Abstract: objectives: to determine the prevalence of asthma and the association between sociodemographic characteristics, spirometry, respiratory symptoms, quality of life and sleep in adults > 40 years. materials and methods: this report is part of our study (latin american research project obstructive pulmonary), held in mexico city and the metropolitan area in 2003. we used logistic regression models adjusted for study design, where asthma was the dependent and independent variable respiratory symptoms, sociodemographic and clinical characteristics among others. results: the prevalence of physician-diagnosed asthma was: 3.3% in men and 6.2% in women. decreased lung function in asthmatics was observed. in multivariate analysis, after adjusting for potential confounders, asthmatics had a higher risk of excessive daytime sleepiness more snoring [or = 3.2 (95% ci 1.4-7.4), p= 0.008], and more frequent work absences due to respiratory problems [or = 5.1 (95% ci 2.5-10.4), p<0.0001]. conclusions: the prevalence of asthma was 5%. asthmatics showed lower quality of life and lung function.

Abstract: Introduction Our aim was to compare the longitudinal lung function growth of Mexican children and adolescents with the collated spirometric reference proposed for international use and with that of Mexican-Americans from the National Health State Examination Survey III (NHANES) III study. Materials and Methods A cohort of Mexican children in third year of primary school was followed with spirometry twice a year through secondary school. Multilevel mixed-effects lineal models separated by gender were fit for the spirometric variables of 2,641 respiratory-healthy Mexican children expressed as Z-scores of tested reference equations. Impact of adjustment by sitting height on differences with Mexican-American children was observed in a subsample of 1,987 children. Results At same gender, age, and height, Mexican children had increasingly higher forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) and Forced vital capacity (FVC) than the children from the collated reference study (mean Z-score, 0.68 for FEV1 and 0.51 for FVC) and than Mexican-American children (Z-score, 0.23 for FEV1 and 0.21 for FVC) respectively. Differences with Mexican-Americans were not reduced by adjusting by sitting height. Conclusions For reasons that remain unclear, the gender-, age-, and height-adjusted lung function of children from Mexico City is higher than that reported by several international studies.

[en] In late 2009, stories about James Urbani flooded the TV news. The case of a young man died following a burglary charged two teenagers of 16 and 17, was nested in the coverage of Telefé News, America News, All News, Channel 5 News and Vision 7. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on one of the main thesis of “Crime and Punishment youth. Urbani case construction in five television news “, which analyzed the ways in which journalistic techniques operated production of fear, that shaped the conflict in the television field. The construction of stories victimizing realized citizenship disturbed, saturated, plaintiff, claimed by security and justice in a context of pressure on the reformulation of existing legislation on juvenile criminal matters. In that sense, we summarize some results arrived at in relation to the problem of generating perceptions of risk to the micro-offenders, and their impact on the mechanisms that enabled the legitimization of punitive practices in news about the youth, crime and punishment .

Flaubert’s works have been translated into an important number of languages all around the world. These versions present different solutions to the “problems” of Flaubert’s style. In fact, translated books content many aesthetic and formal modifications that are intimately related to the strategies actives into the literary system that receives the resultant text. However, there is a kind of double gaze in the translator’s work that hides the simultaneous development of other aspects that are not literary features. The Galician translation of Madame Bovary shows how stylistic choices are determined by extra-literary politics into a cultural system that is already not completely consolidated.

Fernández Darraz,Ma Cecilia;
Anagramas -Rumbos y sentidos de la comunicación- , 2011,
Abstract: i use this article to analyze two types of discourses from a critical point of view, in relation to the commercial sexual exploitation in chile. first, i should speak about the discourse expressed by political authorities. second, i should speak about the content of a municipal ordinance of las condes commune in chile metropolitan area, intended to regulate exercise of such an activity. by using social player representation models (van leeuwen, 1996 and fairclough, 2003) i should conclude that analyzed discourses specifically include caregivers and residents of the sector and exclude women and customers who directly participate in the activity. likewise, an ambiguous position where acceptance and rejection of commercial sexual exploitation coexist while discursive voices follow the ideological position which states that prostitution is an economic activity as any one else.

Abstract: in this paper the representation of women in school history textbooks covering the period from the conquest of chile to the late twentieth century is analyzed. to this end editions from the decades of the eighties and nineties and the texts published and distributed by the ministry of education to public and subsidized schools in 2009 were revised. as of the early nineties, the chilean state proposed to eliminate sexism and promote gender equity in the school system. despite attempts to bring women out of oblivion and invisibility, their discursive representation is characterized by exclusion, generalization, association with gender stereotypes and the construction of passive figures marginalized from the historical processes.
