Abstract: n this study, we develop some considerations about language teaching in the 1950s. To this end, we did a study on a chapter, in particular, called “Aspectos do ensino da língua”, from the work Introdu o ao Estudo da Filologia Portuguêsa, 1st edition, 1956, by Serafim da Silva Neto. Our interest is the conception of language teaching that permeates the scientific discourse that circulated in academia in the mid-1950s. This time window was delimited because it precedes the institutionalization of linguistics as a discipline within academia, as well as being a period in which there is not a prestige of the traditional grammatical knowledge.
Tigecycline challenge triggers sRNA production in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium

BMC Microbiology , 2012, DOI: 10.1186/1471-2180-12-195
Abstract: Background Bacteria employ complex transcriptional networks involving multiple genes in response to stress, which is not limited to gene and protein networks but now includes small RNAs (sRNAs). These regulatory RNA molecules are increasingly shown to be able to initiate regulatory cascades and modulate the expression of multiple genes that are involved in or required for survival under environmental challenge. Despite mounting evidence for the importance of sRNAs in stress response, their role upon antibiotic exposure remains unknown. In this study, we sought to determine firstly, whether differential expression of sRNAs occurs upon antibiotic exposure and secondly, whether these sRNAs could be attributed to microbial tolerance to antibiotics. Results A small scale sRNA cloning strategy of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium SL1344 challenged with half the minimal inhibitory concentration of tigecycline identified four sRNAs (sYJ5, sYJ20, sYJ75 and sYJ118) which were reproducibly upregulated in the presence of either tigecycline or tetracycline. The coding sequences of the four sRNAs were found to be conserved across a number of species. Genome analysis found that sYJ5 and sYJ118 mapped between the 16S and 23S rRNA encoding genes. sYJ20 (also known as SroA) is encoded upstream of the tbpAyabKyabJ operon and is classed as a riboswitch, whilst its role in antibiotic stress-response appears independent of its riboswitch function. sYJ75 is encoded between genes that are involved in enterobactin transport and metabolism. Additionally we find that the genetic deletion of sYJ20 rendered a reduced viability phenotype in the presence of tigecycline, which was recovered when complemented. The upregulation of some of these sRNAs were also observed when S. Typhimurium was challenged by ampicillin (sYJ5, 75 and 118); or when Klebsiella pneumoniae was challenged by tigecycline (sYJ20 and 118). Conclusions Small RNAs are overexpressed as a result of antibiotic exposure in S. Typhimurium where the same molecules are upregulated in a related species or after exposure to different antibiotics. sYJ20, a riboswitch, appears to possess a trans-regulatory sRNA role in antibiotic tolerance. These findings imply that the sRNA mediated response is a component of the bacterial response to antibiotic challenge.
A Topological Reconstruction Theorem for $D^{\infty}$-Modules
F. Prosmans,J. -P. Schneiders
Mathematics , 1999,
Abstract: In this paper, we prove that any perfect complex of $D^{\infty}$-modules may be reconstructed from its holomorphic solution complex provided that we keep track of the natural topology of this last complex. This is to be compared with the reconstruction theorem for regular holonomic $D$-modules which follows from the well-known Riemann-Hilbert correspondence. To obtain our result, we consider sheaves of holomorphic functions as sheaves with values in the category of ind-Banach spaces and study some of their homological properties. In particular, we prove that a K\"{u}nneth formula holds for them and we compute their Poincar\'{e}-Verdier duals. As a corollary, we obtain the form of the kernels of ``continuous'' cohomological correspondences between sheaves of holomorphic forms. This allows us to prove a kind of holomorphic Schwartz' kernel theorem and to show that $D^{\infty}=RHomtop(O,O)$. Our reconstruction theorem is a direct consequence of this last isomorphism. Note that the main problem is the vanishing of the topological Ext's and that this vanishing is a consequence of the acyclicity theorems for DFN spaces which are established in the paper.

Abstract: the essential oils of poiretia latifolia vogel, native and cultivated leaves (samples a and b, respectively) and native flowers (sample c), were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by gc, gc/ms and chiral phase gas chromatography (cpgc). twenty-four compounds were identified, representing 99.25, 99.26 and 99.23% of the oils, respectively. the major constituents of the oils were the monoterpenes (s)-(-)-limonene (16.05, 27.60, 15.60%, respectively), (1r, 4r)-trans-(+)-dihydrocarvone (18.05, 0.66 and 77.80%, respectively) and (r)-(-)-carvone (61.05, 64.20 and 4.50%, respectively). the essential oils were evaluated against some strains of gram (+) and gram (-) bacteria, and yeast, but displayed only modest antimicrobial activity.
Derived category of filtered objects
Pierre Schapira,Jean-Pierre Schneiders
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: For an abelian category C and a filtrant preordered set Lambda, we prove that the derived category of the quasi-abelian category of filtered objects in C indexed by Lambda is equivalent to the derived category of the abelian category of functors from Lambda to C. We apply this result to the study of the category of filtered modules over a filtered ring in a tensor category.
