Abstract: the presence and identity of wood-decay basidiomycetes affecting platanus acerifolia were evaluated in buenos aires city during 2007. from 247 samples of basidiomes and wood with signs of decay, 19 strains were isolated, from which 10 rdna sequences were obtained. the aim of this work was to analyze the scope of information obtained from its sequences as taxonomic tools to study local populations of wood-rotting fungi in urban trees. phylogenetic analyses were performed under static and dynamic homologies. the techniques employed enable to: identificate coprinellus micaceus and corroborate the identification of bjerkandera adusta, while these same results were not achieved for inonotus rickii, ganoderma resinaceum, peniophora laxitexta and phlebiopsis gigantea due to the complexity of the genera and the lack of sequences. lack of sequences at a regional level would be a major obstacle for the detection of wood decay agents in urban trees using its sequences.

Durante 2007 se evaluó la presencia e identidad de Basidiomycetes xilófagos que afectan a Platanus acerifolia en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Sobre la base de 247 muestras de basidiomas y madera con signos de pudrición se aislaron 19 cepas, a partir de las cuales se obtuvieron 10 secuencias correspondientes a rADN. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar la utilidad de la información brindada por las secuencias correspondientes al fragmento ITS en la identificación taxonómica de poblaciones locales de hongos xilófagos en árboles urbanos. Se realizaron análisis filogenéticos bajo homologías estáticas y dinámicas. Los resultados obtenidos fueron comparados con las identificaciones morfológicas y de cultivo previas de las cepas. Las técnicas empleadas permitieron: identificar a Coprinellus micaceus y corroborar la identificación de Bjerkandera adusta, mientras que no se lograron los mismos resultados, debido a la complejidad de los géneros y a la ausencia de secuencias, para Inonotus rickii, Ganoderma resinaceum, Peniophora laxitexta y Phlebiopsis gigantea. La falta de secuencias a nivel regional aparece como uno de los principales obstáculos para la detección de agentes de pudrición de la madera en árboles urbanos, mediante los análisis basados en secuencias ITS.

Abstract: Resumen. Diferentes aislamientos del hongo entomopatogeno Beauveria bassiana se cultivaron en medio liquido (YPDA / YDA). Bajo estas condiciones B. bassiana fue capaz de producir y liberar al medio de cultivo una α-amilasa digestiva. Mediante elcctroforesis en geles de isoelectroenfoque (IEF) se logro estimar el punto isoelectrico (pl) de esta banda de actividad en 6.75. No se observaron variaciones en la intensidad de la actividad en esta banda para los diferentes aislamientos. Sin embargo, estos aislamientos mostraron diferencias consistentes en la actividad de la enzima especialmente cuando se utilizaron diferentes concentraciones de conidios de B. bassiana en el medio de cultivo. Este es un metodo simple y sensible para la determinacion de la actividad α-amilasa presento en el medio liquido de B. bassiana, el cual podria usarse satisfactoriamente no solo para la evaluacion de diferentes hongos entomopatogenicos, sino tambien, para hacer una determinacion rapida de posibles variaciones geneticas debidas a la presencia o ausencia de una enzima especifica. Summary. Different isolates of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana were grown using a liquid medium (YPDA /YDA). Under these conditions B. bassiana was able to release an α-amylase enzyme into the medium. Using electrophoresis on isoelectric focusing (IEF) gels the isoelectric point (pl) of this amylase activity band was estimated at 6.75 using isoelectric focusing (IEF). Variation in the intensity of enzyme activity was not observed in this band for the different isolates. However, these isolates showed consistent differences in the α-amylase activity especially when different concentrations B.bassiana conidia were used in the culture medium. This is a simple and sensitive method to determine α-amylase activity in liquid culture of B. bassiana, which could be used satisfactorily not only to evaluate different fungal entomopathogens, but to make a rapid determination of the possible genetic variants based on the presence or absence of a specific enzyme.

