Computational Approach of Humic Acid Removal by Clay Adsorption  [PDF]

Abstract: The effective removal of humic acid is an important factor influencing the quality of treated waters. Adsorption is one of major techniques used for the removal of humic acid. This study demonstrated that modified clays could be used as alternatives to activated carbons for adsorbing humic acid. Both Al-Fe modified and Fe modified clays had high affinity to humic acid and then high removal efficiency. Al-modified clay had less removal capacity for adsorbing humic acid. Mathematics formulas were developed to predict the adsorption performance of modified clays for the humic acid removal via the parameters of UV254 absorbance and DOC concentrations. The optimal clay dose could be predicted using the developed model. The F test was used to validate the model developed by examining if it fells into the reject field. The reject field varied according to each F test. The results showed that the model developed was 99% confident and can be used to perform the simulation.
Measuring the Intraday Jump Tail Risk of Financial Asset Price with Noisy High Frequency Data  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper proposes a simple two-step nonparametric procedure to estimate the intraday jump tail and measure the jump tail risk in asset price with noisy high frequency data. We first propose the pre-averaging threshold approach to estimate the intraday jumps occurred, and then use the peaks-over-threshold (POT) method and generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) to model the intraday jump tail and further measure the jump tail risk. Finally, an empirical example further demonstrates the power of the proposed method to measure the jump tail risk under the effect of microstructure noise.

Abstract: This paper studied the interpretation method of realization of data mining for large-scale petrophysical data, which took distributed architecture, cloud computing technology and B/S mode referred to big data technology and data mining methods. Based on petrophysical data mining application of K-means clustering analysis, it elaborated the practical significance of application association with big data technology in well logging field, which also provided a scientific reference for logging interpretation work and data analysis and processing method to broaden the application.
Recognition on toxicity of traditional Chinese drugs

Abstract: ABSTRACT: Our ancestor found that some of the Chinese herbal drugs were toxic during their clinical practice. They graded the toxicity of Chinese herbal drugs into three degrees and thought that the term "toxicity of the Chinese herbal drugs" could be used in a broad and a narrow sense. In modern times, toxic components of the Chinese herbal drugs and their toxic mechanisms, especially the toxicity on the kidney, were further revealed. The factors that affect the toxicity of the Chinese herbal drugs include the species, preparation, dose and environment. To prevent the toxicity of the Chinese herbal drugs, we must strengthen the management of the Chinese herbal drugs. On the other hand, doctors' recognition of the toxicity of Chinese herbal drugs should be enhanced. At the same time, patients should be told to decoct and take Chinese herbal drugs correctly
Primary culture and morphologic observation of eutopic and ectopic endometrial cells from patients with endomehiosis

Abstract: Objective: To explore the method of primary culture for endometriotic cells and to find out the differences in morphological manifestations among endometriotic cells and eutopic endometrial cells sampled from patients with endometriosis and endometriosis-free women. Methods: Endometriotic and eutopic endometrial cells were cultured by modified method of primary culture. The endometriotic cell types were observed and differentiated under optical and electron microscopes. Results: The success rates for culture of eutopic endometrial cells from endometriosis-free women and patients with endometriosis were 91.67% and 93.75% respectively. The success rate for culture of endometriotic cells was 75.00%. The size of endometriotic glandular cells was similar to those of eutopic endometrial glandular cells from endometriosis-free women and patients with endometriosis. The chromatin was manifold and the nucleus was augmented in the endometriotic glandular cells. The endometriotic stromal cells were smaller than the eutopic endometrial stromal cells from endometriosis-free women and patients with endometriosis. Many tiny villi and protuberances on plasma membrane could be seen in the endometriotic stromal cells.Conclusion: The success rate for culture of endometriotic cells can be elevated through improving the method of primary culture. The ultrastructures of endometriotic glandular and stromal cells are obviously different from those of eutopic endometrial glandular and stromal cells from endometriosis-free women and patients with endometriosis.
Regulatory mechanism of malignant behavior of endometriosis mediated by puerarin

