Abstract: This article is a descriptive and quantitative case study about the financial management of Mendes, a small municipality with modest GDP in the Rio de Janeiro state. It identifies strategies applied by City Hall to achieve satisfactory results in the fiscal, social and managerial areas. Records from 2005 to 2007 were used to obtain information on the municipal situation regarding fiscal and social responsibilities. Data were analyzed by using the Kohama quotients, quotients of the financial situation, of the permanent situation and of the assets; the horizontal and vertical analysis and the model proposed by Fleuriet, Kehdy and Blanc (1978). Analysis shows that Mendes has achieved good results according to the Fiscal and Social Responsibility Index and that changes in the financial structure and balance sheets have been positive.

Com , 2009,
Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus is a universal disease with involvement in the growing world population, and cause of many complications that entail loss in quality of life and ability laborativa of people. The objective of this work was to raise social welfare data (management of Vitória da Conquista-BA), on the impact of customers and their diabetic complications in the generation of benefits and assistance in the period from 2003 to August 2007. Survey was conducted in the database management of the INSS Vitória da Conquista, Bahia. Data were collected from the Single Information System program of Benefits (SUIBE), available from internal computer network (Intranet). Aiming to restrict the cases to only those that would have been consedido benefit as a result of diabetes and its complications or, the search was given, as the International Classification of Diseases, tenth version (ICD-10), the Pan American Health Organization and World Organization Health (WHO). The results showed that the universe of searchable 50798 concerning the management of Vitoria da Conquista, only 334 were found benefits related to diabetes and its complications. In all the benefits studied a marked impact, regardless of sex, with varying degrees of disability generators of various types of benefits with age 40,07-56,00 years. It can be concluded with the attainment of this that the low incidence (0,65%) of benefits arising from diabetes and its complications, it is probably due to underreporting
The safety of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (anakinra) in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis
L. Riente
Reumatismo , 2011, DOI: 10.4081/reumatismo.2004.1s.74
Abstract: The safety profile of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (anakinra) has been studied with randomised, placebo-controlled trials involving 2932 patients affected by rheumatoid arthritis. The most frequently reported adverse events were represented by injection site reactions (71%) and headache (13.6%). No statistically significant difference in the incidence of infections was observed among the patients treated with the interleukin-1 receptor antagonist and the patients receiving placebo. In particular, the incidence of serious infections was 1,8% in rheumatoid arthritis patients on anakinra therapy and 0,7% in patients on placebo. The reported serious infections consisted of pneumonia, cellulitis, bone and joint infections, bursitis. No case of opportunistic infections or tubercolosis was observed. The results of clinical studies suggest that anakinra is a new well-tolerated drug for the treatment of patients affected by rheumatoid arthritis.
Use of plant resources in a seasonal dry forest (Northeastern Brazil)
Albuquerque, Ulysses Paulino de;Andrade, Laise de Holanda Cavalcanti;Silva, Ana Carolina Oliveira de;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33062005000100004
Abstract: to study the use of plant resources by a rural community in a seasonal dry forest, plots were established in a disturbed area and in a relatively preserved area. the study was carried out in caatinga vegetation located at the municipality of alagoinha (08o27'59" s and 36o46'33" w), state of pernambuco, northeastern brazil. the results show a pattern of medicinal resources offering similar to that found in other tropical forests, in which the disturbed areas or those of secondary vegetation are a major source of medicinal plants. nevertheless, a new pattern was evidenced as it was found that disturbed areas are not preferred by local people, and that it may be related to temporal availability of resources (adaptation to the characteristic seasonality of the vegetation type) and to the permanence of cultural values and basic knowledge on plants of the natural vegetation, which are of major importance for the community.

Journal of Applied Oral Science , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-77572010000200002
Abstract: introduction: open access publishing is becoming increasingly popular within the biomedical sciences. scielo, the scientific electronic library online, is a digital library covering a selected collection of brazilian scientific journals many of which provide open access to full-text articles.this library includes a number of dental journals some of which may include reports of clinical trials in english, portuguese and/or spanish. thus, scielo could play an important role as a source of evidence for dental healthcare interventions especially if it yields a sizeable number of high quality reports. objective: the aim of this study was to identify reports of clinical trials by handsearching of dental journals that are accessible through scielo, and to assess the overall quality of these reports. material and methods: electronic versions of six brazilian dental journals indexed in scielo were handsearched at www.scielo.br in september 2008. reports of clinical trials were identified and classified as controlled clinical trials (ccts - prospective, experimental studies comparing 2 or more healthcare interventions in human beings) or randomized controlled trials (rcts - a random allocation method is clearly reported), according to cochrane eligibility criteria. criteria to assess methodological quality included: method of randomization, concealment of treatment allocation, blinded outcome assessment, handling of withdrawals and losses and whether an intention-to-treat analysis had been carried out. results: the search retrieved 33 ccts and 43 rcts. a majority of the reports provided no description of either the method of randomization (75.3%) or concealment of the allocation sequence (84.2%). participants and outcome assessors were reported as blinded in only 31.2% of the reports. withdrawals and losses were only clearly described in 6.5% of the reports and none mentioned an intention-to-treat analysis or any similar procedure. conclusions: the results of this study indic

Chaves, Carolina de Andrade Lima;Regis, R?mulo Rocha;Machado, Ana Lucia;Souza, Raphael Freitas de;
Brazilian Dental Journal , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-64402009000200007
Abstract: this study evaluated the effect of denture base polymer type (heat- and microwave-polymerized), ridge lap surface treatment (with and without methyl methacrylate-mma etching) and thermocycling on the microtensile bond strength (μtbs) of biotone acrylic teeth. flat-ground, ridge-lap surface of posterior artificial teeth were bonded to cylinders of each denture base resin, resulting in the following groups (n=6): g1a - clássico/with mma etching; g1b - clássico/without mma etching; g2a - ondacryl/with mma etching; g2b - ondacryl/without mma etching. rectangular bar specimens with a cross-sectional area of 1 mm2 were prepared. half of the bars in each group were thermocycled (5,000 cycles between 4oc and 60oc). μtbs testing was performed in an universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. data were analyzed statistically by three-way anova (α=0.05). there was no statisticaly significant difference (p>0.05) for the factors (resin, surface treatment,and thermocycling) or their interactions. the mean μtbs values (mpa) and standard deviations were as follows: thermocycling - g1a: 41.00 (14.00); g1b: 31.00 (17.00); g2a: 50.00 (27.00); g2b: 40.00 (18.00); no thermocycling - g1a: 37.00 (14.00); g1b: 43.00 (25.00); g2a: 43.00 (14.00); g2b: 40.00 (27.00). the μtbs of biotone artificial teeth to the denture base acrylic resins was not influenced by the polymer type, surface treatment or thermocycling.