Abstract: This study analyzes recent negotiations and disputes among agents (African-argentine activist, local government employees and global agents) involved in the inclusion of a number of African descendants in the 2010 national census. This phenomenon is interpreted in the context of the last decade transnationalization of social movements, and the impacts of the participation of Latin-American countries in the World Conference against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance held in Durban, South Africa, in 2001. I examine how transnational fluxes and agents revive the debate about the discontinuities among ethnical, racial and national issues, reorganizing concepts and racial classifications, particularly throw the official ways of accountability and categorize these collectivities.

Host Responses to Sepsis Vary in Different Low-Lethality Murine Models

Abstract: Introduction Animal models for the study of sepsis are being increasingly scrutinized, despite their essential role for early translational research. In particular, recent studies have suggested that at the level of the leukocyte transcriptome, murine models of burns, trauma and endotoxemia markedly differ from their human equivalents, and are only weakly similar amongst themselves. We compared the plasma cytokine and leukocyte transcriptome responses between two different low-lethality murine models of polymicrobial intra-abdominal sepsis. Methods Six to ten week male C57BL/6j mice underwent either the ‘gold standard’ cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) model of intra-abdominal sepsis or administration of a cecal slurry (CS), where cecal contents are injected intraperitoneally. Surviving mice were euthanized at two hours, one or three days after sepsis. Results The murine leukocyte transcriptomic response to the CLP and CS models of sepsis was surprisingly dissimilar at two hours, one, and three days after sepsis. The Pearson correlation coefficient for the maximum change in expression for the entire leukocyte transcriptome that changed significantly over time (n = 19,071) was R = 0.54 (R2 = 0.297). The CS model resulted in greater magnitude of early inflammatory gene expression changes in response to sepsis with associated increased production of inflammatory chemokines and cytokines. Two hours after sepsis, CLP had more significant expression of genes associated with IL-10 signaling pathways, whereas CS had greater expression of genes related to CD28, apoptosis, IL-1 and T-cell receptor signaling. By three days, the changes in gene expression in both sepsis models were returning to baseline in surviving animals. Conclusion These analyses reveal that the murine blood leukocyte response to sepsis is highly dependent on which model of intra-abdominal sepsis is employed, despite their similar lethality. It may be difficult to extrapolate findings from one murine model to another, let alone to human sepsis.

Abstract:

Olive (Olea europaea L.) tree is one of the most extensive and important agricultural crop in Mediterranean countries due to its beneficial health and nutritional properties and its high economic value. Currently, olive tree constitutes the sixth most important cultivated plant in the world, spreading from the Mediterranean region of origin to new production areas such as Australia, South and North America and South Africa. However, the mobilization processes of storage materials i.e. reserve proteins during seed germination, which are largely involved in essential physiological process including plant growth and development, remain poorly understood. Morphometric and immunohistochemistry analyses of protein bodies contained in olive seed storage tissues, cotyledon and endosperm, were performed by using different microscopy techniques, including light (bright-field and fluorescence) microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Furthermore, we used legumin-like proteins (11S-type globulins) as a molecular marker to study the mobilization of reserve proteins from PBs of cotyledons at germinating seedling stages by using immunofluorescence assays. Results demonstrated that cotyledon and endosperm are characterized by distinct PBs populations containing legumin-like proteins, distinctly discriminated by the number of PBs per cell and tissue, size, immunofluorescence and histochemical staining. These features reflect differential PBs biogenesis during development and maturation processes in olive seed tissues endosperm and cotyledon, in relation to proteins (polypeptides) final composition, SSPs processing and/or packaging during seed maturation. Abstract: The special geometry ($(t,{\bar t})$-equations) for twisted $N=2$ strings are derived as consistency conditions of a new contact term algebra. The dilaton appears in the contact terms of topological and antitopological operators. The holomorphic anomaly, which can be interpreted as measuring the background dependence, is obtained from the contact algebra relations.
