Brazilian Journal of Botany , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-84042011000200007
Abstract: (morphological cladistic analysis of pseudobombax dugand (malvaceae, bombacoideae) and allied genera). pseudobombax dugand belongs to the family malvaceae subfamily bombacoideae and aggregates 29 species restricted to the neotropics. a morphological cladistic analysis of pseudobombax and allied genera was carried out to test the monophyly of the genus and to provide hypotheses on its phylogeny. parsimony analyses were based on 40 morphological characters and 28 species, 14 belonging to pseudobombax and 14 to other species of bombacoideae, matisieae (malvoideae) and ochromeae. nine most parsimonious trees (144 steps, ci 0.40, ri 0.67) were produced when 10 multistate characters were taken as ordered while only two most parsimonious trees (139 steps, ci 0.41, ri 0.67) were obtained when all characters were considered as unordered. pseudobombax monophyly had moderate bootstrap support, appearing as sister to a clade composed of the genera bombacopsis pittier and pachira aubl., or to the genus bombax l. according to the analysis. the petiole widened at the apex and the leaflets not jointed to the petiole are probably synapomorphies of pseudobombax. three main clades were found in the genus: one characterised by petiolulated leaflets and 5-angular fruits, the other by pubescent leaves and calyx, and the other by reduction of the number of leaflets. the latter includes species endemic to the brazilian semi-arid region also characterised by the absence of phalanges in the androecium. interspecific affinities in pseudobombax as well as the morphological evolution in bombacoideae are discussed.

Acta Botanica Brasilica , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33062009000400003
Abstract: trichome morphology of the petals of pseudobombax dugand species was investigated. the eight species selected of pseudobombax were analyzed using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. the study detected the existence of variation, both qualitative and quantitative, in morphology of trichomes in petals of species analyzed. in pseudobombax petals, two kinds of trichomes were found: (a) trichomes 2-4-armed, sessile, long, flexible and with thin walls, situated on the adaxial surface; (b) tufted trichomes, sessile, short, rigid, with thick, lignified walls, on the abaxial surface of the petals. the qualitative and quantitative data were of taxonomic value for the resolution of problems of specific identification in the genus.
Quantum-Mechanical Information Content of Multiples Hartree-Fock Solutions. The Multi-Reference Hartree-Fock Configuration Interaction Method  [PDF]

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2014.57065

The Hartree-Fock equation is non-linear and has, in principle, multiple solutions. The ωth HF extreme and its associated virtual spin-orbitals furnish an orthogonal base Bω of the full configuration interaction space. Although all Bω bases generate the same CI space, the corresponding configurations of each Bω base have distinct quantum-mechanical information contents. In previous works, we have introduced a multi-reference configuration interaction method, based on the multiple extremes

Optimization of Geometry at Hartree-Fock level Using the Generalized Simulated Annealing  [PDF]

Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/am.2012.330212
Abstract: This work presents a procedure to optimize the molecular geometry at the Hartree-Fock level, based on a global opti-mization method—the Generalized Simulated Annealing. The main characteristic of this methodology is that, at least in principle, it enables the mapping of the energy hypersurface as to guarantee the achievement of the absolute minimum. This method does not use expansions of the energy, nor of its derivates, in terms of the conformation variables. Distinctly, it performs a direct optimization of the total Hartree-Fock energy through a stochastic strategy. The algorithm was tested by determining the Hartree-Fock ground state and optimum geometries of the H2, LiH, BH, Li2, CH+, OH?, FH, CO, CH, NH, OH and O2 systems. The convergence of our algorithm is totally independent of the initial point and do not require any previous specification of the orbital occupancies.

Creative Education (CE) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2018.92021
Abstract: In this article we identify and analyze texts on physics questions in seven editions of a Brazilian national exam, with the purpose of bringing contributions to teaching planning and pedagogical actions with the perspective of supporting the creation of socio-scientific discussions (SSD), capable of inducing students in their citizenship development, in view of the difficulties of being worked in Sciences/Physics teaching environments appointed by the literature. A Brazilian state was chosen as a field, whose locus included six municipalities and 12 public institutions of basic education. Given that the results seem to distort the reality of the school context, the aforementioned difficulties were then theoretically and empirically disassembled, proving to be potentially minimized with the establishment of trails that enable the teacher to work on SSD identified in materials of easy and universal access, which contributes with advancement in the field of Science-Technology-Society education.