Abstract: Objective: To observe the inhibitory effects of puerarin on angiopoiesis of endometriotic tissue, and to explore the regulatory effects of puerarin on tumor-related gene expression of endometriosis.Methods:The regulatory effects of puerarin on endometriotic angiopoiesis and tumor-related gene expression were observed by using a chicken chorioallantoic membrane model and gene array method. Results: Chicken chorioallantoic membrane experiment indicated that puerarin obviously inhibited endometriotic vasiculation and angiopoiesis. The area of blood vessels was significantly reduced as compared with the untreated group (P<0.05). The expressions of oncogenes and genes related to adhesion, invasion, and apoptosis, including ERBB2, ETS2, FOS, S100A4, TEK, TERT, NFKBIA, CDH1, CD44, ITGA6, NCAM1, MMP1, FLT1, AKT1, BCL2L and BIRC5 genes, were obviously higher, while the expressions of the anti-oncogenes, anti-apoptosis genes and anti-invasion genes, including KAI1, KISS1, SERPINB5, TNFRSF25, TNFRSF1A, TNFRSF6 and SERPINB2, were significantly lower in eutopic endometrial tissue from patients with endometriosis than those from endometriosis-free women. The expressions of oncogenes (ERBB2, ETS2, FOS), apoptosis gene (BCL2L1), cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK4, CDC25A), and growth factor and receptors (HGF, FGFR2, TGFBR) were significantly enhanced, while the expressions of the anti-oncogenes (KAI1, SERPINB5), apoptosis genes (BAD and TNF) and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibiting factor (CDKN2A) were obviously reduced in ectopic tissue as compared with those in eutopic tissue from patients with endometriosis. Puerarin significantly enhanced the gene expressions in endometriotic stromal cells, including BAD, BAX, CASP8, CASP9, TNFRSF6, CDKN1B, CDKN2A, IFNA1 and IFNB1, and reduced the gene expressions of FOS, CHEK2, SRC, ITGB5, MMP9, PDGFA and NFKBIA.Conclusions: The tumor-related gene expression has significant differences in eutopic endometrial tissue between patients with endometriosis and endometriosis-free women, and between ectopic and eutopic tissues from patients with endometriosis. Puerarin can reduce angiopoiesis, regulate tumor-related gene expression and facilitate apoptosis in endometriotic tissue.
Three Identical Fermions with Resonant p-wave Interactions in Two Dimensions

Abstract: A new kind of "super-Efimov" states of binding energies scaling as $\ln|E_n|\sim-e^{3n\pi/4}$ were predicted by a field theory calculation for three fermions with resonant $p$-wave interactions in two dimensions [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{110}, 235301 (2013)]. However, the universality of these "super-Efimov" states has not been proved independently. In this Letter, we study the three fermion system through the hyperspherical formalism. Within the adiabatic approximation, we find that at $p$-wave resonances, the low energy physics of states of angular momentum $\ell=\pm1$ crucially depends on the value of an emergent dimensionless parameter $Y$ determined by the detail of the inter-particle potential. Only if $Y$ is exactly zero, the predicted "super-Efimov" states exist. If $Y>0$, the scaling of the bound states changes to $\ln|E_n|\sim-(n\pi)^2/2Y$, while there are no shallow bound states if $Y<0$.
Breathing mode of two-dimensional atomic Fermi gases in harmonic traps

Abstract: For two-dimensional (2D) atomic Fermi gases in harmonic traps, the SO(2,1) symmetry is broken by the interatomic interaction explicitly via the contact correlation operator. Consequently the frequency of the breathing mode $\omega_B$ of the 2D Fermi gas can be different from $2\omega_0$, with $\omega_0$ the trapping frequency of harmonic potentials. At zero temperature, we use the sum rules of density correlation functions to yield upper bounds for $\omega_B$. We further calculate $\omega_B$ through the Euler equations in the hydrodynamic regime. The obtained value of $\omega_B$ satisfies the upper bounds and shows deviation from $2\omega_0$ which can be as large as about 8%.

A Deterministic Program for Obtaining Optima under Constraints for Any Analytical System

Abstract: Conceptual framework is laid out of a deterministic program capable of obtaining optimum solutions with or without constraints for any reasonably behaved analytical system. Recipe implementable as a well-behaved Runge-Kutta procedure is given. Determinism means no inspired initial guesses or random number trials. The program follows well-defined steps between well-defined start and end points, to a large extent configuration independent. This program is also conjectured to lead to global optimum solutions based on evidence, short of a proof. Application to realistic problems is given as example.
